So the mic stopped working on my Incredible and Verizon shipped me a replacement phone. Before I send this one back, do I need to restore it to factory so its not rooted? Will Verizon look at it or care?

I'm looking at getting my first smartphone, and I can get an HTC Desire for like 50 bucks from US Cellular after negotiation.Everything I've read points to the HTC Desire being an amazing phone. Anyone want give it a thumbs up? If the only real criticism is that's it's not brand new anymore, well, it's US Cellular.

i got DreamLyfe icons for my LauncherPro dock and I'm loving them so far...they make your phone so much more professional looking for some reason...
11/25/2010 11:02:35 PM
Those are very nice icons. XDA always has new ones too.

why the fuck does at&t get first dibs on everything? is it because they're an inferior company so they have no bargaining power and accept whatever shitty terms the manufacturers offer?
11/26/2010 9:58:24 AM
Just got a droid x. Love it so far!
11/26/2010 4:31:46 PM
^^ not necessarily first dibs. Verizon's version of the Olympus is the Etna.

my DX has been having issues with the camera starting up, i have to power off, reboot and try again to get it to workanyone else have this problem
11/26/2010 7:14:19 PM
i have been hearing lots of complaints from stock epic users with basic functionality things like making phone callsand here i am modding the hell out of my evo - overclocked, undervolted, rooted, skinned up the wazoo, and it works like a charm.i am happy i didn't wait for the hardware keyboard now

Lets totally ignore that guy talking about shitty HTC phones from last year, the nerve of him.
11/27/2010 3:17:15 AM
^You'd be way more happy spending $50 more and getting the Galaxy S phone they carry.
11/27/2010 8:22:49 AM
Any droidX owners had problems with their phone not working? Sometimes when I click the call button, the activity (if android spawns calls that way) crashes and the call doesn't go through. Also, sometimes the call will go through but neither me nor the person on the other end can hear each other talking. I'm not sure if it's a problem caused by having low signal when I try to do it or what.Any thoughts?
11/27/2010 5:59:48 PM
Droid x owner, never seen that happen, been using it since it came out, might want to take it to the store and have them look at it, maybe google first and see if its a common problem.
11/27/2010 6:32:54 PM
^^never seen/heard of that. time for a reset if it keeps happening!
11/27/2010 6:56:09 PM
^^^ I've had the issue with neither party hearing the other but thats it. It was right after I rooted and a battery pull fixed it. In the month or two sinc then, it's never repeated.

the desire is a nice phone, but it's very old technology.
11/28/2010 12:23:06 AM
Yeah, that was my only concern, but I'm on a flip phone currently, so I'm kind of used to stepping into old shoes every time I step up.But even if the Mesmerize is newer, if it has bad not-so-great reviews and uses the same tech, is it really worth it just to be up-to-date?
11/28/2010 2:49:14 AM
got one question for you, how much video/video gaming do you plan to use on your phone? If you aren't going to use the hell out of the multimedia advantage the galaxy s phones provide, there's really no reason to get it over the desire. otherwise you weigh the slightly larger and better screen, and a slightly better processor (much better GPU), with better stability, a more liked UI, currently 2.2 availability (both will get it, but right now the Desire has it), and here's a big one for some people: no GPS issues. The Galaxy S line is better (hardware wise, the software is pretty buggy at times), but if you aren't going to use the multimedia a ton there's no reason to get it over a Desire with that price difference.
11/28/2010 3:51:47 AM
I know it sounds like a tiny thing, but the Desire was a lot easier to type on than the Mesmerize. I'll just have to go play with them both again. US Cellular currently lists both models as 2.1 Android. Pardon what will sound like a stupid question, but am I able as the customer, after purchase, to upgrade it myself to 2.2?
11/28/2010 12:38:36 PM
hardware wise, the Mesmerize wins. I'm still fond of SenseUI over Touchwiz though. The bad thing is that Samsung is slow as fuck rolling out Froyo (Android 2.2) and the US versions of the galaxy S could be stuck on 2.1 into January of next year. There's a couple froyo leaks for them but are quite buggy from reports. Not sure what's available for the desire but HTC is usually good about getting out updates.

Got bored the other day and sprayed the battery cover for the Fascinate with a textured paint. Beats the heck out of the glossy stuff and makes it less slippery without a case. Only thing I don't like is the shimmer part of it.

i tried myn's warm 2.2 rom on my evo yesterday with a ziggy kernel and it was too laggy to use. i'm on fresh 3.4.0.1 with a netarchy 4.1.9.1 kernel. HAVS gives me stuttered video playback so i'm on the CFS for now since i watch xvid on this regularly. but battery life is fucking amazing...i'm almost wary to even TRY cyanogen. myn's warm 2.2 looked fucking sexy as hell and with the stock kernel i'm sure it would have been fine. but i enjoy the little speed boost provided by overclocking to 1.152ghz.has anyone else on here maxed out their evo?
11/28/2010 10:01:48 PM
just had to show off what this thing looks likeyou don't understand how happy it makes me when a modder actually has a sense of fucking aesthetic design...most of them are HIDEOUS (e.g. Riptide's ColorNClear) [Edited on November 29, 2010 at 12:34 PM. Reason : .]

I am sad at the lack of new hardware this holiday season.
11/30/2010 6:57:07 AM
So, several months in and I am loving my Droid X still. Driving I use the voice commands and talk-to-text features a lot and it is incredibly accurate. My main complaint is that whenever I initiate the voice commands, the phone hangs up for at least 5 complete seconds before I get the "say a command..." prompt. Many times it is even longer. Nothing is sluggish on the phone and the commands work fine after that. Any thoughts?

so apparently they finally rooted the Nook 2. Gonna get me juan.
11/30/2010 9:31:04 AM
my droid X is the shiz.
At this early stage, is LG to be trusted with a high end android phone?
11/30/2010 9:40:44 AM
meh, the Ally wasn't that bad and the Optimus One line is quite popular so it's not like they were producing crappy low to mid-range android devices.
11/30/2010 9:44:33 AM
I love my ally, if it were not underpowered and a tad too small it would be an awesome phone. I use my droid x for all apps, navigation and most web browsing and ally for talking, texting, music, etc.
11/30/2010 9:49:44 AM
so my wife has one of the first driods that came out, the HTC Eris. its slow as damnit and for some reason wigs out when she tries to sync it with two gmail accounts. i know that the HTC Incredible and Motorola Driod X have faster processors and more memory. Does anyone have experience with syncing either of these phones with two email addresses? how does it perform?
11/30/2010 10:37:41 AM
I had the X before the Fascinate. Neither have a problem with more than 1 gmail account.
11/30/2010 10:38:31 AM
ok cool thanks!

11/30/2010 10:48:32 AM
from the HTC website...
11/30/2010 10:52:24 AM
yeah, think that's pre-2.1 thing
11/30/2010 10:56:12 AM
This was referred to before, but no actual link: http://phandroid.com/2010/11/29/att-confirms-olympus-for-december-or-january-then-quickly-recants-statement/Looks like I might be getting a phone with this years technology soon
11/30/2010 5:06:10 PM
Did anyone ever get that DI01 update problem worked out for the Fascinate? Mine still flakes out and I'm thinking of taking it back to Verizon. I don't want the auto update to not work whenever other updates come out (e.g., 2.2 (haha)).
12/1/2010 1:51:41 PM
never had a problem grabbing the update after I switched off wifi. Seems that quite a few people are still having issues with it though.
12/1/2010 2:05:11 PM
so looks like the Merge won't be available anytime soon if it's going to support LTE.http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/01/verizon-4g-lte-press-release/
12/1/2010 2:35:14 PM
I can see its uses for a mobile laptop modem, but is LTE on a cell phone really going to enhance the user experience that much?
12/1/2010 2:42:37 PM
helps for those traveling since it's basically going to be a universal worldwide standard and anyone who tethers their phone.
12/1/2010 2:44:15 PM
No one here interested in the Nook Color rooting?
12/1/2010 9:02:57 PM
it's not a very powerful device. if you want to get a tablet to play around with, there are better options coming up
