not sure if i remember correctly, but it seems like Leak considered NCSU until Stone committed, and then dropped us. Not saying Leak would have came here at all, but thanks to Stone for scaring off Leak.

that was the year we had like a top 15 class in the country...

Class of 2003

Shane Lucas - injuries?
Jamesley Jean - left team recently?
Maurice Charles - ?
LeRue Rumph - starting LB
Miguel Scott - starter
Guerlin Dervil - got class with him so i guess he is still here, but what's he doin?
Brian Dennison - damn, would have been a stud... never made it to raleigh
Jimmy Sutton - starter, originally committed to texas
Phillip Holloman - will be a starter
James Martin - starter
Martrel Brown - starter
Reggie Davis - hell of a team player, burned his redshirt late his freshman year if i remember correctly. would be nice to have him around one more year under TOB as a possible FB.
Derek Morris -
Lamart Barrett - starter
Garland Heath - starter
Demarcus Tyler - starter
Mario Williams - one of the best ever in red/white
Darrell Blackman - damn good, hopefully he'll have a huge year under TOB
Raymond Brooks - shoulda coulda woulda, left team?
Stephen Tulloch - starter/NFL
Luke Lathan - starter
Kennie Covington - don't think he never made it to Raleigh
Chad Green - shoulda coulda woulda, never made it to raleigh
Marcus Stone - one of the top QB recruits in the country, eventually unseated by a former walk-on
Ernest Jones - starter
Chris Hawkins - transferred to james madison?
Kalani Heppe - starter
Yomi Ojo - dont think he starts?

All in all, one hell of a class. Especially if Brooks, Stone, Morris, Covington, Dennison and Chad Green would have panned out. I believe this is the same year Tramain committed to us but he went JUCO for a year before officially signing.

do you just say that b/c he went #1 in the draft? it's a bit of a stretch if you only look at what he did in college, and in what games he did those things.

Spring of their Junior year, Amato told Stone and Leak whichever committed first, he would stop recruiting the other one. Stone committed within a week. Marcus Stone was also the starting QB for Pennsylvania in the Pennsylvania-Ohio HS All Star game. He didn't do too well IIRC, but many people blamed it on protection.

I know it's hard to believe, but Daniel Evans was recruited by us as a scholarship player. He's been so from day one. His brother though is a walk-on.

for anyone interested in a nice recruiting debate, go check out the Scout database for NC State and UNC commits, then check out the Rivals.com database for the two. Then look at the overall rankings for both classes.

Not trying to support any conspiracy but...

UNC has 8 commitments rated 4 stars on Scout.com
The same class has 2 4 star and one 5 star player at Rivals. (3 total)

NC State has 1 4 star player and a bunch of 2 stars at scout.
At rivals we have 2 4 stars, one of them is Holmes, who is a 2 star at Scout.com. Also, Rivals has one of UNC's 4 star players from Scout.com rated at 2 stars.

Then, there are 5 more players committed to state that Scout.com has rated 1 or 2 stars who are all 3 stars at Rivals.

and the overall rankings has UNC at 42 and NC State at 52 at Rivals
Scout has UNC 8 spots higher at 34, and NC State 8 spots lower at 60.

I dont know what you think, but thats a big fucking difference for one recruiting class. Star differences happen all the time for one or two players per class, not 6 to 8 though.

should have a blitzkrieg play for him......

packpride has the story on the german now

Markus Kuhn checks in at 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, and he has been timed at 4.79 in the 40-yard dash. Because of his quickness and athleticism, his club team, the Weinheim Longhorns, used him mainly as an outside linebacker, but he projects as a defensive lineman on the next level.
He will enroll as a true freshman and will have five years to play four seasons.

1/30/2007: Kuhn has committed to NC State.

great insider article on him

Antoine Holmes was recently updated to 4stars. Steven Howard, Markus Kuhn and Dominique Ellis are all right on the borderline of being 4stars.

Stars dont mean shit,

^^^^^^I dont care much about rankings in football. they are not very accurate a lot of the time unlike basketball ones. i feel we have a very solid class coming in this year, and i feel that O'Brien is going to open up other pipelines that we have not seen before. should be an interesting next couple of years.

Rivals has Holmes as a 4-star and they just re-evaluated JUCO players so it's more up-to-date.

re: brooks
don't know when he left but it was noted that he wasn't on the updated spring roster.

i met ced hickman at a party on brent road when he was on his recruiting visit. pretty cool guy. all those recruits are pretty cool to talk to if you take the time when you see them at a party or football/basketball game. i met jay smith and justin byers at halftime of the duke game... smith did all the talkin and seemed pretty excited about joinin the pack.

From what it sounds like, he's been committed to the h0les for a while now, and he was planning to show us up on signing day. Apparently TOB and staff were very respectful and gave him every opportunity to come to NC State until last night, when they asked for an answer, and he still refused to give one...so they took his scholarship away.

I dont blame them. His coach is a known UNC homer and has been pusing UNC to this kid for a while. I'm just glad its not going to make a scene on signing day, and good for TOB for sniffing this out and pulling his scholarship. We have a few guys coming in for visits this weekend I think, one a 3 star linebacker from GA who was all state.

Euwell might have grade issues too.

Word is he was trying to get his teammate (help me with the name?) a scholly to State.

Basically 'Package deal'ing us so on signing day his buddy signs LOI to State....they wait for Euwell, only his is heading to UNC and he got his teammate a scholly.

Oh well

^hargrave bound, they just supposidly wanted the NCSU offer for battle

regardless, seems like UNC changed his mind a few weeks ago, and we have been getting the run around

I liked how chuck always had an open door policy with commits and let them take all their visits and enjoy the process, but there is something to be said for TOB's no nonsence style with commits, seems like we will end up with a lot more kids that want to be part of NCSU, and less florida mercenaries, could be good or bad in the long run....only time will tell

Yeah, I don't think this was 'no nonsense'. If we thought the kid was really torn, we'd wait it out until signing day. We knew we didn't have a shot and he was all wrapped up for UNC. We gave him a final chance to come to NC State...he said he 'still wasn't sure', so we said we're going to offer someone else your place.

No need to end up empty on signing day...especially when you're 100% sure you're going to and he's not a super-duper-spectacular player
