when an exam is open boook/open notes i'm pretty sure that using someone else's notes in conjunction with your own is not cheatingand when you have a teacher that cares more about what he's having for lunch than his class's final exam, i don't think he's really gonna care if we are using someone else's notes anywaythanks for playing though
12/5/2005 12:08:32 PM
jpboemer@ncsu.edu, anyone wanna send the cheat sheet last second i would appreciate it.
12/5/2005 12:10:23 PM
its just notes, people got together in a group and made up a study guide.
12/5/2005 12:11:01 PM
now you gotta be fair, that exam wasnt bad at all.... given that you got to use the book/notes and there was like 10 points of extra credit...
12/5/2005 3:11:46 PM
it was alright. i had to think about some things though and where to find them. atleast i hope i get like 4/5 on all the do it yourself shit even i get wrong answer. A for effort.
12/5/2005 3:54:50 PM
it wasnt thaaaat bad but i had trouble on the multiple regression plroblem because i had not read that stuff yet but overall better
12/5/2005 3:55:28 PM
The exam wasn't horrendous, but I hate the fact that he asks questions differently than every other time he has asked them. I wish he would stick to one format.
12/5/2005 4:06:10 PM
its ok. had trouble on a couple but overall i thought it was fine.
12/5/2005 4:20:34 PM
It was decent...I wish I felt more confident.I didn't know what to put for that multiple choice about what is the null hypothesis for or whatever...and the whole multiple regression problem (a, b, and e) was tough...I just wrote some garbage in for it. I really hope that Soda question was 66%it was ahight, but I know I didn't ace it by any means
12/5/2005 4:33:27 PM
I don't know, that was tough and it took me almost the full 3 hours. I hope they are generous with partial credit [Edited on December 5, 2005 at 5:00 PM. Reason : spelling]
12/5/2005 4:41:08 PM
^ amen on the partial credittook me 3.5 hours
12/5/2005 5:01:31 PM
im just mad because none of the bookstores are buying this book back yet and aren't sure if they will be. This is the ONE book i want to get rid of! Ahhhhhh
12/5/2005 5:02:38 PM
i got 53 for the book i took it by University towers to the lady who sits in the loby and she gave me 53 dollars
12/5/2005 5:10:20 PM
You got 53 $ from UT ?? Wow, didnt know they did book buy-back at UT. Do you know who the lady was? As in, was it something she personally wanted, or will more of us be able to take advantage of her generosity?
12/6/2005 2:57:25 AM
Wow ... I was done in about 45 minutes ...
12/6/2005 8:36:16 AM
a lady from the hillsboro bookstore has a stand she sets up and she takes the books there, but im sure if you take it by the store they will give you the same amount of money
12/6/2005 11:20:42 AM
so someone make a post once he posts the exam grades/final grades.
12/6/2005 12:00:31 PM
FINAL EXAM GRADES ARE POSTEDLet's just say I'm overly thrilled with my final exam score [Edited on December 7, 2005 at 12:15 PM. Reason : .]
12/7/2005 12:15:43 PM
average was a 70% with 80 people getting As and 30 people not taking it
12/7/2005 12:48:45 PM
90. i am very happy indeed
12/7/2005 12:52:37 PM
Wow, so an 85 is an A for the final grade right? Did he mention pluses/minuses?Can't believe this class is finally freaking over
12/7/2005 2:06:43 PM
so are final grades posted as well? i guess i could figure it out without a curve.so i got a 101.5 on the final. my grade without a curve is 90.66. hope theres a curve on final grades, i need an A.[Edited on December 7, 2005 at 2:30 PM. Reason : yea]
12/7/2005 2:22:50 PM
^ As far as I can tell, there's no final grades posted.
12/7/2005 2:24:04 PM
i hope he still adds that 5 points on the end of our grade that would be money
12/7/2005 2:55:39 PM
southpaw, again, big thanks for all your help this semester... couldn't have pulled my ass out of that class without you
12/7/2005 3:41:00 PM
No problem at all...glad to see people escaping that class w/ at least a decent grade
12/7/2005 3:52:56 PM
So has anyone else tried hilsborough st. textbooks to sell this shit back? I went by addam's today and they said they would give me $10....I was hoping to get more than that and just curious if you guys had better luck elsewhere.
12/7/2005 4:25:34 PM
I got 53 at Hillsborough on Monday
12/7/2005 4:40:51 PM
Ive got a 92.46 for my final grade without any curve. I talked to Dr Reich and he said the cutoff for an A would probably be 90, but the cutoff for an A+ is still 97. He wants there to be a solid grade distribution, but with a 5 point curve I have an A+ in there. I think its wrong that hes curving the cutoff for a C by 5 points but hes not curving the cutoff for every grade the same number of points. Anyone else who thinks this is crap should probably call him and talk to him, I tried to talk sense into him but hes all about ohhhh there should be 70 C's and 50 B's and 20 A's and only 5 A+'s and blah blah (I just made those numbers up, but thats how hes gonna have the grades end up).
12/7/2005 5:21:44 PM
If i didnt explain that last post well enough, what I meant was this;Cutoff for a C is curved 5 points (68)Cutoff for a B is curved 4 points (79)Cutoff for an A is curved 3 points (90)Those numbers arent exact but thats what he told me on the phone today. So you can pretty much go by those numbers, give or take a point.
12/7/2005 5:25:10 PM
isn't a 90 already an A? or an A-? So he didn't really curve that at all?
12/7/2005 5:30:28 PM
So since you've got a ~92 uncurved, you're saying he's only gonna curve those who have a raw score about a 90 three points, to get you a 95?Basically I'm asking that if our raw average is 90+, we only get 3 curve points? How sure are you of this?
12/7/2005 5:43:43 PM
Southpaw, this is andrew. I called Dr Reich and asked him about it. You can call him if you want him to explain it in detail but basically its gonna be like this97-100 is A+90-97 is A79 and up is a B68 and up is a CThats all he explained to me. I didnt ask him how he would do the B+'s and B-'s and all the other + and - grades. Bullshit, i know dude. everyone deserves the same curve...
12/7/2005 6:56:03 PM
You can check your final grade now if you go to how you normally check your grades then click see past semester grades and then type in fall 2005 and your STAT grade should come up
12/7/2005 7:31:00 PM
cool...hmm i'll be happy with what i have but i still think it should be even higher. oh well
12/7/2005 7:32:53 PM
nevermind, found it. its just not up on the grades thing. i got what youre saying. thanks![Edited on December 7, 2005 at 7:46 PM. Reason : yea]
12/7/2005 7:42:50 PM
I'm pissed. My final average (based on RAW SCORES) was a 95.36Also take in mind that I ended up doing ALL the WebAssigns and getting a 100% on them even though I didn't have to. I got an "A". I'm sure I'll get those who are like "PSHHH be happy with an A you douche", and that's fine. But I need every A+ I can get just like all of us do. There's no way in hell it's fair to give OVER FIVE CURVE POINTS to those in danger of "failing" the course (getting below a C) and not give 1.64 curve points to push someone that worked their ass off to do well in this horrifically instructed class to an A+.I emailed him and asked him why the hell his curving was partial to those who were on the border of failing
12/7/2005 8:07:29 PM
SouthPaw, I owe you BIG for helping me pass this class! I'm happy with my C+
12/7/2005 8:31:58 PM
well I just realized WebAssign actually tells you a test average that's HIGHER than your actual average. My REAL test average (found by adding all 4 up and dividing by 4) was ~90%So in that case, I'd be in A- range and I got an A, so that's okay.
12/7/2005 8:57:40 PM
Please tell me at least the man will make my 79.85 a B ( at the very least a B-) I cant have any C's this semester, Finance is going to cover that spot.
12/7/2005 10:57:15 PM
Hey are yall talking "raw" scores as in before the curves on test #1 and 2, or after? It makes a difference - and that could well be his justification.NOT that I think it's right, I'm just sayin, cover all the bases.edit: I just added my scores up in a spreadsheet and my before-final-curve average is 88.1%, mainly because of labs. Wasn't he going to drop two labs, too? If so, that takes me up to 88.8% because I missed 3/13. With a 3 point curve, either way I get 91-92 which falls under A-. With the 4-point curve that people with scores 5 points less are getting, I'd have a solid A. Same with the 5-pt C curve. That frickin sucks. I hate +/- grading. It's next to impossible to get an A+ and it doesn't really matter too much because the people who'd be getting them get A's anyway, and GPA caps out at 4.0. Arggghhhh. All it does is hurt the rest of us that are working for our grades AND have lives outside of class.Anyone know who to talk to here? Curves are technically optional so if we piss off the wrong people it hurts everyone.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 5:44 AM. Reason : ^]
12/8/2005 5:27:45 AM
By "raw scores" I meant the scores that showed up in the "Grades" section of WebAssign. If he did any curving before he entered them into WebAssign, I wouldn't know. I'd email him directly...he seemed pretty nice to me even though my email was (wrongfully) stern. And I actually don't recall him saying he'd drop labs, only WebAssigns, but of course I could be wrong.
12/8/2005 9:21:43 AM
Does anyone know how he averaged gades, I mean he said in class that a C would be a 65 right? Well what is a C-? And didn't he say he was going to drop the 2 lowest webassigns? I don't know how he calculated my grade, but I don't think he dropped the two lowest webassigns. Yesterday was the BEST day when I got to sell my book back. I got $53 for it at UT. I went to the University bookstore and they wouldn't buy it back because they said the professors need a new software... So go to UT to sell it.
12/8/2005 9:33:32 AM
103, A Ill take it, considering i didnt study.now i want money for that book[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 11:17 AM. Reason : a]
12/8/2005 11:16:45 AM
he drops the two lowest webassigns. I believe he doesnt drop any labs though. All i know about the grades, is that the cutoff for an A is 90 and the cutoff for an A+ is 97. 513-7686 is his office number. Hes a pretty nice guy so you can call him anytime. also if you check you semester grades through tracs, and it doesnt show your grade in bus 350, then just click on past semester, and put in fall 2005, and your grade will show up. Praise Jesus that this class is over with
12/8/2005 11:21:46 AM
and big shoutout to SouthPaw for making all those webassigns easy for us all. We appreciate it
12/8/2005 11:24:03 AM
FYI... Aadam's Bookstore will give you $56 for that piece of shit book
12/8/2005 12:07:42 PM
n/p, glad I could help ^ Good tip on Addam's! I also heard UT is giving $53I sold mine on Amazon for like $55 or so[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 12:09 PM. Reason : .]
12/8/2005 12:09:31 PM
^Thanks for all your help Southpaw. Im not complaining about my grade. I passed and thats all I was hoping for with this idiot teaching this class. Webassign and labs reallly helped me through and I couldnt have done it without southpaw. He alone was a curve for this class. Webassign grades would have been just as shitty as exams without all the help. I wrote up I nice evaluation for Mr. Reich.
12/8/2005 3:43:14 PM
Fucking rediculous ... why do the people with the shittier grades get the better curve? Isn't there someone we can bring this to? It makes a difference on whether I get an A- or an A ... and I don't see why my GPA should suffer just because he decides the people that DIDN'T do a shit job deserve a lesser reward.
