you had an opportunity to go to south africa and watch the world cup on someone else's dime, and you didn't take it?a free vacation, and you declined? to the world cup, no less? i mean, if you really wanted to get in to the sport, that's a sure fire way to convert yourself.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 12:58 PM. haha, i would have gone in a second if it weren't for my wife being unable to get the time off (she's a medical resident). If we didn't have a kid, I would have gone alone. I'm actually pretty damn pissed that I had to miss out on that. I only mentioned that as another reason that I should probably be all into it.
6/23/2010 12:59:42 PM
no nationalism isn't an excuse.i have absolutely zero nationalism, except when it comes to team sports.
6/23/2010 1:00:10 PM
Annnnnyway, let's go Germany.
6/23/2010 1:02:57 PM
im not offended at your post so much as the reason that you had to post. its almost like you made that post to invite criticism your way. when you felt your first post wasnt enough you made another showing your lack of excitement towards this. i dont believe i noticed you posting anywhere in this thread while the game was going on, so waiting til the most exciting point of the end to make a dreary statement is kinda puzzling to me
6/23/2010 1:02:59 PM
ok fine, i'm still mad i didn't get to go.
6/23/2010 1:04:14 PM
maaaan. i'm watching the game highlights. it's absolutely ridiculous how many opportunities we had that we couldn't put away. obviously we'll have to do better with our finishing next game if we plan to advance, but for now, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
6/23/2010 1:05:13 PM
yeah we shouldve won this game easily, but thats usa soccer for you. we love to make things hard on ourselves for no reasonand honestly if we were playing a good team we shouldve been down early yet again. that play that setup algeria hittin our crossbar shouldve been taken down then finished better.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 1:07 PM. 6/23/2010 1:06:18 PM
hey guys it's trendy to not like soccer and not only tell everyone else how you feel but to also explain why you ain't gotta apologize for making a point to tell them how much you don't care
6/23/2010 1:09:24 PM
I have a hell of a rug burn from knee sliding in shorts on the hotel lobby carpet after Donovan scored. It was worth it, though.
6/23/2010 1:09:49 PM
There should be some serious offers for Bradley after this World Cup[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 1:10 PM. Reason : Michael of course, not Bob]
6/23/2010 1:10:12 PM
^yeah, he's come a long way.i can't believe putting beasley in the game didn't bite us in the ass, though.....speaking of bob[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 1:12 PM. Reason : i mean, i guess he did get a yellow.]
6/23/2010 1:11:30 PM
gotta give some credit to Bornstein though, solid game with a lot of pressure and criticism directed his way
6/23/2010 1:13:56 PM
I nearly killed guitarguy's family's elderly dog during our celebrationI also Ovechkin'd into the wall
6/23/2010 1:15:41 PM
yeah bornstein did well. but i wasnt really worried about his side. they like to attack mostly down the left with belhadj and niani going down the left too. though they did shift out to the right more today than the other 2 games. maybe they scouted our left side. he was solid over there and he and cherundolo made some really good runs up the wings on attacking possessions
6/23/2010 1:18:54 PM
defensive credit is due, for sure.but algeria played very cowardly for the entire cup, and only took a few opportunities/risks. they needed a big win, and didn't even really take any risks. they seemed very content with a draw in a must win game, which is borderline shameful, and they went scoreless in the tourny. if their goal was to concede as few goals as possible, then why bother showing up.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 1:26 PM. 6/23/2010 1:22:06 PM
Yeah but their few opportunities were like that shot off the crossbar about 6 minutes in
6/23/2010 1:23:33 PM
what the fuck? ESPN3 doesnt work anymore
6/23/2010 1:23:37 PM
Why was Dempsey so off his game today compared to the first two games he played in?
6/23/2010 1:27:18 PM
Donovan had a pretty sweet Superman celebration to boot.
6/23/2010 1:27:19 PM
Atleast with our next game being on Saturday more USA fans will be able to watch the USA's game and not be distracted due to job commitments.
6/23/2010 1:28:26 PM
just got back to work a bit ago from the bar. Amazing. I don't think I have gotten that excited over a US goal in a long time. My voice is totally shot Can't believe we only scored 1 goal that game, but wow what a finish. Totally worth taking time off to go see that instead of watching a stream.USA!!
6/23/2010 1:28:47 PM
Just watched the last sequence again. WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PASS BY HOWARD on the goal.
6/23/2010 1:31:30 PM
6/23/2010 1:33:02 PM
any of you guys on TWC able to access ESPN3 anymore? it is asking for a sign-in as of today apparently...
6/23/2010 1:34:30 PM
dempsey seems to play better when hes pushed up top on this team...maybe we should just start him up top with altidore next game and bring in holden or feilhaber in the midfield with edu and bradley holding things centrally
6/23/2010 1:35:19 PM
wow, just finished watching it, best game of the cup
6/23/2010 1:40:30 PM
but US fans need to learn new songs besides "USA USA USA ........"
6/23/2010 1:42:29 PM
k
6/23/2010 1:45:06 PM
wheres hoops malone when you need him?
6/23/2010 1:45:29 PM
Wish I had thought about it and started to DVR it in the last 10 minutes just in case that happened so I could watch it again and again
6/23/2010 1:45:55 PM
^^haha nice
6/23/2010 1:51:17 PM
6/23/2010 1:54:17 PM
works fine for mebut try http://www.atdhe.net if you can't get it to load
6/23/2010 1:57:00 PM
its working for me. but i had to login like 3 times or something with that terps name for verizon.i just watched that chance in the first half where jozy blazed over from close. that was a really good bit of passing and movement by the usa. world class-esque. i wish we could do stuff like that more often during games
6/23/2010 1:57:34 PM
We probably have Serbia next, if we can get by them we get the least difficult quarterfinals matchup. South Korea/Uruguay. We can get hot and do some serious damage.
6/23/2010 1:57:58 PM
i dont like that matchup against uruguay with us...but i dont like looking ahead either. im pretty sure uruguay would beat us. we are not good at all against south american attacking teams.
6/23/2010 2:00:02 PM
i don't know why people are still sleeping on uruguay. other than that snooze fest against france, they (along with all south american teams) have looked pretty solid.
6/23/2010 2:01:30 PM
so whats the scenario looking like for us to get Ghana - or anyone except for Germany in the knockout stage?
6/23/2010 2:03:14 PM
true about Uruguay being good, but I don't think a matchup vs Argentina would be any better if we were in England's spot instead. Let's face it though: by the time you are in the quarters, there are no easy games left for anyone really.Either way, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Saturday will be awesome. I almost want to drive to Raleigh to go out with people but I'll probably just end up going out down here.
6/23/2010 2:03:28 PM
as long as we play as hard and inspired as we have for the last 135 minutes, i'll be happy, regardless of the result this weekend.
6/23/2010 2:05:37 PM
A german win would assure us not having to meet them in the next round. Anything other than that and there is a chance.
6/23/2010 2:06:34 PM
yeah, I'd just like to avoid Germany... I don't really care if we face Ghana/Serbiaplus, Germany/England would be a pretty tasty matchup
6/23/2010 2:11:10 PM
maybe we can actually play a decent game against ghana, unlike 4 years ago
6/23/2010 2:11:56 PM
6/23/2010 2:13:42 PM
Drogba vs US -- should be fun!
6/23/2010 2:14:50 PM
^?Ivory Coast is out
6/23/2010 2:16:24 PM
wut
6/23/2010 2:16:36 PM
Did we win?
6/23/2010 2:16:41 PM
Assuming Germany wins their group and Argentina wins their next game against Mexico, it looks like England will face their two biggest rivals back to back
6/23/2010 2:24:52 PM
