7/16/2010 8:04:38 AM
not sure if anyone's had any problem finding ammunition lately, but walmart at briar creek was pretty well stocked when i went in yesterday. talked to the cashier who said they were just starting to get to the point of having ample stock on a consistent basis. just an fyi who may still be looking.
7/16/2010 8:13:25 AM
Now just tell them to lower their prices ($18.47 for a 550 bulk pack of Federal .22 is ridiculous) and we can all benefit.Keep buying at these prices, and they'll stay. Stop buying and prices will go down.
7/16/2010 10:12:36 AM
almost time to pick up a case of dove loads. can't wait!
7/16/2010 12:22:58 PM
looking at a remington 700 VTR in .22-250 for $625. i'd probably move my leupold vx-III 4.5-14x50 long range to it from my .30-06 and get a cheaper 3-9x scope (probably nikon) since i'll be hunting mostly in the woods this year and won't need that much scope in there.opinions?
7/16/2010 9:39:38 PM
just bought a new mossberg 500....going to shoot it in the morning
7/16/2010 10:50:26 PM
after doing some reading, i don't think the VTR is what i need. probably gonna go with a savage 12 in .22-250. either the FV or FCV or FVSS.
7/17/2010 3:20:29 AM
I like Savage.
7/17/2010 7:31:30 AM
i checked out my coworker's savage and the accu-trigger felt really good
7/17/2010 12:57:13 PM
can anyone recommend a heatshield with ghost ring sight for the Mossberg? i am a relative n00b. something like this?http://www.combathunting.com/MOSSBERG-DELUXE_SHOTGUN_HEATSHIELD_WITH_GHOST_RING_SIGHTS.html

Glock 37 (45 GAP) is on sale for $379 at budsgunshop. That's $62 less than the GSSF price--and no membership or shipping fees.http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=411538439

^^i would advise you to consider that one day your home defense shotgun may be held up in court as evidence to portray you as a lunatic killer to a jury of your (uninformed) peers who do not realize that such modifications are simply cosmetic. put whatever tacticool stuff you want on your gun, but i don't think enough people think about such a scenario. i guess i just think of a home defense shotgun with a very utilitarian view.[Edited on July 17, 2010 at 10:51 PM. Reason : picked up some CCI Stingers for the squirrels today ]
7/17/2010 10:50:11 PM
well, i just noticed how hot the barrel got after only 30 rounds or so yesterday and i plan on taking it shooting it often...the heat shield is more than cosmetic to me. but i get your point [Edited on July 18, 2010 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ,,]
7/18/2010 12:04:28 PM
This is an iffy point. My HD Shotgun is an old 870 Police with wood furniture....however, if you are involved in a shooting in your home, having followed the letter of the law, #1 Why would you be in front of a jury and #2 Why would it matter what your gun looked like? Sometimes I feel the prevailing attitude on gun forums is over-paranoia.
7/18/2010 12:09:09 PM
#1 is valid#2...there's the way things should be, and the way things are.
7/18/2010 12:28:25 PM
True. People watch too much television, and a jury of your peers is anything but.
7/18/2010 6:33:24 PM
you may not find yourself in front of a criminal law jury, but you may very well find yourself getting sued in a civil suit. In that event, a liberal judge and a slick attorney on the plaintiff's side could cause you a world of grief for making modifications to your weapon.

Do you guys think glock 39s go for significantly cheaper (new or used) than the 30s or 36s due to the relative obscurity of the cartridge? I hand load so I've got no problem with the GAP. Anyone have any idea what they go for used? Gunbroker has too few example to be of much help.
7/20/2010 10:31:07 PM
judging by the price on glock 37's at Buds, I'd say they're less new or used in a shop. I could see them being more private party or via online forum though. Those that have them seem to enjoy them and they're hard(er) to find so I'd imagine there might be some kind of premium for them with those that love them.
7/20/2010 10:55:22 PM
finally got my 10/22's trigger assembly back together and working. went through 4 safety springs and on the 5th one I ended up cutting it in half. ha my advice to anyone with a 10/22... don't ever remove the safety! and hope yours doesn't fuck up.

Question: In NC, is an employer legally allowed to ban guns from a locked car in their parking lot?I know this has been addressed in some states by court decisions and specific legislation (always in favor of the carrier, that I've seen), but I can't find anything for NC.
7/22/2010 3:52:30 PM
If they own or lease the property they can do whatever they want.
7/22/2010 4:09:43 PM
^I'd have to see something to agree to that. In NC, it must be posted so if they don't have the entrance to their parking lot posted, then they can't legally ban it. Even if it's inside the business itself, you wouldn't be breaking the law if the business isn't posted. You might lose your job for breaking company policy but that's different than the law.
7/22/2010 9:23:38 PM
7/24/2010 1:12:25 AM
^So it would seem that would apply to an employee who has been told about it, but not a visitor who hasn't if there is no sign. This can really affect a concealed carrier. If you obey the rules, you are pretty much disarmed the entire way to/from work and any time connected to those without making a special trip home to get your weapon. This is why some states have specifically banned employers from doing this. Oh well. I've been parking off-site and walking the extra few hundred yards each day. Nobody knows why. But it's better than risking getting fired from a job I LOVE, and it's better than being totally disarmed. I can't just carry at work anyway - first, because I have principles, and second, because I pass through metal detectors
7/24/2010 2:26:36 AM
^^ Well damn. I thought the verbal part was worded differently for some reason. My bad.

^lol, awesome. Although from the description, all could have been avoided if she had just locked the door behind her (she was apparently dropping stuff off before going back out for one last trip). It amazes me how many people leave their doors unlocked. If I'm just going in to grab a drink while doing work outside, I'll lock the door.
7/29/2010 8:27:34 AM
so....looking at the glock 29anyone with any hands on experience?yes, i said 29yes, 10mm
7/29/2010 3:26:06 PM
7/29/2010 5:33:49 PM
A gentleman at the range was gracious enough to let me shoot his 10mm, it was a blast. However he stood behind me to catch the brass 10mm just sounds manly.
7/29/2010 7:42:22 PM
Why a 10mm over a .40cal?
7/29/2010 8:23:30 PM
some people love 10mm...its a pretty solid caliber imo, but the ammo is much less common than .40, which is why I have a couple .40s and no 10mms
7/29/2010 9:44:06 PM
^^Because the ballistics speak for themselves. The 10mm is a monster man-stopper, where the .40 is simply a reasonably effective neutered version of that same cartridge, designed to fit into a 9mm size frame.
7/30/2010 9:24:08 AM
I want the 10mm for the power and....just because!Ive been trying to decide on the subcompact that I want for a while, strictly for concealed purposes. So other than putting some rounds down range every once in a while, I dont plan to do a lot of shooting with this gun. Since ammo prices arent going to be a determining factor, why not get a slightly more expensive caliber, especially when the numbers speak for themselves. Plus, as a concealed choice, the (hopefully never) chance of it coming out will likely mean that it is coming out to do some damage. And I dont want to take any chances of the hole it produces not being enough to deter someone from continuing to threaten me or mine. (not saying that a .40 wouldnt do the job at all, but ya know)
7/30/2010 9:34:50 AM
7/30/2010 2:04:59 PM
this is all saying that a 9mm won't do the job... I feel like a personal defense load of 9mm will accomplish exactly what I want to do (especially if my gun is holding 17+1)it really does come down to what you are comfortable with thoughI will say that I don't like the idea of a .22 as a personal defense weapon... I also don't think a desert eagle is very practical either. That being said, there are a lot of different guns in between those two extremes that will serve the purpose. Hell, I consider my .38 and my 9mm very different guns (despite the similar size in projectile/caliber), but as long as I had one or the other, I feel comfortable enough with both to be confident in my own chances at survival
7/30/2010 7:18:46 PM
Just picked up a marlin 917vs this morning. I've only put about 10 rounds through it, but I am loving it so far. What's the effective range of a .17hmr anyway?
7/31/2010 9:01:11 PM
At 300 yds for Hornady V-max 17 hmr you'll have 35 inches of drop and about 1000 fps velocity
8/1/2010 2:58:05 AM
Not a hunter myself, but I figure a good amount of yall are, so here are some new laws that were passed:
8/2/2010 12:13:08 PM
wOOt...picked up my new S&W M&P15 Optics Ready AR-15 from CDNN for $599 the other day. Topped it with a eabco.com closeout...a Hawke Optics 3-9x40 with the ballistic drop compensator. Also, picked up a .22lr conversion kit for it, so when I am done shooting 5.56, I can switch to .22LR.
8/2/2010 10:15:20 PM
Holy shit, that's about $100 less than I paid for my DPMS lower and Del-Ton upper. Was it new?
8/2/2010 10:40:05 PM
Yeah, CDNN is running a deal. Buy it for $699 and you get a $100 mail in rebate. And about the .17hmr...I had one, loved it. HOWEVER, any *TINY* breath of wind blows that little shit off course. I killed several crows at 150, but missed many more due to wind. I quickly found the limits and sold it. Great round, but you must need to know how to read the wind better than me.
8/2/2010 10:43:03 PM
Hell of a deal...
8/2/2010 10:48:09 PM
^^ Do you have a link for that deal? I'd be real interested in picking one up for that price.Scratch that, I found it.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 9:12 AM. Reason : 0]

carried with my crossbreed for the first time today and i was pleased. just wish it didn't have the crosses and stuff on it.
8/3/2010 3:35:14 PM
They are quite comfortable. Are you wearing the full size? I played with one on the range, and didn't like the way it interfered with my draw, if you present after hackathorn rip sometimes you can't come out with a good grip, and you really shouldn't be screwing around with the grip after the draw. If I order one I think I'll try the combat cut, but I've definitely heard good things and I liked the feel of the holster.
