Yes ... Drop the biggest financial crisis since the great depression in their lap and then blame them for the deficit ... "They had a super majority. They should have been able to do something about it" ....

http://www.slate.com/id/2289619/

On Friday the federal government released the latest chapter of a year-old economic mystery: If you're a corporation, the economy is great. If you're a worker, the economy is still pretty horrible. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, real corporate profits neared an all-time high in the last three months of 2010, with companies raking in an annualized $1.68 trillion in pre-tax operating profits. (After tax, that comes to $1.25 trillion, about equal to the GDP of India.) The Federal Reserve estimates that companies are sitting on about $1.9 trillion. At the same time, unemployment remains at 8.9 percent, and job growth is still anemic.

"WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama is endorsing the Palestinians' demand for their future state to be based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war, in a move that will likely infuriate Israel. Israel says the borders of a Palestinian state have to be determined through negotiations.

In a speech outlining U.S. policy in the Middle East and North Africa, Obama on Thursday sided with the Palestinians' opening position a day ahead of a visit to Washington by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is vehemently opposed to referring to the 1967 borders.

Until Thursday, the U.S. position had been that the Palestinian goal of a state based on the 1967 borders, with agreed land swaps, should be reconciled with Israel's desire for a secure Jewish state through negotiations."

Chances are that if it pisses off Israel, it's a +1 for the US, thus +1 credibility.

They could have ended those evil bush tax cuts for the rich. Correct? Also eliminating those evil tax cuts for the REST of people, those under 250k, would raise more money for the govt. But why let a silly thing like math get in the way of a good class warfare/blame arguement. haha

I take the position that we shouldn't be brokering peace in this instance, but it's worth noting the history here: European powers created a Jewish state, and essentially told the Muslims to fuck off in the same stroke. Then we all stand back and pretend to be shocked that the Palestinians aren't satisfied with their little strip of land while constantly being harassed by Israel. What a bizarre world we live in.

Politically, this is a bad move for Obama. We all know how this will be perceived.

I have an idea, how about we let them handle their own shit. Crazy, I know.

My neighbor asked if he could use my driveway and yard for a van to move stuff out of his basement. It didnt take some idiot from England to fly in and mediate for us.

Im sure we would love the Chinese telling us we should take our borders back to pre Louisiana purchase.

Let them handle their own border dispute.

Let's worry less about arabs and more about the political prisoners he's abusing in our own country.

With the exception of natural diasters, the US' uncompromising support of Israel is the root cause of everything bad that has happend in the past 20 years.

^^Israelis are the modern-day nazis. Self-entitled, heavily armed and the general population is overwhelmingly racist. Also, they round people up into ghettos.

^Sarcasm or not, agreed. If it weren't for Israel and oil we wouldn't have to worry about the middle east. And seizing oil is an easy, achievable military objective. "Making the region safe for democracyIsrael" is not.

His proposal doesn't mean shit, because the US Government will always cave to Israel and give them more money. Obama doesn't even have the power to stop it. We're their bitch.

To be more precise, I don't care what Israel does with their pet arabs they have in cages. They can gas them in fake showers if they want, as long as the american taxpayer doesn't have to pay them any more.

I was just about to post this link actually: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/18/republican-senators-press-president-on-war-powers-deadline/?iref=allsearch

My guess is that Obama will just ignore it, because who's going to tell him otherwise? We scrapped the rule of the law along time ago.

I don't think I'm a teabagger, but yes, he should be impeached. Bush should have been as well. If we had a sensible Congress, that's what they would have done and would do if a President engaged in military action against a sovereign nation without a declaration of war.

There should be no issue that trumps sending troops overseas to fight, kill, and possibly die. The fact that many Americans treat it as some trivial issue is troubling.

Deserve impeachment if you do something blatantly unconstitutional, or follow the Constitution. Either way, it's futile to say; most of Congress is bought and sold, and never cared about the Constitution in the first place.

Well they kinda have to be that way, since they're surrounded by nations that want to destroy them.

And the Jews were originally there before the Muslims, so what's your point?

This stance will hurt Obama, and rightfully so.

Kind of like Cuba, the USSR, or Nazi Germany?

That's not true. Even in biblical times the same group of indigenous people were living there.

^^Give israel back to the Africans!

It's my understanding that the group that would become the israelites didn't really conquer the area as told in the bible but instead interbred with existing Canaanites over a long period. I'm weak in ancient history though. And of course modern Judaism only arose during recent exile periods in persia and elsewhere and is nothing like the paganism practiced while actually in their "homeland". Would like to be corrected on this if possible.

Yes...thousands of years beforehand: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_diaspora and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Israel

The region now known as Israel has been conquered and held by multiple civilizations. It's really no wonder that the United States supports them. Christianity is the dominant religion here, so people think the Bible means something, which says that "Israel" (whatever it's borders are supposed to be) belongs to the Jews, who are God's chosen people. For those of us that live in reality, we understand that Europeans created Israel thousands of years after the fact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Mandate_of_Palestine

We shouldn't be giving anyone to anything. We should stop giving both sides money. Private citizens should be free to express their opinion on who is entitled to what, but the U.S. government shouldn't be picking the winners and losers.

While I generally agree that we should get out of the Israeli support business, I also think that Obama is sabotaging the potential for negotiations by saying things like he did recently, effectively saying that Israel has to give in to key Palestinian demands before the negotiations even start. He's done it before, but it just poisons the whole process when the entire purpose of negotiations is to figure out what the hell the two sides will agree to. Saying one side must give in completely before the negotiations even start is fucking idiotic.

Saying "you must go back to pre-1967 borders" is pretty much the epitome of "giving in completely." Saying "there must be a 2-state solution" is a huge example of "giving in," given that, AGAIN, part of the negotiations is to establish that decision.

There should be a 3 state solution. A country made of the sane people on both sides that don’t want the absurd religious theocracy. Then the 2 states of people who will fight to the death with the other sdie.

I disagree, to me, giving in completely would mean the complete dismantling and removal of the Jewish state and returning the government to the indigenous people.

Why the roll? Those are literally the two sides of the debate. One extreme wants no palestinian state, the other wants no jewish one. Obama's suggestion seems somewhat in the middle of those two.

Nowhere is the obliteration of the Jewish state on the table between the two parties involved. Thus, the rolly eyes. There may be some people who want it, but they are not at the negotiating table
