I hate to be the one to bring ants to the picnic, but I don't think we will experience any palpable shifts to the status quo until something truly horrific happens that affects the vast majority of people. It's very easy for the average person to just change the channel or ignore their newsfeed on Facebook when this type of 'ugly' stuff come up, because those are the same types of people who either didn't vote at all in the election, held their noses and voted Trump because they thought they'd get a bigger refund on their income taxes, or they voted against Hillary because they wanted it all to crash and burn or entertain them like a reality TV show. Mass shootings happen regularly here, and "small" level terror attacks popping up all over Europe haven't changed the status quo one bit, and yet people seem to think that "organizing" or "taking firm stances" will bring us closer together? Nah.
8/15/2017 8:55:18 PM
I hope you are not right about that
8/15/2017 9:03:57 PM
^^ I don't think you're wrong. But we're inching closer to that horrific event/series of events. And these guys are obsessed with Timothy McVeigh. And of course, the only reason why Charlottesville wasn't worse is because he didn't know there was another car to stop his from running over more peopleBut none of the acts you mentioned ever had the approval of the president. These people were just given the green light to commit more of these acts without repercussion. THAT'S the terrifying part. Any future protests for leftist causes (occupy, BLM, Dakota Access Pipeline, Daca, Women's Marches, Muslim Ban protests, Black Churches, Muslim Mosques, etc) are now open targets for white nationalist terrorism[Edited on August 15, 2017 at 9:21 PM. ^^I'm only 32 years old, but I can count the number of incidents where I feared for both my immediate and long term safety in the United States on one hand. The first was the OKC bombing, the second was 9/11, the third was when I was in high school and the DC sniper shootings were taking place so close to my hometown, and the latest was the day that Donald Trump got elected.^ TBF, the green light was given way before Trump even won. The fact that Trump even had a chance in the first place should have been a HUGE wake up call to everyone to not be complacent or naive. NOPE. Pussy grabber beat Crooked Hillary bigly!!1[Edited on August 15, 2017 at 9:15 PM. Reason : I hope I'm wrong too]
8/15/2017 9:12:19 PM
Yes, but previous administrations (even Republican) knew to at least pay lip service to the victims of domestic terrorist attacksThat line had never been crossed before
8/15/2017 9:19:29 PM
Previous administrations weren't comprised of a bankrupt narcissistic reality TV show host and a cabinet filled will the lowest common denominator of Wall Street slime ball cronies. I loathed George W. Bush, but I wouldn't think twice about re-electing for a third term over Trump. I guess I'm out of reasons to be optimistic at this point, because I just can't picture a lightbulb going off in America's collective mind without a devastating economic collapse or widespread and obtrusive bloodshed needed flip the on switch [/dramatic]
8/15/2017 9:27:43 PM
Buddy......I wasn't being optimistic
8/15/2017 9:29:01 PM
I'm agreeing with you that we don't have the collective willpower to push back.I'm also convinced that things will get MUCH worse

I have to wonder if this is just kind of a smokescreen to divert attention from the Russia shit...probably...but maybe I give the orange troll too much credit.
8/16/2017 8:35:19 AM
@synapse - Holy shit that reads like something I would expect to see from a DPRK press release. It is sad, funny and scary all at the same time.
8/16/2017 8:46:01 AM
Perhaps, the simplest reason is the most likely. Donald Trump sympathizes with white supremacists because he believes that they have superior genes and are a master race (as he has publicly stated time and again about himself and his German genes). It's not a smokescreen. It's not politics. It's not strategy. It is who he is and what he believes.

I think Trump could resign under these circumstances. He cant stand the job anymore. We know he doesn't like it.He cant stand the pressure. He must protect his son and/or son in law from charges. Resigning would be specifically to result in that protection. The evidence from the Mueller report starts to become overwhelming. Before its public?Hes lost all ability to push his agenda.Republicans and Congress start to do their own thing without looking to the President for any support.

8/18/2017 12:17:08 PM
Word is Steve Bannon is out at the WH. What does that mean for the administration?
8/18/2017 12:53:50 PM
Didn't like Bannon. Hated his views on Islam, race, culture and immigration as a whole. But he was an economic populist and vehemently against nation-building.I hope his departure doesn't basten Trump's move toward his instinct of authoritarianism.
8/18/2017 1:12:40 PM
He was on his way out anyway, but the timing of this is so predictable. It's basically a ploy to distract everyone from Charlottesville by getting rid of the most powerful person standing in his way who happens to have Alt-right ties. It gives Trump a bit of plausible deniability about endorsing KKK/Nazi rhetoric at the time he probably needs it the most.
8/18/2017 1:25:12 PM
Trump's can't survive a Breitbart war. And it sure sounds like it's coming if you read quotes from people close to Bannon. If he loses Breitbart and Cernovich all he has left is the Spencer types. It's gonna get ugly..

I think the whole Breitbart going to war with Trump business has been a bit overblown. I mean, if they alienate Trump supporters, who do they have left?
8/18/2017 2:18:33 PM
If they followed Trump because Brietbart told them to, and then Brietbart goes to war with Trump you think they'll choose Trump over Brietbart?
8/18/2017 2:38:39 PM
I suppose Breitbart/Bannon did represent the economic populism side of Trumpism. Without that he's just left with bog standard Republicans who already hate him.
8/18/2017 3:00:01 PM
It's not like Trump really had a mandate or agenda of his own, other than promoting himself. Now that everybody who influenced his "agenda" while running for office is leaving, maybe so will his followers.

trump has brought more progress in 8 months than the totality of american history. its 2017confederates are finally losing grip on the south and out west, people are questioning the legacy of the catholic spanish conquestsat this rate. we might end segregation by 2024. dare i dream.progress on all fronts actually:the left had been happy bombing the shit out of muslims but since trump, they have decided they want to be neighbors with the same people they made into refugees.under obama, americans were happy to deport millions and even wanted a wall but only now they are speaking out paasionately against it [Edited on August 19, 2017 at 5:09 PM.
