got any details on that software? sounds pretty cool
6/13/2009 6:05:53 PM
I reserved one at the Crabtree Apple store on the apple website. But the fine print at the bottom said I wasn't really guaranteed one. Does anyone know about these reservations?[Edited on June 13, 2009 at 6:31 PM. Reason : .]

^translation: see you bright and early friday morning in line...
6/13/2009 8:05:11 PM
what's my chance of getting one Saturday or Sunday?
6/13/2009 8:09:53 PM
^^^^What software? If you're asking me, I was talking about Remote Buddy. It's not actually an iPhone app, now that I'm remembering correctly, but mac based software that allows you to do all sorts of cool stuff with the Ajax front end on your iPhone including viewing your iSight remotely.]

I went to my local AT&T store and the guy that helped me said that I would need to call over there the day before they went on sale to make sure that he pulled the iPhone with my name on it out of the regular inventory so it wouldn't get sold. When I pointed out that that sort of defeated the purpose of having one with my name on it, he chuckled. So if that's the level of intelligence we're dealing with, you better believe I'm gonna call him on Thurdsay to find out what's up with inventory levels.
6/13/2009 8:26:20 PM
^WTF so when they were so generous with 'free priority next day air' what they really mean is its being shipped in the same crate to the same store as the other 30 or so iPhones? Now I'm really pissed that they already charged me for the damn phone and I still have to wait in line for it
6/13/2009 9:37:56 PM
Oh, I had mine shipped to a store cause I thought it would get there the day before and I could pick it up bright and early, as opposed to waiting around for 2/3rds of a day. I assume anyone that had it shipped to their house would...well, have it shipped to their house. Separately and all that.
6/13/2009 9:41:04 PM
Yeah, I'm pretty sure if you had it shipped to your house, it's going to your house.I had to get it from the store so they wouldn't mess up my plan.

anyone here who lined up for any past iphones overnight or early AM....do people just wait outside until the mall opens?...im assuming the mall isnt 24 hours..how does it work at crabtree or southpoint?
6/14/2009 1:28:50 AM
Southpoint is obvious how it works if you've ever been to that apple store. As for Crabtree...I imagine people wait outside the side entrance thats just an ally right into the side of the apple store.

6/15/2009 8:27:12 AM
haha, wow
6/15/2009 8:27:39 AM
^^are they billing you twice??
6/15/2009 9:53:55 AM
Both are pending, so not really. If both actually clear then AT&T and I are going to have words.
6/15/2009 10:00:26 AM
I need to call AT&T today to bitch them out for already charging me.
6/15/2009 10:34:34 AM
well now this is just silly
6/15/2009 1:05:55 PM
could be good exercise for fat nerds. i don't get these big screen touch screens like the HP Touchsmart.
6/15/2009 1:29:36 PM
i just got an iphone 3g for my birthday.what are the best/easiest apps to get? all i am really interested in are Sports Updates... scores/highlights

6/15/2009 1:31:59 PM
i went ahead and pre-ordered one on at&t, even though the first round of pre-orders is up. i wonder how long it'll take to get shipped.
6/15/2009 2:09:22 PM
Pandora, sportacular, irecorder, iphunny, and craig search are my favorites
6/15/2009 2:12:56 PM

6/15/2009 2:36:23 PM
Do you think if I just walk into an ATT store at the end of July, they'll have some 3GSs in stock?
6/15/2009 3:00:16 PM
maybe..but i'd try an Apple store first
6/15/2009 3:03:25 PM
^^kidding right? end of July?? Of course they will. I'm sure they'll have them in a week or two after the 19th.
6/15/2009 3:32:49 PM
^not without a line simply because it will probably take about 2 weeks to catch up then you will actually start being able to walk in and pick one up (from an apple store though). And at that point theyll probably only have certain models available.
6/15/2009 3:35:31 PM
I wasn't involved in the whole iPhone 3g fiasco. Does anyone remember how long it took until you could just go in and pick one up?I ordered the 32gB 3gs this morning. I know it probably won't ship on the 19th, but i'm wondering when it will.
6/15/2009 3:38:11 PM
It didn't take that long depending on what time of day you go. Going during the week at like 2-3PM should get you the shortest line possible. A few weeks after the launch I went at 530 and the line was starting to form but I was still in and out in like 30 mins
6/15/2009 3:45:07 PM
seems like the first two times..stock held up pretty well.now that they are taking pre-orders and arent subsidizing...i would imagine that the lines would be even shorter..
6/15/2009 5:09:57 PM
Except they are subsidizing.
6/15/2009 5:55:49 PM
Should still be a smaller crowd, though--so many people got 3Gs that won't be upgrading since they're still under contract. Not all of us want to pay $500 for the 3GS just yet.
6/15/2009 5:57:51 PM
Nah, I agree that there will probably be a smaller percentage of people upgrading, and probably less new customers. But still, they are subsidizing the price of the phone for people that qualify. Just like the 3G.
6/15/2009 6:01:22 PM
Yeah prolly will be less people IMO too. The upgrades that came with the 3g seem a lot bigger than 3g to 3gs to me
6/15/2009 6:03:20 PM
^you're kidding right? The upgrade from the 3G to the 3GS is HUGE in comparison. You're just thinking of 'the internet got faster' when this upgrade is much better hardware config, double the capacity, almost 3 times the megapixels of the original camera + video/voice. (not counting 3.0 as an upgrade since thats all phones)
6/15/2009 6:52:00 PM
Yeah, the hardware improvements are a pretty big leap, especially for potential gaming performance (my most common usage, probably even primary to the phone aspect). But considering the price tag plus the current large 3G base, I'm guessing that most apps won't really exclusively take advantage of the new hardware for awhile.
6/15/2009 7:01:56 PM
^What is this "upgraded hardware config"?It's got a little better battery, a little faster core (if that, they may have just bumped the existing core speed), a little better camera (2->3.2mp) and a compass.Yeah it looks cool, but I won't be getting one until I qualify for the free upgrade.
6/15/2009 7:02:56 PM
^ + a dedicated GPU
6/15/2009 7:04:19 PM
6/15/2009 7:05:47 PM
6/15/2009 7:14:15 PM
6/15/2009 7:18:54 PM
the GPU is also upgraded from a PowerVR to a PowerVR2 or something like that. I'm too lazy to read the article i posted earlier again.I'll be getting mine in a few weeks.
6/15/2009 7:21:02 PM
I take that back--the original and 3G also had a GPU (the PowerVR MBX-Lite), while the 3GS has a more powerful one (the PowerVR SGX)
6/15/2009 7:26:42 PM
It's one of those things where, if your upgrade isn't up I fully understand not feeling inclined to upgrade. Meanwhile, if you're still rocking the original iPhone I think it'd be silly not to make the leap (unless the change in the data plan is the issue).
6/15/2009 7:36:44 PM
6/15/2009 7:42:54 PM
^true to a point. Although i'm pretty sure if current iPhone users upgrade to the 3gs then the biggest different they're going to notice is everything is more snappy. I'm upgrading from an iPod touch so i'm really looking forward to it, but i do agree if your contract isn't up and you have a 3g then it's not really a big enough upgrade to spend the extra cash on.
6/16/2009 1:04:43 AM
The 3G by no means sucks or anything. Besides, by the time any app that would take full advantage of the new hardware comes around, a lot of people will be up for upgrades.Although it is impressive how fast some of these big development houses are turning out apps.
