ak. I meant my 1st to be 35, not 45.But anyways, here's the actual specs for my transmission:1st: 10:36 (3.600)2nd: 16:34 (2.1250)3rd: 24:35 (1.4583)4th: 28:30 (1.0714)5th: 35:29 (0.8286) Rev:12:42 (3.500)FDR: 9:35 (3.8889)A turbo tranny would be MUCH more suitable because:1st: (3.500)2nd: (2.059)3rd: (1.400)4th: (1.034)5th: (0.829) FDR: (3.375)I would modify the 5th gear though and swap it with a 0.730 ratio from a n/a transmission. It makes for a VERY nice overdrive (70mph at ~2,200 rpm) and a ~190mph at 6k rpm.
8/18/2009 1:13:59 PM
You will be swapping transmissions due to failure any day now. Plan accordingly!

My car is on the Market, as I want a GT3, but I was referring to it's seats (which he's not really interested in buying anyway).

i drive the same concept of car except mine is even heavier.that is how i know and why i can say it, lol.

I did something last night I know I'm not supposed to do.I drifted the 944. T'was fun. Also raced a 335i coupe. Well not really "race", but I was egging him on to see if he would do something. He floored it trying to get away from me at one point. He got a small jump but then we were dead even for a couple seconds. I think I pissed him off
8/31/2009 12:15:09 PM
So... this labor day weekend, I did a lot of work to the car. I missed out on two days of beautiful bike riding and my wrist hurts. But it was fun and I'm VERY happy with the results...First we started with this. A dirty ol' 944 with worn clear coat:As night fell, I moved from polishing a "turd" to working on my friend's Subaru. Yay for having a garage And finally, after some detailing the next day (today), here's what I ended up with:Not bad AT ALL for 24 year old paint, IMO. Hard to believe this is that same car. I am pleased with the work. [Edited on September 7, 2009 at 4:58 PM. Reason : .]

9/7/2009 5:01:18 PM
Some dude named Pat. Very nice fella... Thanks for letting me use it man. Seriously, it definitely made a huge difference in how the paint looked. I appreciate it
9/7/2009 6:07:03 PM
Wish I hadn't gone mountain biking saturday;Huge improvement in the paint though, so maybe you can now sell it and get a Cayman S?
9/7/2009 6:56:09 PM
I will not buy a car that is that expensive, that performance oriented and yet is not even offered with the OPTION of a fucking LSD. That is disgusting of Porsche IMO. You can find 100hp Miatas with factory LSDs, come the fuck on. So, apparently you're limited to a 2009 with PDK if you want an LSD equipped Cayman S, which means you're not getting one anytime soon if you have any brains (Or you're gonna spend a good chunk of money, time or both to get yours fitted with one). ]
9/7/2009 7:05:00 PM
I mean, I know you haven't driven one, but even then it's a bit silly to say that it not coming with an LSD is a deal breaker. You can put one in if you really wanted, though consider the fact that they don't need one, unlike an over powered fwd crapbox.
9/7/2009 8:10:59 PM
Fuck you Porsche.
9/7/2009 8:53:13 PM
that lil scrape on ur leg aint worth takin a picture over.
9/7/2009 9:01:25 PM
Hah... Thanks Ahmet. I don't know... I think I would love a Cayman S. Specially the new ones with the 3.4L Direct Injected engine Despite my love for the 944, I would trade it in for a Cayman S And btw, that scrape isn't THAT bad, although I know it hurts like hell I still have scars and some scabs left over from when my leg decided to introduce itself to a chainring, about 6 weeks ago . 8 teeth marks, 4 of them to the muscle. I hate needles, so I opted out of stitches Speakers/wires/headunit are all officially pulled out now. Thanks to gk2004, I can now start removing the carpeting and the rest of the sound deadening material...[Edited on September 8, 2009 at 8:35 AM. Reason : .]

The previous owner had done a poor job wiring the speakers. I removed over a hundred feet of excess/unused wires that were just in the way. It was annoying how clusterfucked all the wires under the dash were.Well... I see your point, but this car is becoming more about function. The thing is, this isn't my DD, and I'm more than comfortable driving it the way it is. Newer seats would be nice though. I don't mind the "go-cart" feel, but that's just me. I've got 2 other cars with comfort features.Eventually I'll put a nice HU and probably "upgrade" from the 4x6 to 6x8 or something. Music would be nice, especially on longer trips to the track or whatnot. We'll see. The car needs to be cleaned up on the inside first, starting with the removal of the sun-bleached carpeting in the hatch.[Edited on September 8, 2009 at 10:19 AM. Here's an idea. Put a 951 tranny in that thing already, so that you can actually start driving that car the way it's meant to be!
9/8/2009 10:27:55 AM
I do try to source one for a good deal from time to time. But doing what I'm doing only costs time, not money
9/8/2009 10:40:32 AM
Buying a 300hp car that costs that much and yet has no LSD is for losers son. It's just how it is son. And yes, you dumb fucker, of course you can install an LSD after purchasing the car (What university explained that concept to you son?).
9/8/2009 12:42:01 PM
I bet you know better than the highly paid engineers at Porsche?Idiot
9/8/2009 1:17:17 PM
Top Gear alluded to the possibility that Porsche intentionally didn't offer a LSD simply because it would make it too competitive and cannibalize some of the 911 sales. I tend to think this is probably correct. If that is in fact true then it is pretty sad that Porsche would intentionally retard one car for the sake of another in it's own lineup. If I were one of those highly paid engineers who designed a hell of a car and they intentionally stifled my design I'd be pretty pissed right about now.
9/8/2009 2:35:03 PM
Well, despite what the talkshow hosts on Top Gear may have alluded to, having driven and instructed in them, I am not of the opinion that an LSD is necessary in a Cayman, I feel the same way about the 911 -->which also did not come with an LSD standard for quite some time. It's somecustomers (perhaps those like Mr. Saab) who demand an LSD, hence it's become available in some cars that did not come with them originally. Other than 911/Cayman, I can think of Lotuses, the Noble M12 and others that originally didn't/don't have LSDs, in many "sporting" vehicles. Remember, LSDs add weight, and cause understeer on corner exit. Seldom does a mid or rear engined car actually require an LSD to put it's power down. Again, the car in question is not an over powered FWD car, or even one with 50/50 weight distribution. The Cayman S is one impressive car, if you're looking for a numbers vs. price thing, you wouldn't consider a Cayman, or really any other European car, the Corvette trumps them all. Subjectively though, it just doesn't feel all that satisfying to drive...
9/8/2009 3:06:33 PM
I mean, they could always offer it and make it a $8500 option. Isn't that what they normally do anyway?
9/8/2009 3:16:50 PM

God I love making people talk unnecessarily son.^ Naw, you don't need an LSD son. Porsche anticipated that you'd put an LT1 in there and they've already compensated son. No slip limiting required son. I think it's just that ya can't drive son. ]

So... Something weird is going on that maybe someone can help me with. I had removed everything and decided "aww fuck it..." After stripping out half of the insulation, about 10lbs of unneeded wiring (mostly excess stereo wires), I reinstalled the carpet and the passenger seat. all in all, I think I got rid of about 30lbs of stuff. I recon I have another 20lbs to go. Caution [WORDS] Below:Here's where it gets interesting (sorta). So I ran wires to each of the 4x6 alpine speakers just fine. I realize I then needed 4 wires for the head unit. 1 ignition/accessory, 1 ground, 1 power, 1 "booster" power for the radio antenna. The head unit wires, which I cut out thinking I wasn't going to use a stereo (silly me, I know ), were already marked. Hell, I even have the manual that labels them too. I looked in the porsche manual for the wiring schematics, connect everything, and bam, done. Or so I thought. At first, everything worked perfectly fine like it should. The only issue is the radio was not holding the presets and custom EQ I set. I multimeter the "Battery" Power wire and got a dead wire. Strange. But I figure I must have accidentally cut it somewhere while stripping out unnecessary wires. So I run another wire directly from the battery to the HU harness. When I plug the harness into the HU, the HU immediately comes on... I look and notice my key isn't in the ignition. I really had a moment. It's not a big deal because my presets now save and everything else works fine. I'm kinda wondering wtf is going on here? I didn't get the wires switched up... All the multimeter readings are exactly what they are supposed to be... I'm confused. But I guess as long as I make sure the HU is off when I leave the car, all will be well. 9/13/2009 10:23:25 PM
Sounds like you had the battery power and the keyed ignition power switched. Now that you ran a new battery line you effectively have two "battery" wires going into your stereo. Check both of the original wires with your multimeter and see if they were hooked up backwards originally.[Edited on September 14, 2009 at 12:38 AM. Reason : l]

speaking of cayman/boxster w/o a LSD, I think the boxster I drove on wednesday was one of the most stable cars I've ever driven. It certainly felt a lot less twitchy than a lotus elise. It didn't really understeer so much as it just was really really far from getting out of shape. I wasn't pushing it super hard, but I can't imagine feeling like I'd need an LSD in that car, ever. When I drove a cayman a few months ago, it felt the same way. Granted, both the (2002) boxster and the (2006) cayman had the 2.7L H6 (220, 250 hp) and not the 3.2L (250 hp) or 3.4L (300 hp) of the same-year "S" models.
9/14/2009 3:33:01 AM
^I got to drive a carrera last week and had the same basic impression. my car is definitely a lot more twitchy/nimble depending on how you want to look at it.Putting the carrera into a j-turn was almost anticlimactic. Just too damn smooth, hardly any road feel, very little steering feedback. It really did feel like a video game. On the plus side, LOVED the gearbox and clutch (now I realize why so many Lotus owners buy stiffening kits for the shifter).
9/14/2009 8:25:49 AM
^^^ You know what? I had two pioneer harnesses in a box. I compared to the two and they had the exact same color wires, although I believe they were originally for two different model (I assumed it was a universal harness for all Pioneer HUs). I'm willing to bet that the two harnesses have the 12v Acc. and the Bat. reversed. Thought of it when I went to bed last night. So I'll be checking on that possibly tonight and I'll report back. ^^Yeah, when I test drove the Cayman, I too did not have issues which would demand an LSD.^ I thought the Elise shifter to be a little "clunky" for my taste.[Edited on September 14, 2009 at 8:28 AM. FUCKING A. I finally got around to working on the stereo. Figured it out. Both the 12v Acc and 12v constant were directly hardwired into the battery... The original wire I had which I thought was a dead 12v constant was the 12v Acc. WTF! I'm guessing somehow I didn't have a good connection (ground) when I was trying to measure the 12v constant wire and coincidentally read the result as a 12v Acc instead. :facepalm:Oh and somehow, the wiring diagram in my Haynes Manual is backwards too. I verified this. FUCK YOU WORLD. GOD I can't wait to get this shit fixed finally... DAMN YOU ALL.[Edited on October 13, 2009 at 8:42 PM. Reason : [/rant]]

10/13/2009 9:11:34 PM
Because... I do like to listen to CDs from time to time. Shit son, it's only 5lbs, if that. (4) 4"x6" and a head unit. Also, I happened to grab the WRONG Green wire. Yes, I have two (2) Identical green wires. One is dead (the one I measured before), and the other is a working 12v acc. Not that anyone cares.
