Everybody knows the deal next year. Young team, no post presence. The question is whether he can turn them into a bubble team or whether they reside in the bottom of the ACC. I see it as a litmus test because the team will be made up exclusively of players he recruited (plus Vandy), and if they still play terrible on D and stupid at the end of games, well, then we'll know that Gottfried is the culprit.

if we lose to Indiana (or Temple), I think there is a legit change that Brown and/or Leslie come back for their senior year...in which case we wouldn't be as young as you think

Yeah, I don't see what's wrong with calling next year a litmus test. The test doesn't mean that he only passes if we win a couple of games in the tourney. We just need to stay respectable so we can keep recruiting and not fade away into irrelevance for the millionth time.

^^^Meh, no one is saying that. But if we end up in the ACC cellar right after a year where we underachieved with a loaded (for us) roster, it doesn't bode well for the future.

Yeah, if Brown and Leslie come back, then they either hate money or are really really stupid.

Zero chance. Historically weak draft and both are gone.. as they should be.

Why does everyone assume we will suck next year? We already have at least 7 talented players lined up with several more scholarship spots available.

Even with Brown and Leslie leaving, we should still be a bubble team next year. No excuses unless we had a bad injury or two.

The talent is definitely there.

We desperately need an Oriakhi or Harrell situation.

i'm not thinking we will suck

but the newcomers to the ACC will make it even harder to compete for a title than this past 'down' year

i'm just worried about the obvious, our front court. Vandenburg and two freshmen, who are talented high school players but have never played a college game. And there doesn't seem to be any big-men left to recruit who would make an impact next season. hopefully the coaches are still pursuing a few that we're unaware of.

All I meant by litmus test was to see if we have something special with Gott. We already know we've got something good. Making the dance losing a minimum 4 starters would be outstanding.

just because Brown and Leslie will be drafted if they go pro doesn't mean its in their best financial interest to

some mocks have them going late 1st round, some have them going early 2nd

late 1st round picks are basically guaranteed about $2 million, 2nd round picks arent guaranteed anything

and since its a weak draft, you have to think other players who had better years will declare

the big money is in the top-10 or top-15 picks, which neither of them will be

if they have good tournaments, even if its just 2 games worth, it could boost their stock, but they're not the only players considering going pro

hell, I have yet to see a mock draft that projects Larkin, and i'm pretty sure he's gone

not holding my breath on either Brown or Leslie staying, but it wouldn't shock me since they could easily boost their stock for next year and get much better money

Next year's ACC will be similar to this year's ACC with the exception of Miami losing a ton.

Duke will probably be better, but they were already ahead of us anyways.

UNC only gets better if everyone comes back (not happening), and they get Wiggins (definitely not a sure thing). Macadoo and Bullock are gone with the possibility of Hairston as well (please please please!).

The rest of the ACC will improve a little bit, but not much.

We should be in the top 5 or 6 of the ACC next year with who we having coming back. Definitely a bubble team.

I just saw CJ and Brown projected as 49 and 39 respectively. If they leave while holding those spots on the big board they are idiots...especially leslie. That's bottom half of the second round.

How often have guys came back after almost entering the draft....and then come back for another year after that??? I just don't think it happens that much. Once you're in the mindset that its your last year...its hard to turn back. Add to it that you probably don't give a shit about school and let your grades drop too low and/or stop going to class. Then there's the pride factor of people saying, "you're going to come back again??"

I'm just saying...it doesn't happen that much. That's why I expect guys like CJL and Macadoo to go (and Brown to a lesser extent since it was rumored he was looking at the draft last year).

Personally...I hope they ball the fuck out and get us to the Final Four and then get picked in the lottery. But I realize that's unlikely.

One thing that I was reminded of last night on "Survive and Advance" was that Ralph Sampson was the College POY his sophomore and junior seasons, and still came back for his senior season before being drafted #1.

I can't even imagine that happening today. An athletic 7'4" player with perimeter skills? No way in hell. I wouldn't even risk going to college/overseas and potentially getting injured. I'd just do magazine covers and Nike commercials for a year before getting drafted #1 overall.

Duke spent the entire season ranked in the AP top 10, and finished # 1 RPI. They'll be really good, but they'll be younger and I really don't see them being better next year after losing seniors like Curry, Kelly, and Plumlee. They do get Dawkins and Hood back, and add Jabari Parker and Matt Jones. One thing is for sure - they'll be deep as hell. They'll have 12 scholarship players that are ALL 4 and 5-star recruits.

Gottfried is now the first coach in NC State's storied basketball history, and only the third in the 60-year history of the ACC for all schools, to take his first two teams to the "Big Dance." This year's squad has already recorded a 24-10 record, its highest win total in 30 years.

We're back to where we were under Herb. For his first year, just making the tourney is enough. I gave Gott some shit, but this is as pleased as I've been with State BBall since the Sweet 16 run in 04-05 season. With that said, goals for next year to get us back on track:

1. Win the fucking Big 10+2 challenger game
2. Beat Duke/unc at least once
3. Bye in the ACC conference tourney
4. Make the ACC title game
5. Round of 32 or better NCAAs

Let's keep the ball rolling, Gottfather

1. Win the fucking Big 10+2 challenger game N (but gave a good game)
2. Beat Duke/unc at least once Y
3. Bye in the ACC conference tourney N (vs #12 VT is basically a bye, but hurts to not have fresh legs)
4. Make the ACC title game N (lost to champion)
5. Round of 32 or better NCAAs TBD

looking good so far about average

Don't forget Quinn Cook...I think he was a big surprise this year. He had a few duds, but he looked great in other games. People are saying great things about Ojeleye as well.

I just thinking having that go-to guy in Parker is going to make a big difference. And they'll be deep as fuck.

Also anyone know if Amile will be ruled eligible again for the NCAAs? Sucks he couldn't play the last few games..

because he's good at recruiting whcih would be magnified at ucla. We all know that coaching doesn't matter when you reach a certain talent differential which is why we are in the tournament right now but also why we lose to every talented team we play.

we beat Duke and UNC, they (even without Ryan Kelly) have just as many McDs All Americans as we do

granted, we split with both of them, but that just goes to show how important homecourt advantage can be, and we have just as passionate a fanbase as UCLA

plus the Pac-12 sucks dick, why would he want to go there
