Goddammit she brought her kid in again today. I guess it's good that most of my day today is meetings in other buildings

And the tantrums have begun while his mom just laughs at him. Thank god I'm leaving my desk for a meeting in five minutes.

Post a video and I'll do my part to make it go viral and humiliate the mom.

I did on Tuesday. She gave me grief about how I "just don't understand what it's like to have a kid and work full-time." I understand that when my mom did it she would have made us severely regret acting a fool at her work on the days she was forced to bring us in lol.

Really though I should be annoyed with our director because apparently this all came to be when he told this woman she was no longer allowed to telecommute on days her kid was sick or his daycare was closed.

^ hahaha seriously tempting. Maybe I'll bring in my camera tomorrow since I'm guessing he'll be here then, too

Then you say "you don't know what it's like to work full-time with a fucking screaming kid in the office"

haha true. I feel especially bad for the woman that shares the office with this woman. She ended up coming into work yesterday so she could have the office to herself instead of being locked in there with the kid. I doubt she'll say anything to anyone about the kid because she just started working here two weeks ago and doesn't want to make waves.

i made a poor decision on which boots to buy for work this year, and i don't get another credit to "purchase" a new pair until next calendar year. $100 annual shoe allowance is kinda nice.

hopefully they'll break in more, it has only been a couple of days.

Background: Last year the new chancellor decreed that individual desks/offices would no longer have trash pickup. Instead, they would come by once a month and leave a supply of bags and you were responsible for taking your trash to a common area can (which would continue to be serviced by housekeeping) when full. Supposedly this would save labor and let them eliminate vacant housekeeping positions. One of the ladies in my office talked our zone housekeeper into continuing our weekly pickup on the grounds that there is no common area trash can near here, which is true.

Recently they moved the housekeeping staff around so we have a new person. I wasn't aware of this (they clean at night so we never see them) until my can was not emptied on the usual trash day, nor for several days afterward, until I had to take it out myself because it started to smell bad. There were no spare bags underneath so I figured I'd wait around and see if any appeared. 2 weeks later and I still have no bag in my trash can and no way to communicate that I need one.

have you tried the Timberland Pros? i wore Durashocks, but i switched to the Timberland Pros and i like them much better. (i'm assuming you have to wear steel toes.)

we used to have a shoe allowance just like yours, but now it's kinda become "take your company credit card and go get some shoes if you need them, but don't abuse it."

how does someone constantly lose their paychecks?

this isn't much of an annoyance to me because it just bypasses me, I just have to relay the message and it definitely provides me with many lols but it's starting to get on everyone elses nerves. lolol

I wanna be nice in this email but at the same time I want to scream at the top of my lungs!!! We have been working on this figure panel for a peer review paper submission and my boss and his colleagues can't make up their minds what they want to show. Ive done a protein Western on these samples too many times...this way, that way, ok repeat this way that way, because of this and that. But no we can't show this or that, re run again now. No but this doesn't have that, so get rid of these tumor samples. Ok re run again because we need to add 3 more to the figure. OHMY FUCKING GOD.

I could be short and just say, "Sorry, I don't have enough samples to run these again."

OR ( My boss doesn't realize these tumors are hard to come by becauase...well he doesn't do any of the bench work!)

"I don’t have any more samples to run all of these again. Need more tumors for most of these. If Tom doesn’t have some tumor chunks to lyse, then it’s going to be a photoshop job. We can’t keep re running these because ideas for the panel keep changing, I just don’t have enough to run them. "

I'm afraid option 2 might be a bit passive though.

so if you are leaving for a whole week on vacation, and you knew about for months ahead of time, PLEASE do not set up a complex experiment the DAY BEFORE YOU GO and then when it fails act surprised and try to text crappy directions about how I am supposed to fix your shit. grrrr... I do not have time to figure out why your setup didn't work, and I don't have time to set it up the right way for you.... fuck you

My wife complains a lot about being on the flip side of that coin.

Outlook thingy pops up on the bottom of my screen telling me I got an email. Keep working on my current project.

Two seconds later phone rings. "Did you get the email I just sent?"

Looks at email and it's just a picture of my coworker's dog sleeping on a couch

Keep working on current project

My boss makes maple oatmeal for breakfast every morning and then leaves her nasty ass oatmeal cup in the sink in the kitchen for the other 23 hours of the day.

So I get to deal with maple-smell for an hour every. day. Then I have to navigate around the fact that she's too lazy to actually clean her cup.

I really want to put up a sign: "In an effort to improve cleanliness building staff will be disposing of any dishes left in the sink overnight. Thanks!"

Old people

We have to sit in an FCC webinar, and one lady already watched it...here's a comment she gave us

Quote :
"- FCC Tech person that conducts actual demonstration states that Mozilla and Firefox Browser works best for using this new platform. He states in Internet Explorer some things don't work correctly. Would it be a good idea to implement Mozilla or Firefox as our primary web browser just to make sure we are all on the same page when interfacing with this platform? I have this problem when completing the FCC's children's Form 398 using their online filing system. I have to do part of the form in Internet Explorer then save and then go to Firefox to complete and submit. This is a pain but I have managed to work around it for years. This is the first I have heard the FCC say that Internet Explorer is not the best web browser to use for their online interfaces."

Why didn't she use firefox the whole time?

guy at work today totally suggested wrapping a JSON payload (that my code is generating) into an XML document so that we could add one more field to the document. I was on the way out when I got his email, so I couldn't respond to such an absurd idea.

this is also the guy that is in charge of a service that takes output from my program and turns it into input for a different service, and he wants me to make my shit be exactly like the service his service is being an adapter for. It's like he's never heard of the adapter pattern before.

I got locked INSIDE my office yesterday.

My office is on the top floor of one of those old Charleston Single houses downtown. There are 5 offices all next to each other that have front doors that lead to the porch and they all have doors that connect the offices on the side.

I brought my dog to work yesterday for the first time and my neighboring office guys had the door open, and since I had a bunch of shit in my hands plus my dog, I went through their front door and side door to get to my office instead of fumbling with my keys (leaving my front door still locked).

I work til about lunch and see that my dogs needs to pee. I take my key out to unlock my front door (one of those locks that can only be opened with a key), and it doesn't work. The same lock has different key entries for the inside and outside locks...WTF???

Go to the next two offices that are connected and every single person is out to lunch and their doors are locked. I am completely locked inside of my office. Luckily I was able to take a bunch of shit out of the windows to get that open and I crawled out and unlocked my door from the outside.

Was very frustrating and ridiculously annoying at the time (was also worried that my dog was going to piss all over the office)...but it's funny when you look back on it.

guy at work comes around every day (sometimes 2 & 3 times) to say hello and has to fist bump every time....I fucking hate fist bumps and I don't know why. Maybe because he has annoyed the fuck out of me here lately...who knows

he also thinks he's a comedian but isn't funny at all...I think he's getting my hints of not paying him much attention or rolling my eyes at the jokes

2 missed calls from guy I work with one at 7 and one at 745am ( I was getting ready to go in, I ain't answering shit before 8 am when I will see you later, I don't like bs work calls off the clock)

guy this AM via text: do you have the truck

guy this AM via email 5 minutes after texting: (so and so) told me to email because you will read email faster. Where is the truck? I signed it out for the mornings so I could get this project done at a certain time, This is messing up my schedule.

I text: don't have the truck, sorry

guy: well so and so and the other so and so don't have them, where are they?

few hours later I see him, and ask "so did you ever find where the truck was?"

he nonchalantly replies " oh yea, I accidentally took the keys home wednesday and left them at my house" THAT WAS TWO FUCKING DAYS AGO and you are bitching at me? (we have a dish in our lab for all the keys, so if one isn't there we often assume someone is using it.

... this is just one of many things I get blamed for, and normally I would brush it off bc he just wanted to find the truck, except if his lazy ass had gone outside 100 ft to the parking lot he would have seen the fucking truck parked RIGHT there, and then could have used the spare keys we have.
