Absolute compliment - I thought the following sentence would clarify that. He was a rock. He forced Panama's mid fielders into so many bad passes. He tracked back. He was composed on the ball and distributed in every direction. And he almost had a left footed screamer on target from the top of the box.
6/14/2013 1:21:43 AM
is il general what he's going by these days?
6/14/2013 1:41:07 AM
from the Roma supporters, yes
6/14/2013 8:10:24 AM
Michael Bradley nickname update:Google tells me he got that nickname while at Chievo Verona. Carry on.
6/14/2013 9:09:59 AM
I'm so glad we don't have to play in the goddamn Confederations Cup this year. I'm sure B4C is heartbroken.
6/14/2013 7:37:14 PM
6/15/2013 10:30:12 AM
^That's a pretty butthurt move. Sounds like something Jim Rutherford would pull off.
6/15/2013 10:56:52 AM
^^ Ian Darke said it was 2,000 short of the capped capacity even.I'm sure if it was Costa Rica or Honduras, with more ex-pats, it would sell out there. Portland needs to get a WCQ as well..
6/15/2013 1:03:50 PM
Anyone got a free stream for the US women's soccer match? I don't have espn 3 login.
6/15/2013 7:11:39 PM
Bump. Honduras game tonight at 9 on ESPN. A win will put us in a very comfortable spot to qualify.Zusi/Jones are back, Beasley out on yellow cards. Beckerman added to the roster.Other players on yellows (and would miss our next game at Costa Rica) - Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron, Brad Davis, Clint Dempsey, Brad Evans, Tim Howard and Fabian Johnson.I won't be too terribly upset if some of those players get yellows tonight and miss CR. I'd rather them miss an away game we aren't likely to win than the next game against Mexico.
6/18/2013 11:52:40 AM
Hopefully Cameron will play again even if Jones back.Does anyone know if the kickoff is actually at 9:00 or if it's really 9:30? Thinking about going to Nevada Smith's in NYC for this one.[Edited on June 18, 2013 at 1:37 PM. Reason : .]
6/18/2013 1:37:36 PM
If he's healthy enough to play, I'd bet my life that Jones is back in the starting lineup.Kickoff is 9:06 ET
6/18/2013 2:55:29 PM
going to be a long night at the bar...
6/18/2013 3:37:26 PM
6/18/2013 8:02:42 PM
Got the W. Can practically book the hotel rooms in Brazil now.
6/18/2013 11:38:21 PM
Great win and it keeps us in first place!
6/18/2013 11:46:10 PM
guess not many were watching this over NBA Finals and/or NC State baseball Didn't miss much. Honduras had a very good game plan and I agree with Twellman that it had a similar feeling to US/Mexico in Azteca with us in the Mexico role.Lucky for us, Jozy is in the form of his life and finishes the few chances he gets now. And even luckier, we're not Mexico and know how to score goals at home.
6/19/2013 8:01:09 AM
We are goingWe are goingWe are going to Brazil
6/19/2013 9:20:10 AM
^^I was flipping back and forth between all three. Popped back just in time to Jozy's goal. Love that we have a legit competent striker now it seems.
6/19/2013 9:43:31 AM
If Jozy keeps playing like this it changes everything.
6/19/2013 10:42:27 AM
I just wish we had a tandem up front of capable forwards, even if they wouldn't necessarily play together. It would be nice to have Charlie Davies, pre-wreck, on the bench/paired with Jozy. Jozy's going to need broad/uninjured shoulders to carry this team in Brazil. I guess an inform Eddie Johnson is the most we can hope for.
6/19/2013 1:01:38 PM
^ True that. Landon Donovan would be perfect for that role, to be honest. Maybe he'll stop being a bitch.Davies didn't really emerge as a legit option until Confederations Cup so it's possible somebody off the radar ends up being that guy in this cycle like maybe Bobby Wood or Jack Mcinerney. Both are on the Gold Cup roster.
6/19/2013 3:19:10 PM
^Well they really only have one chance left this cycle since we have been a fail at every level. I really think it helped last time when our players got to play in so many tournaments together.
6/19/2013 9:44:05 PM
^^^ Clint Dempsey???
6/19/2013 11:32:35 PM
Dempsey is not a pure striker, and it would be a waste of his talents to use him that way.
6/19/2013 11:50:27 PM
I know this is random, but I want to go to brazil for the first 2 weeks next year. Anyone in on splitting hotels and finding the same time frame to fly etc?
6/20/2013 1:52:09 AM
^hostels
6/20/2013 1:55:34 AM
6/20/2013 8:05:09 AM
I'll be in Brazil for group play as well. Ticket applications go out after the confederation's cup from the US Soccer supporter's club so I will know more about where I'll be after tickets are drawn.
6/20/2013 8:26:43 AM
FYI hostels in Rio are over $100 a night during Carnival (with a multiple night minimum), and I would expect them to cost more for the World Cup. I can't begin to imagine what a night at an even halfway decent hotel will cost, but I'm guessing it will be out of your price range unless you're rich. I would try and couch surf honestly and save yourself the cost of your plane ticket.
6/20/2013 9:37:55 AM
I'm prepared to pay the premium on hotels and such, but I will also be down with three other guys so it shouldnt be breaking the bank to get a decent room. The US might not be in Rio as well. It all depends on the draw in Jan.
6/20/2013 1:38:52 PM
They are protesting price gouging for confederations cup. The people are going to push trhough legislation that will likely include accomodations and not just public transportation. Brazil is a large country and their people want to go see the games as well. Landon Donavan's return to form would make us top 15 for sure but maybe even top 10. We are GOOOOOD right now.
6/20/2013 1:56:00 PM
Let's not get carried away. We're one striker-injury away from having a completely worthless side.
6/20/2013 3:37:05 PM
Spain wins 10-0 with 27 to 1 SOG Vs. Tahiti
6/20/2013 7:14:43 PM
What an awesome international display!I know that the Confederations Cup exists more as a test of logistics and infrastructure than anything else, but can we finally kill this stupid fucking thing?
6/20/2013 8:21:00 PM
6/20/2013 8:54:16 PM
U-20 World Cup group play vs Spain. On ESPN2, now.Our own Tab Ramos is coaching the US. [Edited on June 21, 2013 at 1:52 PM. Reason : group of death]
6/21/2013 1:48:46 PM
^And we got pounded! Spain 4 USA 1
6/21/2013 9:04:42 PM
So those who are planning on going lets organize this thing and get some of us in brazil baby!
6/23/2013 6:45:30 PM
So those of us who aren't going lets organize so we can pitch in to pay ^ that groups ransom.
6/23/2013 6:50:11 PM
the most you could do now is get your visa. You don't know where you will be playing and Brazil is a big ass country and spur of the moment transportation will likely be sold out everywhere.
6/24/2013 11:25:49 AM
so someone has to get their visa to go to Brazil for 10 days? I did not know that. I have a passport. I too was thinking about going.
6/24/2013 10:21:50 PM
Yep, just got back from Rio and you need a Visa.
6/24/2013 11:02:37 PM
Gold Cup roster. Not much to see here. Hopefully Holden gets some minutes, Donovan proves himself to Klinsmann, and McInerney plays well. Also, goodbye Bocanegra. If you can't make this roster then you won't make a WCQ roster.
6/27/2013 11:20:09 AM
Does onyewu actually play for Malaga? That'd be pretty impressive. I thought klesjian was the only American playing champions league. Also, what happened to Jonathan Spector? Dude just fell off the face of the earth it seems like.
6/27/2013 5:32:34 PM
re: Gooch - lol nah I think he made like 2 appearances for them all season. And for Spector, that's what happens when you go to the Championship.
6/27/2013 6:04:28 PM
are we trying NOT to win this thing? i know we are using a B squad, but man...
6/27/2013 7:01:57 PM
Write down the benefits of winning, then look at the blank sheet and ask yourself that question again.
6/27/2013 8:44:48 PM
U-20s finish 4th in the group. Fail!
6/27/2013 9:35:17 PM
I guess the ones who played in the WCQs on that roster are still considered fringe players, otherwise I see no reason for their inclusion in the Gold Cup.
6/27/2013 11:24:33 PM
