Or, y'know, every American soccer fan who was disappointed that he'd rather rule the roost in comfy ol' SoCal than actually test his skills against the world's best (in any European league) and become a better player.

^Well no matter what people are upset about, I'll still take him over Eddie Johnson in the lineup.

"I think most of the hate towards him comes from people who are fans of the EPL and are just pissed that he didn't even have any interest in playing for their favorite bandwagon team (Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool) and chose to play for LA instead."

Lol, I have no reservations about Donovan not playing for my favorite team, United. He wouldn't get into the first 11 anyway. He wouldn't get into the first 11 of Chelsea, Arsenal, or City. I also love how you categorize every fan of the top teams as bandwagon. Let me know when you hold a season ticket mate, even for a MLS team. The hate comes from EPL fans because what Donovan did is just not something you do in Europe or South America. The USMNT would set a fine example by shutting the door on players who quit on their team. The US can do just fine without him, its time they realized it.

Great article on the state of youth development in US soccer. It really gives me hope for the future now that they are starting to finally get some organization between scouting and academies. Definitely worth the read.

and right when you start getting hopeful about the future, the U-17s fail to qualify for the World Cup

Can someone with a deeper knowledge than me give a scouting report on Josh Gatt? He's looked super fast whenever I've seen him. Does he have a future with us?

^^ I mean, they did really well at the U-17 World Cup like 5-6 years ago and now none of those players have broken through. I don't think it means much. Most of the stuff you hear about youth development is stuff like, "We should focus on developing technique and skill and not so much on getting the biggest and strongest kids to whoop up on other kids and win a bunch of stuff." If we never qualify for another youth World Cup again and start producing quality players it will totally be worth it.

oh no, I agree it's not the end of the world. Mexico winning U-17 World Cups isn't directly translating to domination at the next level right now either. I think we have a lot of talented young players coming through too.

^^ I've only seen him for the US but from what I've read, his game is all about utilizing that speed. He, like Brek Shea has shown in flashes, is one of the few players in our pool that can take defenders on 1v1. I believe he was called up for a WCQ last year but he got hurt. And he was in preseason in January/February with his club team so I'm guessing that's why he wasn't called up for the recent games.

If he's healthy, he will definitely be a part of WCQs this year. I'd be shocked if he wasn't on the roster in 2014. I know US fans/media like to hype up the next big thing, but Gatt seems legit to me, anyway.

Anyone going to the US vs. Belgium match in Cleveland on the 29th? Tickets go on sale on the 19th I believe. A good test for the US. Young Belgian team, would love to see Fellaini, Kompany, Vermaelen, Hazard, and Benteke play. Hopefully they bring them along, and Defour and Witsel as well. If only this was on a weekend, would have loved to go.

That Belgian first team squad is better than England's, and they have underachieved in the last few years but they should be at the World Cup next year as long as they don't screw it up against Croatia. If you were trying to troll unfortunately it didn't work.

I was gonna go, but I'm already going to Seattle on the 11th vs Panama.

I'll be in Vegas before hand, so I'm going to put money on the game to make it even more exciting.

We kept a clean sheet in Azteca two months ago. We'll be okay.

Shit game tho. Kljestan needs to fuck off for good.

^ because you wouldn't get destroyed by Germany either? And by you, of course I mean those that play for England

funny aimorris. I wouldn't want to go with a pool fan anyway.

Beasley is absolutely terrible. The only one that shouldn't be ashamed in defense is Gonzalez. Need Bradley in midfield. Does the US team seriously not have any decent right backs?

Beasley isn't a LB. Our LB/RB options are hurt. And yes, Bradley is hands down the best player on our team.
