Peacemaker is average at best. Sweet Josie though, is the Tits-McGillicutty. Easily beats out Workingman's Lunch and Bad Penny for Best Triangle Area Brown Ale.Anyone care to nominate a contender for Best Triangle Area IPA? My vote goes to Raleigh Brewing's House of Clay.

Foothills just announced the release date of their Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate. September 7th. 8am.Anyone planning on being there? I have a buddy in Florida that really wants me to ship him some so I'm gonna try to get my hands on a few bottles.
8/20/2013 4:14:26 PM
it's always a fun time. i'm out of the beer buying game for the most part but i may still try to drag Restricted over there.
8/20/2013 5:19:26 PM
The new batch of Stone Enjoy By IPA is out, I snagged some bottles from Tasty Beverage. They had probably 10 cases of it but I imagine it's flying off the shelves.
8/20/2013 6:28:55 PM
Are any of you guys into Flemish "Sour" Ales? If so, I have 6 bottles I'd like to get rid of. Definitely not my thing.
8/20/2013 10:21:10 PM
heck yea, unfortunately i'm not local to NC
8/21/2013 1:46:50 AM
^ what do you have?
8/21/2013 8:38:42 AM
Actually, I have 7. Pictured here...I would LOVE to trade for some stuff I do like, but either way, I hate to waste beer.
8/21/2013 10:24:46 AM
^x5 thanks for the heads up about enjoy by. picked up 2 bombers, a 12 oz of Bell the oracle, and a 4 pack of founders double trouble.[Edited on August 21, 2013 at 10:18 PM. Reason : 5?]
8/21/2013 10:17:09 PM
love quality bargain beers. Picked up a few Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate today. $3 each. Good price even for that.
8/27/2013 8:42:27 PM
can't drink that stuff. feel like i'm drinking diabetus
8/27/2013 9:42:18 PM
I don't drink it on a regular basis, but I like it for what it is and especially at the price. Also, my father-in-law loved the one I let him try before so I figured I'll bring at least one of them with me on a future visit.Things like ST Creme Brulee or ST Choklat or this...I only have them once in awhile and really only a single glass or so but I definitely enjoy them as "dessert" beers.[Edited on August 27, 2013 at 10:24 PM. I fucking love heavy stouts and porters. I love the Choklats/Crème Brulee stouts as well...but mostly as desert beers...definitely not with any entrée and definitely not during the middle of the summer. All that being said...having a few Enjoy Bys this evening. Defuckinglicious.
8/28/2013 5:24:02 PM
all my heavy stouts are certainly being saved for cooler weather. I tend to buy them year round just to stock up as I see things I like. Also, I've been meaning to try Enjoy By
8/28/2013 6:01:40 PM
I'm picky with my IPAs...but I could drink this shit all day, every day. Its lovely.
8/28/2013 6:09:22 PM
did anyone see Lagunitas DayTime Fractional IPA anywhere this summer? I swear it never made it here this year.
8/28/2013 6:49:50 PM
Man...I had two Enjoy bys the other night. Had a great night.I too am a huge heavy stout/porter fan. Stocking up for cold weather now. It's going to be a horribly caloric winter. I have...2 Westbrook Mexican Cake2 Evil Twin Even More Jesus3 Evil Twin Biscotti Break (if you like ST Creme Brulee find this one)4 Evil Twin Lil' B3 Stone Russian Imp Stout3 Stone Espresso Russian Imp Stout7 Cigar City Marshal Zhukovs10 Terrapin Wake 'N Bake left over from last yearAnyone going to the Foothills BB aged Sexual Chocolate release?
8/28/2013 8:36:24 PM
I didn't like the biscotti break for some reason. Wish I could remember why, because I was really pumped about it. I honestly couldn't finish it.
8/28/2013 9:21:35 PM
my normally bar cabinet is overflowing with beer atm. I'm starting to take up kitchen cabinets I guess I need to start drinking faster haha. I have tons of stouts and belgians saved up for the fall and winter though - that's when I really start to burn through them.
8/28/2013 10:24:46 PM
that was me. then i got fat and realized i was spending way too much $ on beer.
8/28/2013 10:37:57 PM
You guys got me excited about the enjoy by but I got a pint last night and was not impressed. Maybe its one of the rare brews that are better in the bottle than tapped but there were several people that were not very impressed (maybe they got a bad keg or something?). I did get the chance to try Stone's Farking Wheaton WootStout. That was good enough for 2 pints with dinner. I seriously wish they'd hurry with the growler regs so I could have taken one home.
8/29/2013 5:56:58 AM
^i had 2 bottles of enjoy by from this release. one was good, the other was omfg good. i dont know if was just me or is there some variation in the batch.
8/29/2013 7:00:10 AM
8/29/2013 8:00:34 AM
I'll have to try the biscotti break. I loved the creme brulee, but certainly in a small serving. Definitely a 750 that I split several ways when I open it.
8/29/2013 12:02:40 PM
So, no one wants my sour ales? Oh well...
8/29/2013 1:16:15 PM
if i was in Raleigh i'd take them just so they wouldn't get drain poured. What didn't you like about these? Were they too "vinegary" for you? That's a trait for a lot of these flemish and sour red/browns. I wouldn't turn away completely from sours. Give something like Petrus Golden Ale a try. The blonde/golden sours tend to be more of a dry tart sour than the browns.
8/29/2013 1:40:37 PM
Dang, I'd take them too, but I'm in Richmond. Love me some Duchesse de Bourgogne.
8/29/2013 1:49:45 PM
Yes, they taste like carbonated vinegar, to me. I've tried to acquire the taste for them, but I can't get past a couple of mercy sips. I hate to waste beer, but I know I'm never going to drink them.
8/29/2013 2:03:05 PM
^^^I'll have to try those maybe. I absolute hate anything with a vinegar taste so the few I've had were nearly all disgusting (to me) as well. Pretty much the same boat as hypaone.
8/29/2013 3:12:56 PM
Are the sours still available? I love them and could come pick them up if you are in the Raleigh area.
8/29/2013 3:23:09 PM
Speaking of heavy stouts...having an Evil Twin Even More Than Jesus imperial stout right now....phew! This thing is thick and delicious. Hides the 12% really well.
8/29/2013 6:35:34 PM
Don't believe I have had the regular Briscotti Break, but I have had the Imperial Biscotti Break and it is quite amazing. It also makes a pretty good black and tan with Maharajah.
8/31/2013 2:47:04 AM
I went down to Westbrook last weekend in Mt. Pleasant. They're definitely a solid brewery, but One Claw is the best rye pale ale I've ever had. I picked up a six pack that was canned the day before and the freshness was out of this world.

8/31/2013 10:05:07 PM
Debating on selling off my entire beer collection as a lot; decisions, decisions.
9/5/2013 9:17:39 AM
Had this last night. What a ridiculously thick stout. Crazy good. Split the bottle with the GF last night, but next time I'm going to have a whole one. Got a few more bottles on the way too.
9/5/2013 10:53:03 AM
Anybody else go to the bbl aged sexual chocolate release?
9/8/2013 8:38:02 PM
^ is it actually aged in Blue Barrels (bbls)?
9/9/2013 9:33:36 AM
Been drinking a ton of the One Claw and Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin. Really like the Sumpin Sumpin. Not usually a fan of wheat beers, but this one is more like an IPA. And I can get it at my corner store!

I would consider trading one. I'll be in Denver next month so I'll get in touch with you after I see what I'm able to get my hands on while I'm there.

9/13/2013 11:28:25 AM
Anyone been to that new Gizmo Brewery off of Glennwood?
9/13/2013 11:32:38 AM
Gizmo is terrible. It's the old Roth Brewing Co. and they've made almost zero attempt to improve or distance themselves from the inferior reputation.

Zwanze Day 2013 (Cantillon) at Crooked Stave here in Denver, was a blast:http://brewtallyinsane.com/2013/09/16/zwanze2013/

So I'm hearing that NC ABC won't approve Dogfish Head Punkin Ale's label and that Dogfish Head is pulling the beer from NC now to distribute elsewhere...If true, NC ABC can DIAF. It's long past time to reform that outdated commission.Anyone seen Punkin in NC?[Edited on September 23, 2013 at 11:22 AM. Reason : .]
