So we have the Men playing in Belmont on Wednesday. Anybody going? I will be there. Weird setup/venue, and they want you to bring potluck foods as a July cookout would imply...

I'd say if you don't go to that and are looking for something show-related, the Layabout here in Durham is hosting its last-ever show at this dive called "La Salamandra," which is a Mexican restaurant turned into a punk venue of sorts. They've hosted Nobunny, Terry Malts, and a few other touring bands and it's really cheap food and alcohol.

Unfortunately the restaurant is closing down after this show. Anyway, it's Bloodshot Bill, Spider Bags, Last Year's Men, Brainbows and the Wigg Report. I believe it's $5 and lasts nearly all day, so check it out...

Trying to figure out if I should drive up from greenville and try for Best Coast at the door or just do something else.

so bweez, not that you're a big best coast fan or anything because you said you weren't, but did you make the drive up from greenville to see them even though you had already gone to the other show in miami? if so, was it different? was it better?

Yes I went. I can't tell if you're being a dick with that first sentence or what. But I mean, I "made the drive up" more to see a friend than to see best coast, that was just our chosen activity. He wanted to do that and I loved Those Darlins and still love Crazy For You so I was down.

It was more fun than the Miami show for sure, but not because Best Coast was better. Best Coast actually probably performed worse. Bethany screwed up like 4 or 5 times. Getting song titles wrong, singing out of key, etc. And I was incredibly not into the new songs, even less than I was in Miami. But I dug the encore. Her voice was pretty shrill though. And the fucking crowd was pretty shrill. Besides the mistakes Best Coast's sets were pretty identical. The miami encore and the carrboro encore shared 3 or 4 songs i think.

Also, I was drunker because I wasn't working(I shoot shows), so that was nice. And Cat's Cradle is much better than Grand Central in Miami. Where PBR's are $6 and the bouncers are fucking ass holes and there are bathroom attendants.

It was disappointing on how few tweenie photos there were tagged of that show on instagram. However, there are a few and they brought the laughs.

I also heard there was some creepy old guy there chaperoning for a group.

Yeah I saw a lot of camera phones being held up but pointing down for self-pics.

There was an older guy in a red shirt beside me but I didn't see him interact with anyone and he was pretty into Those Darlins.

Yeah, he was directly in front of me, wearing a District 19 shirt I think... and encouraging his daughter's insane arm lasso waving, and generally thrashing around

I say "generally" mostly because he had no sense of rhythm so I was unable to avoid his bobbling about

plus he kept taking his hat off and shoving it in my face, and complaining about the heat

in spite of this fellow, I still loved Those Darlins: they kicked ass

Best Coast was good, I actually probably liked watching Bobb more than Bethany though

I lost interest in Cursive after Ugly Organ. Happy Hollow had a few good songs, but the rest wasn't very good. And I only got through Mama, I'm Swollen a few times, but didn't hear anything worth listening to again.

I probably won't listen to I am Gemini unless someone presents a compelling argument.

i accidentally made my friend crowd surf. i picked him up as a drunk hug and some people around me thought i was trying to get him up so they helped put him on top of the crowd.

FI sold out 506 the last time they played there, which was two years ago or so. They almost sold out the Cradle last time through. It'll definitely sell out in advance.

No u right, i guess it's humorous and makes me look douchey or something. but despite my legitimately not being a huge fan, i find that particular criticism of her annoying and i mainly went for those darlins and to hang out with a friend. i think all that's pretty reasonable.


ANYWAY.

Pretty excited for Bear in Heaven on 8/2 and Dirty Projjies on 8/7. Hopefully interviewing both beforehand, pretty nervous :O
