What, you've never read Hamlet? R&G have more than two lines.
5/10/2006 6:56:33 AM
I've read Hamlet at least thirty times.I know R&G have more than two lines, but tarty said six pages on two lines."Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" is a fairly long play, and it's based solely upon the meager amount of lines the interchangeable idiots have in the real deal. Since R&GaD is essentially a commentary, a similar proportion of writing based upon two lines of Hamlet isn't unreasonable.[Edited on May 10, 2006 at 6:59 AM. Reason : goddamn i can't type]

The average student at NCSU does not have the genius of Tom Stoppard, though.
5/10/2006 7:00:27 AM
Neither do I, but I can fake it like nobody's business.
5/10/2006 7:01:02 AM
But the play consists of them doing... nothing, really, but discussing how absurd everything is. I don't know that Stoppard used the material to create a whole lot of something from nothing, just made more nothing out of nothing. And yeah, what she said.
5/10/2006 7:02:02 AM
I can't decide if I should just email this stuff to him when I'm done or take it to him in person. I guess I'm kind of paranoid that it won't go through correctly. The last question of our exam is really vague and I'm having a hard time even getting started.
5/10/2006 7:05:39 AM
Yeah, no kidding. I picked three and my essay probably sucks, but I went with #2. Something about tragedic beginnings.
5/10/2006 7:08:14 AM
^^^ Ah, but that's the point. That's bungled for sure, but I was not about to dish a lame-ass Shakespeare gag.R&G are beyond absurd. That's why they're funny. Stoppard's play is an homage to Shakespeare's awareness. Granted, if he wrote about them academically (YAWN) it'd be quite a bit shorter, but the point would remain. Now is an excellent time to point out that while Michael Almereyda made an interesting choice in his film by having most of R&G's correspondence with Claudius and Gertrude occur by telephone, he made them sympathetically interchangeable from Gertrude's perspective instead of hilariously bland.Forgive me if I'm distracting you from writing that actually counts for something more than nerd points.[Edited on May 10, 2006 at 7:09 AM. 5/10/2006 7:09:14 AM
wow, suprised yall didnt pick C-1, that seemed a bit easier
5/10/2006 7:09:42 AM
My exam is different since I'm in 17th Century lit. It was between the movement from writing about the external to the internal or the "dissociation of sensibility" which is a phrase that makes no sense to me still.
5/10/2006 7:12:06 AM
^^ Imagery is for wusses. I'm barely coherent at this point, I just keep typing things... Elizabeth I, James IV-->James I, Hamlet, succession, religion, Claudius, death blah blah blah blah blah[Edited on May 10, 2006 at 7:16 AM. Reason : .]
5/10/2006 7:14:36 AM
I just picked up one of my more basic ENG requirements this semester, and since it was a GER there were lots of BUS majors and stuff in it...one of my new friends in there who does environmental shit described the entire English department as a "revelatory bullshit contest." Pretty fucking perceptive, miss.
