I've been doing really well on my diet. I have a protein shake with a cup of blueberries and some greek yogurt mixed in. For lunch I have a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread with an apple and banana. Usually I have hummus as a snack and then a salad for dinner with croutons and carrots and a low calorie dressing. However, yesterday I didn't eat the apple or the hummus, so I don't think I got enough calories since I did an hours worth of cardio. But one day won't kill me and I'll try to do better today.

It's like a personal trainer without the cost. ha Made me do things and push where I wouldn't have on my own. My entire bod is shaking, also pleased that I wasn't the worst one in the class. Yay.

Just curious ... what sports/activities did y'all play growing up? Do you find that fitness is something that has always been a part of your life? Or is fitness newer for you?Diet (Growing Up) Personally, my diet was always terrible. My family just doesn't do healthy eating, for the most part. Thank god I played sports, otherwise I would have been in a sad state.Exercise (Growing Up) Cheerleading, track and swim team in middle school. Tennis, track, swim team and soccer in high school. Tennis was the only constant. In college, it was definitely a bit challenging to adjust diet (unlimited dining hall ice cream) with the change in activity levels. Went from 140 hs weight to 155 by sophomore year of college. Just thought this might be an interesting discussion.

Diet (Growing Up)My mom never kept a lot of junk food in the house. We were allowed 1 soda a day - at dinner and most of the time my brother and I would split the soda. My parents never forced us to eat fruits or veggies so that was seriously lacking for the both of us. We ate a lot of home cooked meals and had granola bars and stuff like that around the house. Exercise (Growing Up)i danced 4-5 days a week from the age of 6 until i was 16. i also played softball for about 4 years and soccer for 1 year. College was a huge obstacle. it was definitely harder to stay healthy. lots of booze, lots of eating out, and on/off periods of hitting the gym. luckily i have a decent metabolism so it wasn't completely horrible. the most i weighed in college was probably 145 pounds but when i graduated i was only 127 pounds (damn you appendicitis!). now i am 137 pounds - goal is to be around 132.

Diet: I lived with my grandparents until I was 7. I was an only grandchild so they spoiled me like WHOA. We had dessert every night, but I was always good about eating my veggies. I was the only one of my friends who enjoyed eating cauliflower, broccoli, and spinach. I also drank Sprite daily. Exercise: Because I was always tall and bigger than everyone my age, I was allowed to join the town sports leagues early. I started soccer at 4 and t-ball at 5. I quit soccer when I was 7 and took up basketball. I also danced (jazz, acrobatics) from age 3 to age 12. I quit when they told me I was too tall and could no longer safely spot me because I was bigger than all the instructors. I played basketball and softball all the way through high school. The Sprite drinking continued, and I always had it in my water bottle during games.College: I didn't exercise at all my freshman year and barely my sophomore year (I just played IM sports and did the elliptical every now and then), but I did switch to diet soda. Junior year I started exercising regularly while studying abroad in Mexico and continued through the rest of college. I only got serious about fitness after graduation.]

Diet Growing Up:It's really funny to look back at it now because my family is now a bunch of health/exercise freaks: mom is a personal trainer who everyone thinks is 40, when she's almost 60...sister is a Crossfit trainer/beast in the gym/high level rugby player...but we pretty much ate like SHIT growing up. I'm talking lunches filled with little debbie cakes, doritos, and hawaiian punch. Breakfast of frosted strawberry pop tarts or some kind of sugary kid cereal (frost flakes, smacks, pops, lucky charms, etc). Sweet tea and sun drop all day every day. When we went to grandma's house it was all fried chicken, brown rice, butter beans, corn bread, etc. I mean...it's only due to genetics that we weren't a bunch of fat fucks. Everyone in my family looks like they are in good shape...even when they aren't.Exercise Growing Up:Probably another reason why I didn't get fat is because I was always playing a sport...lots of soccer (select), basketball, baseball, and track. Only sport I didn't play was football. Rode our bikes everywhere and did nothing but swim during the summer. I mean...I had to do something to burn off all those carbs and sugar I was consuming.I love my mom to death, but I'll never let my kid eat the shit she let me eat. However, in her current state she wouldn't let me eat that shit either. But she's definitely more aware now (there are ZERO sweets back at her house now...it actually kinda sucks).

my family is still like that some. In regards to running, my mom has really gotten on my case for it. Like "why do you need to do this, it's very unbecoming" blah blah. But I really want to be healthier. My family has a history of being obese and having cardiovascular problems. Since about age 24 my metabolism has gone downhill, I can't just eat whatever I want anymore and not exercise and I really like running and it's something I can pretty much do for free.I think I want to look into adult karate classes. Something for fun.

We played outside, mostly kickball, basketball, and football. We didn't have A/C so we sweated out everything in the summer . I packed on the freshman 15 and then some in college. Stayed around 210-215 the whole time and didn't make a change until near the end when I started counting calories and exercising.

Diet (Growing Up)horrid. my mom can't cook to save her life. as a small kid all i remember are moon pies, fun dip, mac and cheese, hot dogs, and red barron mini pizzas. as i got older, my normal breakfast was two honey buns (or two packs of little debbie donut sticks) and a 20oz cherry lemon sun drop. so use that as an indicator. Exercise (Growing Up) played soccer and sucked ass. played baseball and sucked ass. tried skateboarding and sucked ass and hurt myself too much. golf was the only thing i was ever really, really good at. played competitive level golf (travel teams during the summer, then with schools during the season) until i realized about 17 that i'd rather drive to a girl's house and bang out than drive to the links and hit balls and walk around every day. from about 8 years old until then, i spent every day dawn to dusk on the course or on the range. most summer days walking between 45 and 54 holes per day. during school i'd get dropped off at the course. i actually was allowed to ride two busses, one that went by the country club, and one that went to my house. most days i'd just go to the club and i'd have my clubs stored there and golf clothes in my backpack. was on the cc's swim team too, until like 13. most days would be the aforementioned honey buns and sun drop while walking through the dew, sandwiches at lunch, then sandwiches at dinner, all from the club house cafe. about 13 i got into a mountain biking kick. split time between golf and biking. by 18 would routinely log up to 75 miles per day on weekends. we'd trespass and make our own trails all over nash and surrounding counties.by college this went entirely to shit and "exercise" consisted of walking around the disc golf course while tokin'. i could eat whatever the fuck i wanted and drink whatever the fuck i wanted until about 21. then it all went to shit quick when i picked up hardcore gambling as the only form of recreation.

Diet (Growing Up) Diet wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. I'm Italian, so there was a looooot of pasta and pizza every other Friday or so. I LOVED (and still do) spinach, carrots and corn though, so my mom always had those on hand because when your kid loves veggies of any kind, you put them out. I must have eaten spinach and carrots four or five times a week growing up. And I also really loved peaches and plums.There was definitely a fair amount of string cheese, fruit snacks, Chips Ahoy cookies and assorted other snacks though. And soda. Lots of soda. I didn't start drinking water regularly with meals until I was maybe 20. Exercise (Growing Up) I played organized basketball, soccer and baseball, but only baseball continued through high school. But I always had a lot of friends in the neighborhood, so there was a lot of bike riding and just doing outdoors, moronic boy things all day during the summers. It's really only recently that I've started putting exercise and diet together, and the results have been absolutely stunning.

Diet (Growing Up) Shitty. Like begonias, I lived with my grandmother until I was 13, and she spoiled me with "Southern" cooking, and Donut Sticks and honey buns and stuff for breakfast. I was the fat kid. When I hit middle school I started teaching myself to cook, and by maybe junior year of high school I was cooking most of the food for my family because neither of my parents could cook, and if they did it we'd have Hamburger Helper every night. I was a vegetarian since I was pretty young, by my choice, but I subsisted largely on pasta, rice, fries, bread, etc. I naturally lost a bunch of weight around when I hit puberty, but was never thin. Exercise (Growing Up) None. I wasn't athletic at all, always picked last in PE, sucked at running, still suck at catching things. I tried dance when I was a tiny kid but was too uncoordinated, and took karate lessons with my parents when I was like 10, which I wanted to keep doing but they didn't so we stopped. That was it until I got to college and would occasionally go do 20 minutes on an elliptical. Gained 10 pounds at college, lost it, then gained it again around graduation.After college I decided I didn't want to be that way anymore, so I started exercising. Now I exercise a lot and eat really well (the majority of the time). People who have met me assume I never struggled with my weight and was raised into healthy habits, and that annoys me because a lot of times I see them using it as an excuse in a way. "She's just naturally like that (active, normal weight, likes cooking/eating healthy), whereas I'd have to work my ass off/don't have time."

Diet (Growing Up) It was pretty bad growing up. I had pizza and a cookie for lunch each day in high school and then pasta, candy, tons of Cadbury eggs and soft drinks... but I was always a super tiny person because of the below (115 when I graduated high school and I'm 5'5)...Exercise (Growing Up) Competitive gymastics until 10th grade. Cheerleading, cross country, track and golf and I was in the marching band (carrying a base drum) so that was a workout as well. hahaI gained a little bit of weight in college maybe 10 lbs but it wasn't too bad because I lived in Wood and had to walk all over campus all the time.After college, I met my husband pretty much right away and we got in to the habit of Chinese food, Italian food, fast food, etc and I put on weight quickly... then I lost it all and then some right before our wedding, gained it back after we got married and now I've lost 13 lbs again. haha I still have about 5 lbs to get back to where I was when we got married. I am a size 6 right now and in the 130s though so it's hard to be motived. It's funny, I get to a certain weight... and I'm like.. HELL NO! And the motivation returns. I got my blood test results and they were negative... but let me just say, that doctor was such an asshole. He kept treating me like an idiot and made some general statement like, "You could be a person who doesn't handle carbohydrates well" so I asked him why I felt better with fruit Then he claimed it could only be lactose intolerance... He was trying to say some shit about how I should cut out milk, ice cream, and butter but "cheese isn't that bad" for people who are lactose intolerant. He also said they "ruled out" celiac by the blood test - but from my research it is not uncommon at all to have a negative blood test but positive biopsy. I'm just so upset that I waited that long to see a doctor who really doesn't give a what... I understand I could not have celiac, but that doesn't mean I can't have a gluten intolerance or even a gluten allergy that would work in a different way than celiac. And I'm not ruling out the lactose thing either - but to say it's ONLY that? Not buying it. Especially when I had such a bad reaction to that cupcake on Sunday and it barely had any milk (less than 1/4 cup for the entire recipe)Anyway, I called a different place here (with a doctor that has amazing reviews) and guess when my appointment is? Next Thursday. No waiting two months this time... and the lady I'm seeing apparently sees lots of people with food allergies so it seems like THIS TIME I'll be in good hands./rantAnd now my eyes are all puffy I should have read the multiple reviews similar to this one:

Diet (Growing Up) Absolutely terrible. I ate like a pig. My parents actually postively reinforced my overeating. They're doing the same thing with my sister, and it pisses me off. There was never a time when we didn't have multiple boxes of little debbies/bags of chips/ice cream. I somehow never got overweight though. This has definitely made it harder to restrict my diet.Exercise (Growing Up) Played lots of sports until high school. Started working when I was 15 so there was no time (school from 8-3, work from 4-10). Gained 20 lbs my soph year after I got my loan money. Lost it in about a month when I started a manual labor job. Diet (growing up)- My mom's cooking was horrible consisting of boxed dinners, caseroles, over-cooked veggies, with steak, hamburgers, and spaghetti as part of the weekly rotation. I always ate the stuff but I never liked it. Debbie snack cakes, shasta soda, chips, ice cream, cereal, hotdogs and various baked goods, I was destined to be a fatty. I found out I was a type 1 diabetic at 14 and had to change that diet for sure. For the longest time they had a little fridge for me so that they could keep eating all that shit.Exercise (growing up)- I played basketball for most of my younger years, soccer for 1 year in high school, and softball/basketball in middle school. I always was running around with my older brother Ian because we were in the country and had nothing else to do so I think that kept me from being overweight.In college, I barely ever had money to eat so my diet was limited (horrible for my diabetes!! An excellent reason to say yes to dates ) and I would take PE classes every year (ultimate, water aerobics, dance, basic PE class), and worked out at Carmichael. Diet (growing up) - My mom worked long hours so we had a lot of fast food. I ate a lot of cereal, grits, hot dogs, and chips from what I remember. When she did cook she tried to make it as healthy as possible. Dad, who was morbidly obese, would always complain about the healthy food though. I refused to eat veggies as a kid and would spit them out and cry every time. I drank only soda and would dehydrate if she took them away from me. Exercise (growing up)- I was pretty active all my life. I did softball, ballet, jazz, tap, gymnastics and played football with my brother and his friends. I also rode my bike and walked all over my small town. In 4th grade my teacher was too lazy to go outside with us so instead of recess we had parties and ate junk food. I gained a lot of weight and didn't lose it until 7th grade. I was the fat kid and got picked on accordingly. I think that's why I still freak out about my weight and I don't want to be a 6x like my dad was when I was growing up.

Diet: It was very nutritious. Absolutely no junk food (with the exception of a Nutrigrain bar for breakfast or something). But the lunches my mother packed for me were so undesirable that I wouldn't eat them. And once I got home from after school care, I was very hungry, and I'd eat a lot of food (like a bunch of grapes, 2 apples, 4 handfuls of baby carrots, and 3 oranges as a snack) and then I'd eat dinner on top of that "snack." So I'd still be full at lunch the next day, which is why it was so easy for me to skip it (or just eat the apple out of it). Additionally, we ate out more and more as I got older.So I was basically in continuous daily training for disordered eating.Exercise: Active throughout my childhood...until high school when sports got competitive, and I stopped playing them, and obviously, nobody wanted to like run around outside and play anymore.[Edited on September 7, 2011 at 8:59 PM. Fast food late at night whateve nutrition was of little concern to me, i just had to have meat on my plate didnt concern myself with a balanced diet and vegetables, even through college. Id walk through the dining halls plate piled wih meats and anything potato (i loooove potatoes) and of course sides. O, and I would definitely favor a big portion to a good, well prepared meal. Didnt eat too many sweets though.Exercise: I have never not been active since like 4th grade, even before then i was ALWAYS outside, be it playing in the woods, wrestlin with friends playin "power rangers" n shit, etc...always always always outside it was just where i wanted to be. Played little league football and baseball, then straight to middle school wrestling in 7th grade, 8th grade played started playin football again in addition to wrestling. 9th grade -11th grade it was wrestling and football, 12 grade i added track and field. Up to this point i didnt workout at any time other than when in front of a coach, except for weight cutting before meets, like running and wearing crazy layers while working out. For a brief brief period in 12 grade I kinda tried to do power lifting competitions, but i felt it was lifting for no purpose so i quit and focused on wrestling. Plus i honestly wasnt very good at it.College was track as a freshman, football and track as a sophomore, plus i started playing flag football every week while on the football team which was fun. My Junior and Senior years just did track and field. In college I did a bunch of my own workouts between cardio and weight training stuff i got assigned during summer by the football program, and track stuff. Did my own running and shit too. In college i feel like my diet was worse than ever, but I just id so much shit, plus walking about campus i must have had a sky high metabolism. But at the same time no matter how much weight i lost i never got ripped, I am pretty sure thats due to diet.Anyway, now I fight primarily doing boxing, muay thai, wrestling, jiu jitsu, and catch wrestling. I also play alot of softball. My diet is definitely alot more controlled, and about 60 percent of my exercise is actually on my own and not coach directed. since leaving college and changing my diet I am always within reach of being "ripped" with merely a couple of weeks of a solid diet. I do alot of lifting and a lot of cardio. Salads are the vast majority of my diet (most times...unless im broke lol). I also focus on fiber and not so much carbs and calories. I try to avoid most juices and shitty carbs most times, but im a sucker for sweet tea and a coke. Also, to note, throughout my life i have never been one to shy away from a pick up game of football or a little tussle or horseplay. Even basketball id jump in and get son'd by niggas, so i dont think i have ever been too far out of shape do be hindered by anything, i could pick up hard training fast. I think thats kind of important to maintaining healthsorry for the long post, kinda therapeutic looking back on the health practices of yore

I did the shake, I also do eggs for bfast most days and then turkey, tuna, chicken for lunch and then whatever for dinner.I've noticed the mornings I eat eggs my energy crashes around 11am. Sometimes I take another oxyelite pill to get me up, the mornings I eat cereal I am fine. My damn body is addicted to sugar. How does one ween itself from sugar?

^^ a cleanse can help you kick sugar cravings. Or just avoid sugar completely for a week or two. I find that a week is generally enough to make me forget about certain foods.On a related note, I'm going booze-free until 9/24, which is when I have a 15k race. Thinking I'll have a post-race bloody mary as a treat. a coworker of my mine brought me a surprise cheeseburger and fries after I had already finished my morning star chili, so I felt obligated to at least eat the fries. I only ate like 1/3 of them but I already feel bloated and sick. What was I thinking? my body isn't used to eating this stuff anymore
