Nice thing about the salary cap is he can't go Huizenga. (Huizenga pretty much invented his losses by not including stadium revenue).

As ^^ said, we have no problem with the Canes. Hell, I was screaming in my fucking house all night before, during, and after the game. I even shed a tear or 2. I'm thrilled to death about this. It's also the Carolina Hurricanes, not Raleigh Hurricanes, just like the Carolina Panthers instead of Charlotte Panthers. This one is for us all. Damn I'm happy.

People called me crazy when I started comparing Ward to Roy during the preseason.

They said my "Cam Roy-rd" sign was stupid.

A Stanley Cup as a rookie is pretty Roy-like. So is a Conn Smythe as rookie. But nothing was as Roy-like as that save. Dear God, that save.

Fucking amazing game. Canes came out like gangbusters and hit EVERYTHING. They skated and skated and skated. The only penalty that came as a result of lazy defending was Wallin's hook, and he couldn't motor around the outside so I understand it. When Commodore and Hedican floored it to catch up with Smyth and prevent a breakaway without taking a penalty, I was ecstatic.

Great, consistent, repetitive good defense. Great stick work, good positioning...I loved it.

The miscommunication between refs that led to the "goal, no, penalty shot, no, minor" is just another example of why referees should be permanently paired, but the officiating was good.

The escalation of the roar with five seconds left was breathtaking. It was great to see Roddy and Glen Wesley (after 169 games) lift that Cup, but God bless Doug Weight for half-lifting that thing with a busted shoulder.

A sweeter victory does not exist. For those of you who suffered through those games in 02-03 when the Canes would always be down a goal within a minute no matter who was in the net...you know what I mean.

Why do they pull the goalie out at the end, leaving an empty net?

Because it does no good to keep guarding your net when you're down a goal w/ less than a minute to go in the game.

What the team *really* needs for the game to even matter is another goal, so they pull the goalie and add another man to attempt to score a goal on the opposing (winning) team. If they do that, and even the score, they'll put the goalie back in and hope for overtime or a last second win themselves.

offensive tactic. give the team down 6 people to score on 5. similar to a power play. you're already down so if the other team scores on an empty net, oh well you were going to lose anyway. as long as you dont turn it over like edmenton did, there's not much threat of an empty netter.
