"After watching this play over and over, I don't see how this hit was illegal. Yes he had given his body up and was going out of bounds, but he was CLEARLY still in bounds. I would have loved for a flag to have been thrown, but there was no penalty. Marquise should have never let up, which is why the hit was possible. The Switzer hit was illegal as well, but all their player did was stick his arm out. Hell, if he wanted to hurt Switzer why not actually collide with him?"

That's the most rational thing I've seen written by a UNC fan since Saturday

Quote :
"I digress...State has more in-state players (supposedly lesser players per scouting services)thus the UNC game matters more to them, it's that simple.
The Duke game is a rivalry to the out of state player for a couple reasons...one it's well known nationally in hoops and two these guys see each other weekly out socially due to the close proximity...compete for the ladies, etc.
State on the other hand is not close enough for any interaction off the field and players from afar have no idea of the history of hate in this rivalry and rivalry is hard to teach...see ECU here as well."

wait...people are seriously arguing that the hit on Williams should've been a late hit? He was a full yard (or more) inbounds. It's his fault for slowing up or giving up on the play...but he was still a live ball carrier.

And for that second post ^, when it comes to getting up for a rivalry game I think that's like 99% on the coaches. Most players, even those from in-state, don't live and breath fandom and a rivalry like fans do. So I don't buy any notion that says out of state players don't realize State is such a rival to UNC. Because that's the coaches job. I think fans, a lot of times, way overestimate how much recruits know/care about rivalries and school history and stuff. Once they're on campus and it's part of the culture, that changes.

It's pretty clear that the UNC players feel NCSU is not a rival. I mean it's not like they went and stomped our logo last year when they beat us...

By my count UNC actually has more NC peeps on their roster. 65 vs 61. And their "team leader" is from Charlotte.

^Nonsense. UNC takes the best few players in the state, and the Pack signs all the scrubs. UNC fills out their roster with elite talent from around the country, and around the world.

And that was in the 3rd quarter....I'd still disagree with them, but had it been late in the 4th then at least it might halfway reasonable. But LOL at that in the 3rd quarter.

watching that replay several times, i have no idea why he started slowing down. Yep, he was a few feet inbounds and started slowing to a stop.... it was pretty stupid on his part.

^, UNC fans are notorious for having no idea X's and O's wise about football on their in game threads. Every fanbase has the group of morons who just negatively spout off about the opponent, but UNC fans always take that up a few notches having no knowledge of football scheme and game flow.

The play where Williams slows up is exactly what Hakim Jones was saying in that once Williams gets hit a few times, he seems to lose focus and make bad decisions. I don't necessarily think that Jones meant that Williams quits literally (although he did this game ironically enough) but that Williams starts making bad decisions. For a guy who had already been tagged around a bit, it seemed almost unthinkable to slow up in bounds with an opposing LBer closing in.

Watching DD give his short halftime remarks, I knew IC would eat up all that "control your emotions" shit that generic sideline reporter was harping on.

Muh gawd, he's telling his thugs to be thugs and it cost us our alabaster prince Sir Switzer.

Seriously, if I knew Switzer and Marquiche were both going to go down, I would have at least had some vaseline and klenex handy.

"Would they even be in a bowl game? I think not. They whipped us on Saturday, not doubt. But their body of work is unimpressive. I think it's a total joke they are going to one of the ACC's "Tier 1" bowls. Meanwhile, Carolina, with a pair of high quality wins (GT and Duke) and a better conference record than State is going to a Tier 2 bowl. I guess I'll tip my hat to Debbie Yow. Well played."

I guess if you are just talking about OOC I guess there's an argument. But coastal. Coastal.

W Liberty State Win
W San Diego (Lost to the Wolf Pack already) State Win
L! @East Carolina (Best loss of the season) Dancing L
L @Clemson (Samesies) Dancing L
L VT (Wake Forest with metallica) State Win
L @ND (Almost beating FSU > Almost beating ND) Dancing L but we wouldn't line up over the long snapper
W GT Dancing L (Seriously GT, how do you lose to Duke and UNC?)
W @UVa (TOB division game ftl) State Win
L @Miami (Could we handle that rocking Miami noon crowd?) Toss Up
W Pitt (Chuck figured out this offense) State Win

I see some are talking SAT scores now

I don't give a damn what their players SAT scores are, to be honest. This is a general statement.

How can anyone that isn't braindead score lower than 1000 on the SAT? I scored hire than that in fucking 7th grade.

Can you imagine the shit show over at IC if they lost the next game? Personally I'd rather nobody win that game because the "Arrrrgh, I got Crabs" Nation would be even more insufferable, but I imagine that kick in the gut in the Dean Dome would probably be my favorite possible loss of the season, second only to UNC losing to us. Not that it is going to happen, but one can dream.

This hyper-politically correct environment at the school is getting out of hand. We've got male students protesting bars that have "ladies nights". The coverage by the DTH was like something that you would read at the Onion.

And we've got an academic scandal which wasn't about athletics, but was about soft bigotry and political correctness - but no one will say it.

And now we've turned a basketball game into a way to "promote recycling".

What the hell is going on up there?

I'm not sure I would recommend that my kids go there.

I remember that game in cameron a few years back where the Crazies were wearing green shirts and we took like a 9 pt halftime lead....they took the shirts off and threw them on the court. Duke came back and beat us by double digits i think.

^^Different game. The one i'm thinking about is the one where Ced Simmons had a big game against Shelden Williams. I THINK thats the one. The 20 point lead was only what, 2-3 seasons ago? The one i'm thinking about was further back because I was still in school.

Also, no one has mentioned the hypocrisy in printing extra shirts just to wear one time to promote recycling.

Political correctness is kind of the point of a university though. These walmart fans think the primary prupose of chapel hill is winning basketball games.

That game was the definition of Death by a Thousand Cuts.

Howell fouling out, then CJL, almost our whole team really with ticky tacky fouls, while the Dookies handslapped their way back into the game. Tough to erase
