1/22/2016 2:53:22 PM

It's nasty freezing rain up near Rolesville. Just switched over from ice pellets/sleet about an hour ago and we've already got icicles forming on all elevated surfaces. Could get bad if this keeps up.
1/22/2016 3:26:38 PM
raining like crazy now ITB, it's clearing the roads but the trees are getting loaded with ice[Edited on January 22, 2016 at 3:51 PM. Reason : .]

My buddy drives a civic almost every weekend to the mountains and has nice snow tires. He drives really fast too and flies by everyone else. It's amazing the difference. He also goes through a set almost every other season. They really only last 20-30k miles especially if you drive on pavement without snow/ice on it. Driving on normal road will eat through them pretty quickly.
1/22/2016 3:48:04 PM
NOOOOOO FREEZING RAIN!!!!!! I DONE WANNA LOSE POWER
1/22/2016 4:05:12 PM
^^ I'm ITB and I'm still getting sleet. That being said, I did drive earlier and went to state of beer, so it's not bad.
1/22/2016 4:09:01 PM
I pretty much live in the woods and all of the branches around me are already strugglingthis is gonna be pretty bad
1/22/2016 4:13:16 PM

Tree branches are sagging pretty good down here in Holly Springs. Just had a branch snap in the woods behind my house.
1/22/2016 4:22:22 PM
this is like the football thread at the beginning of the season where i pointed out that we had obvious issues and got criticized but was proven correct
1/22/2016 4:23:40 PM
Except for the part where you said that it would be 40 degrees today and everything would melt....
1/22/2016 4:29:19 PM
ahh, the classic "Say a lot of things, gloat about what I got correct, and ignore where I was wrong" approach. A timeless classic.
1/22/2016 4:31:36 PM
^ it is an old, but well respected move.

Power outage reports starting to come in. A friend that's about 20 minutes SE of downtown lost power an hour ago. And someone else I know in Clayton just reported their power is out.
1/22/2016 4:51:38 PM
i guess i should go get my ass on the treadmill before we lose power up here

Two kids are already dead in traffic accidents this afternoon in Iredell County.
1/22/2016 5:06:50 PM
Just drove around again. Roads are fine. Just slushy.
1/22/2016 5:19:46 PM
I live in downtown and my power is gone. Been off for an hour. Just stopped sleeting though. Hasn't turned to rain; it's just doing nothing now.

1/22/2016 7:09:20 PM
Still got power (knock on wood). We're OTB though, so still living like street urchins.
1/22/2016 7:18:17 PM
Nothing but rain in Pender County.
1/22/2016 7:32:19 PM
Haven't had power for probably 3 hours here in Johnston county. Lotta branches and trees down.
1/22/2016 7:38:51 PM
we only lost power for about 30 minutes, house temp didn't even drop 1 degree
1/22/2016 7:52:38 PM
Long live the king
1/22/2016 7:52:44 PM
My grandparents in Scotland Neck have been without power for over two hours and they just got rain. Guess some of it froze and pulled a limb down, but they lose power all the time for no good reason.
1/22/2016 8:25:26 PM
It doesn't look like they even tried to salt the roads in Charlotte. Even the 485 is completely snowed over. Roads are quite driveable, though, as long as you aren't stupid. I'm in a civic, though
1/22/2016 8:34:57 PM
Major power spasms here at lake Johnson but we're still up
1/22/2016 9:13:42 PM
Still no power. Going on about 9 hours now.
1/23/2016 1:14:40 AM
Had power the whole time, it flickers now and then but comes back within a few seconds to half a minute
1/23/2016 1:32:44 AM
Fuck I'm cold. Bring back power please
1/23/2016 7:58:44 AM
And still no power since ~4:30 PM yesterdayDrove around last night around 1AM. Saw crews working. Saw neighbors within a couple miles get their power back last night. Roads weren't bad at all then. But haven't been out this morning since it snowed. Figured roads would be pretty gross. [Edited on January 23, 2016 at 8:10 AM. Reason : H]

I lost power for 4 hours overnight (live in north garner). Hope you all with your power out get it back quickly. I think we've just been lucky not to have a tree fall on anything, and I haven't heard a lot of wind since the end of the freezing rain last night (if there was any right now I'd probably go hide in the hall closet).
1/23/2016 8:09:51 AM
Snow covered....finally[Edited on January 23, 2016 at 8:26 AM. Reason : ...]

1/23/2016 8:48:02 AM
So last night the power was out. And flickered back for a split second maybe 5 times before staying off for good. Off in the back yard we could see a real bright red and bluish glow light up the sky each time the power flickered back on. It was noy surrounding lights because we live kinda in the middle of nowhere. I don't think it woulda been transformer blowing because we didn't hear anything and it happened on separate, multiple occasions. Anybody got a clue what that coulda been? The bright glow coincided with the lights flickering. But like I said, don't think it could been surrounding lights because of where we live.[Edited on January 23, 2016 at 9:16 AM. Reason : Hhh]
1/23/2016 9:09:43 AM
aliens definitely aliens
1/23/2016 9:10:17 AM
Well that seems like the obvious answer IMO. I just figured any alien with that kinda technology woulda got my power back on.
1/23/2016 9:15:18 AM
aliens aren't necessarily altruistic man
1/23/2016 9:18:21 AM
Decent snow coating out there.
