So whenever i get a new android phone this month, what should i do to my G1

Has anyone had an issue with their Fascinate acting as if it's receiving touches even though you're not touching the screen? If it's in my pocket, it does this.If I'm playing a game (like Angry Birds), it reacts like I touched the menu button A LOT.Can't really duplicate it, either.
11/4/2010 10:50:54 PM
My captivate does not have this issue. ^^keep it in box, first android phone is a cool collectable[Edited on November 4, 2010 at 10:52 PM. Reason : .]

^^^ wifi media (music) center on the cheap (grooveshark, slacker, pandora, etc.), really fancy thumb drive, coffee table gaming device for guests, wifi media center controller (pc) or rdp device. just a few ideas.
11/5/2010 9:19:42 AM
Rooting my droid and installing Lithium MOD v1.0.12 (red theme) is the best thing I could have done for my phone. I cannot believe how much better it runs.
11/5/2010 2:03:17 PM
^^^^^ is the G1 upgradable to latest versions .... I might would buy it from you to use for development ... dont need the data plan, just the wifi for testing.
11/5/2010 2:12:54 PM
you cant upgrade through official means....im living in the stone age.side question..when is the Motorola T2 supposedly coming out?
11/5/2010 3:21:28 PM
Probably Q1 2011 or later
11/5/2010 3:46:58 PM
Hey Volcom, all my buddies with the OG Droid are running Cyanogen. Did you run it also, can you compare the two ROMs?
11/5/2010 4:23:19 PM
11/5/2010 4:29:09 PM
Most of you guys are probably running Chrome. I would strongly encourage trying this theme: http://goo.gl/OZLWp and the Gmail Android theme... My Gmail has never looked so sexy.

anybody have any issues with calendar/DST issues? i have a recurring daily appointment on my calendar for 9:00 am and my phone lists them all at 8:00 am now. I just double-checked my Outlook and it does still say 9:00 am. if there is some kind of bug, i would think i would have heard about it by now, especially with all the media coverage the iphone bug got
11/8/2010 8:40:37 AM
No problems here. Granted I use Touchdown for my exchange email and calendar though

So I have a number of albums (mostly rap) which are cluttering up my 'Artists' list in my music programs (I've been using MixZing, Meridian, and TuneWiki). Dr. Dre's 'The Chronic' for example has 10 songs with different collaborators...so where there should be 1 list item for Dr. Dre there are 10+.Is there any way to group the songs/albums by 'Album Artist' instead of the Artist listed for each song? I've dug through the settings for all 3 programs and didn't see it.
11/8/2010 11:31:56 AM
Only way I know is to edit the ID3 tag in Media Monkey or something to just the artist for all of your albums. This is a huge problem with my music library as well.
11/8/2010 12:08:31 PM
The reason I suggest media monkey is you can edit a whole folder ID3 tag at once vs. one track at a time.
11/8/2010 12:28:20 PM
Ah ok. For some reason I thought there was an ID3 tag for 'Album Title,' but I guess I was mistaken. thx

Hopefully most of you can get upgraded to 2.2+ soon ...http://www.infoworld.com/d/security-central/security-researcher-releases-web-based-android-attack-317

This may be old but Opera Mobile beta will be released this week. Apparently there's hardware acceleration for smoother scrolling, zooming, etc. The video below uses Galaxy S hardware to demonstrate the browser. It reminds me of an Apple commercial (piano music, but no voiceover).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbJPAPoOZho&NR=1edit...Well, it looks like it's out in apk form today. The review below doesn't make the app appear as promising as the video. Anywho - barcode for those interested...http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/11/08/opera-mobile-10-1-beta-now-available-for-android-pinch-to-zoom-and-youtube-support/[Edited on November 8, 2010 at 10:18 PM. Looks like Samsung and Verizon announced the continuum. Pretty nifty how the secondary display will turn on just by holding it.http://www.bgr.com/2010/11/08/samsung-continuum-hands-on/
11/9/2010 11:17:07 AM
I'm tempted, but still kinda holding out for info on the droid t2... me wants dual-core!
11/9/2010 11:33:18 AM
meh, the processors now are plenty fast and capable. If I was going to wait for anything, it'd be LTE.
11/9/2010 11:41:46 AM
opera is meh. hardware acceleration and flash need to be implemented for me to wants it. after that, I'm sold. I've loved the opera 10 interface since WinMo with my TP2.as far as the continuum, looks pretty snazzy, but I personally have gotten used to the 4.3" screen of my Droid X and find it hard to go back to anything smaller. Wish the weather would show numerically, didn't seem to have settings to show the temp, just the condition in the ticker. i'd like a phone that would use a ticker rather than the 4 buttons and a toggle button on the side (or a sensor...whatev) that would switch between "button mode", "ticker mode", or "both".

True. I'm happy with the Fascinate and probably won't look LTE until after the first generation to let the bugs get worked out and LTE gets rolled out more places.[Edited on November 9, 2010 at 2:25 PM. Reason : ]

Source on droidforums.net who supposedly signed an NDA with Verizon about the new device releases said that the Droid Incredible HD will go on pre-sale 11/12. Apparently Verizon has been keeping hush hush on it to try and sell as many of the Incredible phones as possible before the new release.I will definitely be picking one of these up

Can you guys refer me to the best rom for the og droid, and an oc kernel. My buddy is running cm6 and he said it just seems a little laggy.

^ Have you tried the liquid frozen yogurt? I have heard a bit more about that one.. just want to get him setup on the best. Sounds like CM6.1 is going to be released soon too.

Has anyone lost their entire SMS history yet without warning? A couple weeks ago I lost about 2-3k texts and figured it was a bug in Fresh Evo. My buddy just told me tonight he lost about 10k on his stock 2.2 Incredible.nandroid backup was way too old to be useful.Titanium Backup doesn't run nearly enough for it to be effective with SMS.http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/sprite-backup/androidMay schedule this to backup to my dropbox nightly now (Unless I poke around and find Titanium easily does this).
11/12/2010 1:51:28 AM
Android has a habit of dumping texts if you have a large number of them. There's an app in the market called SMS Backup & Restore that is free and you can use it to schedule backups but it doesn't do MMS. MyBackup Pro is $4-5 bucks but can back up pretty much everything.
11/12/2010 8:38:27 AM
^^ I was about to suggest SMS Backup+ as well. You really should have this installed, works in the background flawlessly and creates a SMS folder in your gmail that you can easily search.http://www.appbrain.com/app/sms-backup/com.zegoggles.smssync

This is kinda interesting. I didn't think we'd see an LTE phone so soon. http://phandroid.com/2010/11/11/htc-mecha-aka-incredible-hd-spied-running-on-verizons-lte/Even without LTE, that thing looks like a beast.
11/12/2010 1:53:38 PM
Wonder why it has 3G and 4G in the notification bar. And if it's LTE I doubt we'll see it til next year.
11/12/2010 2:37:09 PM
Yeah I have used SMSBackup in the past when I first started flashing/rooting my Evo and it works well, but as far as 'really should have this installed' goes -- I'm thinking more along the lines of 'this bug really should have been addressed'.
11/12/2010 2:48:54 PM
Verizon still claims LTE is going out next month, so I'd assume they'd want a launch smartphone.
11/12/2010 2:51:18 PM
Seeing as how limited their initial LTE rollout would be, I don't really see why they would want to launch one. They'd have so many people pissed off that they can't use LTE. Plus that article says something about seeing that phone at CES. Isn't that in the spring sometime?
11/12/2010 3:26:59 PM
Think CES is either January or February.http://www.droid-life.com/2010/11/12/rumor-no-lte-phones-coming-to-verizon-this-year-htc-samsung-lg-and-motorola-all-ready-for-2011/

contemplating trading droid-x for samsung fascinate... anyone used both? im thinking with swype i wont need the uber large keyboard.wondering if battery life has improved with froyo on samsung galaxy... it looks like this is so from forums i've read.
11/12/2010 4:56:36 PM
The Fascinate's screen isn't much smaller than the Droid X's.No one knows about battery life with Froyo on the Fascinate because no one with a Fascinate has Froyo. I can't comment on other galaxy phones. That said, I haven't had any battery life issues. I get a solid 36+ hours between charges for my level of use.[Edited on November 12, 2010 at 5:44 PM.
