^^^ i am rocking froyo on my Vibrant, battery life seems really good. I get a full day of decent usage... never feel the need to rush to my charger. I have played with the Droid X and would lean towards the Vibrant, but I am partial.

thx! ya as nitpicky as it sounds, i dont like having physical buttons with a touchscreen device, i find it pretty annoying. and the droid-x is just barely too big to comfortably fit in one hand and swype around on with my thumb. i think the galaxy will be a better fit.swype is for the f'ing win, btw. fantastic once you get used to it.

my incredible downloaded some update yesterday and now it make some high pitch squeal when plugged into the little usb transformer charger thing. well, actually, i think it might be the transformer. either way its weird, should i be concerned?

Why the hell are the worst apps for Android built by Google? I mean, really.
11/15/2010 7:39:09 AM
I saw this cheesy advert for 'lookout' a security/backup/tracking app and I was wondering if anyone actually used it? I've had trouble with Prey the last couple of times it's been installed so I figured I'd install this one and test it out. It's bothering me though I've not heard anything about it on the forums or before now.
11/15/2010 9:55:41 AM
yea, i tried lookout, lasted about 10 min. on my phone because of how it seemed to bog down everything, installing apps took about twice as long, opening apps took twice as long, just didn't seem worth it.but i don't know if that's normal.[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 9:59 AM. Reason : .]
11/15/2010 9:59:31 AM
I use Lookout on my Epic, havent noticed any decrease in speed. Im not sure its really worth it, but I like the fact it scans the apps you download.
11/15/2010 10:30:13 AM
anyone else install the MIUI browser 1.1 yet? how do you like it so far?
11/15/2010 11:30:52 AM
Don't really have anything to add to this thread except that my blackberry crapped out last week and I got a Samsung Captivate over the weekend. I love it so much.
11/15/2010 1:11:14 PM
^ this is a post I made for the Vibrant. A lot of it will apply to your phone (Post 1 is mostly regarding root, so this would not apply directly but the process would be nearly identical). Be sure and check out the XDA section for the Captivate, it will be your best friend.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732458[Edited on November 15, 2010 at 4:27 PM. I've just downloaded LCD Density (root required). It basically changes the DPI of the LCD output. Not exactly sure how I feel about it. Some apps fit more on the screen, while some just take up a smaller part of the screen. Anyone else use this?

^unless google releases the nexus s (or whatever it's called) on a network worth a damn, it'll fail just like the n1 did.
11/15/2010 8:47:45 PM
Claiming the N1 failed is ridiculous. It accomplished a lot. The only thing that Google wanted to have happen from it that didn't was move phone purchases away from the carriers and instead have it trend to buying them online. The Google Phone store was a failure, but the N1 was a big success. It's a big reason why you see phones like the Droid X, the HTC Evo, and Samsung Captivate on the market right now. Before the Nexus One no one was really putting that impressive of hardware into their phones despite the technology being available. Sure it never sold like the iPhone4 did, but that wasn't ever the point of the N1. As for the N2? It'll likely end up mostly a developer phone, and probably have multi-carrier support (if it isn't LTE, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just T-Mobile and ATT) like the Nexus One did. It's biggest point is that the Nexus One is getting out dated and they need a phone that can do all the things that Android will be able to do in the next year (1080p recording comes to mind, even though cell phone cameras are typically so crappy that it really isn't worth having over a 720p recording cell phone).

Any opinions on the best car mount/charger out there right now? Picked up a Fascinate and am abusing the hell out of my battery with navigation. Preferably looking for a non-windshield mounted one

I'm due to get a new phone on Verizon. Should I just get the Droid Incredible/something else or wait a couple of months?
11/16/2010 7:03:48 PM
Ok, question: Can I use my DroidX as a USB wireless adapter? I want to hook my extra PC up to my TV in the living room and stream shit from my other computer without running 50ft of CAT5 and I really dont' want to go out and buy a damn adapter.Basically can I tether my wifi connection, i guess?[Edited on November 16, 2010 at 9:19 PM. 11/16/2010 9:19:15 PM
You'd rather not spend $20 on an adapter than to have to trouble yourself to hook and unhook your X to your PC whenever you want to use it?
11/16/2010 9:29:51 PM
don't think it's possible anyway. IIRC the only thing you can tether over usb is your 3G service.
11/16/2010 9:30:51 PM
^^ yep.

Finally overclocked my Evo to 1.15 ghz stable ...so excited...runs just a bit smoother...the right level that I needed...Running on burnt droid with netarchy.

yeah, I'd hold tight and see what comes of the HTC Merge and if there are any LTE options in the first couple months of 2011. Hopefully they'll roll it out in Raleigh soon.
11/17/2010 8:27:15 AM
Cool...I'll wait for a couple of months then. I figured since it's been a few months since the Droid 2/Incredible/X, we'd see a couple of new phones soon.
11/18/2010 6:32:48 AM
anything thinking of trying the SD Split widget for root users, I don't recommend it. I'm having to format my SD card and restore it after using this. Even though it's a hassle switching back and forth between mounted and unmounted, I'd rather do that than fuck something up like I did by using it at the same time on both devices or not ejecting properly and shit.
11/18/2010 6:42:33 AM
Just an fyi, pdanet did exactly what I needed

when will the Uverse app come out for android... I read it was released being released in october, but I still haven't seen it anywhere
11/18/2010 11:49:54 AM
Great, now I have another problem. Phone sat on the dock all night like normal...fully charged...less than an hour after I take it off the dock it says it's at 30%. Sit it in the car charger on the way to work...gets up to 80%...as soon as I take it off it's at 30% again >.<

if i bought a Droid 2 on amazon ($40) or best buy mobile ($99) rather than verizon ($150) with my 2 year upgrade, would verizon still honor the phone if i brought it in for minor repairs? all the best buy mobile tech could tell me is to buy the black tie protection for $10/month, which i don't really want to do. has anyone had luck with negotiating prices at a verizon store?
11/18/2010 12:34:16 PM
11/18/2010 2:30:55 PM
^^ Verizon isn't going to budge any on the phone prices. You may get them to give you some accessories for free or at a discounted price. You should still be able to call into verizon for assistance and get a replacement if it's related to a manufacturer's defect but I doubt they'd replace anything in a verizon store. The one good thing about the black tie protection is that I believe you get a new phone instead of a refurbished one on warranty replacements.
11/18/2010 6:00:34 PM
^^ The Android U Verse App has been out (for AT&T Wireless) customers for quite sometime. I'm using it right now. It appeared in the Android market for AT&T customers (it appears for me on my Captivate). If you aren't an AT&T wireless customer, you should be able to find an APK if you search hard enough. I'll see if I can pull it off my device for you.

Anyone seen the new Netfront Life home replacement. It's pretty nifty but doesn't seem quite ready for prime time. It's definitely memory hog and lags often.http://www.droid-life.com/2010/11/18/home-replacement-app-netfront-life-screen/#more-20021

Hey, can I switch the conversation to android tablets for a minute? It seems like the market is getting flooded with these things over the holidays, and they all seem more or less the same (on the inside).Does anyone have a good scoop on which one(s) is/are the best hardware, performance, etc?

I'm having an issue on my Evo 4G where I'll tap the Home button and it flashes a green HTC on a white screen, and takes about 10+ seconds to get me back to my home screen.I'm thinking it's reloading HTC Sense or something like that, because after it flashes HTC it shows a grayed out background with a "Please Wait" message in the foreground, until it finally the home screen as it should. I'm normally in some other application, and am tapping home to get to my home screen (dur).Any ideas?

Can anybody recommend an app for using your droid as a universal tv remote??
11/24/2010 9:58:38 AM
Yep. Use Skyfire to go to Amazon and buy a Harmony.
11/24/2010 10:31:17 AM
cute
11/24/2010 10:50:22 AM
I don't think there is such a thing...theres no infared transmitter on the droidi know you can control computers with apps (like Gmote), but i doubt you'll be able to control any TVs[Edited on November 24, 2010 at 10:57 AM. Reason : ]
