ahh, ok. gotcha.I agree.... I even commented to a coworker how muggy it was today (being that it was only in the high 70's/low 80's). I guess I grew up in DC, so I am kind of used to it. But goddamn....middle of the summer....concrete....asphault....the hot ass motherfucker we call the sun.... and all of the rivers. DC turns into a hell hole.

Cass, people here think I'm crazy because I'd rather be in a hurricane. But for real... at least with a hurricane you can try to prepare for it, at least have plenty of time to evacuate. This shit? No thanks. And earlier when I said they thought a new one was touching down near us, I meant literally right next to downtown. They were showing this double thing that almost touched down but then failed (whew)
4/27/2011 9:52:20 PM
its odd, I have never been scared of tornadoes or bad weather... the chances of something getting you are SOOOOO small. I love really crazy storms, love watching them

^^ Years ago, I helped my brother move to Birmingham in the middle of the summer. The humidity there was terrible too. I mean, my shirt was soaking wet as soon as I stepped out of my air conditioned car.[Edited on April 27, 2011 at 9:54 PM. Reason : jaywise120016]

4/27/2011 11:16:02 PM
^ You just have to be a special kind of crazy. I chase for my station during the storm season. Luckily/unfortunately, there hasn't been anything for us to chase here in Western Oklahoma and NW Texas. As long as you know what you're doing, have a plan of attack, have all of your equipment running, and, more importantly, have your planned exit route, it can be exhilarating.[Edited on April 27, 2011 at 11:20 PM. the more i watch videos, i think i'd like to do that, but i would probably get hypnotized by the things and not escape in time

I'm I the only one who thinks it's ironic that "Yay, Alabama!" starts playing halfway through the video?
4/27/2011 11:27:30 PM
I was in Whole Foods off Wade Ave last week, they made everyone stand by the yogurt - because yogurt is obviously a tornados worst enemy.
4/27/2011 11:28:40 PM
I'd love to chase in the midwest...not so much in the wooded and hilly areas of the southeast

the comments about this are really pissing me offI know people think they're being funny and witty, or maybe like they're giving everyone some fucking awesome piece of insight that is totally going to make whoever is reading change their political views..... but really, they all sound like pricksSo far I have seen that this is God punishing us, that it's God punishing those of the Tea Party, that it's God punishing Republicans for "not believing in global warming," that this is what happens when people live in a "disaster area"**, and that people must be redneck imbreds for watching the tornado (there was a pic of people watching it in Cullman... who were not in the direction of the storm and were pretty far away)Obama declared Alabama to be a fucking disaster area, the death toll is climbing, and people are seriously trying to make this into a religious or political battle?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!** and really? wtf? how is the entire southeast a damn disaster area?!
4/27/2011 11:50:08 PM
Obama doesn't care about rednecks
4/27/2011 11:52:28 PM
"Disaster Area" = Yankees Send Us Free Money
4/27/2011 11:52:46 PM
I think the comment that really sparked my outrage was, "The Houses-are-loosa in Tuscaloosa"Real fucking classy.
4/27/2011 11:53:13 PM
Maybe you should stop reading the comments
4/27/2011 11:54:09 PM
I did... I couldn't take it. Then people started quoted bible verses (and not the inspirational kind)That's when I peaced out. I think I'm going to put my RescueTime blocker on, blast some music, and just focus on schoolwork. And keep the weather page up.
4/27/2011 11:55:41 PM
ya, I don't understand it either, usually people on the internet are sensitive and understanding
4/28/2011 12:02:08 AM
at the end of dweedle's first video is the guy looking at the damage? i can't really see what's going on
4/28/2011 12:04:09 AM
It seems like he didn't know what to do at first and was just scrambling, but it looks like he just ended up looking at the damage path it left behind.
4/28/2011 12:30:54 AM
Kiwi, can you give us any updates? :\
4/28/2011 12:33:23 AM

4/28/2011 12:37:01 AM
Yeah, are you there too? Are you safe??
4/28/2011 12:41:01 AM
I've been following Knoxville's weather all day. My entire family still lives there and it's where I did my internship. Everyone I know it OK tonight. All of East Tennessee has been under a Tornado Warning, yep Warning, for much of the afternoon and evening. No reports of tornadoes, just numerous funnel and wall clouds skirting by the city. This was a bigger wind and large hail event for Knoxville. Two storms with baseball hail hit the city tonight along with winds over 70 mph. So the power's out, windows and windshields are destroyed, leaves off of trees. I'm willing to bet Kiwi is fine, too. Just a little rattled, I'm sure. This is a picture from my family in South Knoxville:[Edited on April 28, 2011 at 12:49 AM. Reason : wrong address]

One of my best friends lives in Huntsville, AL. Spent about 3 hours this afternoon on and off in the closet with her dog and her 7-year-old. Like...businesses closed early and shit for the storm. Crazy.
4/28/2011 1:35:48 AM
Just got out of the basement and power back on, final warning just got canceled. Definitely tornadoes hit here but not on our house. We got lots of hail and wind, cars damaged but we are okay. Grateful because it got scary as shit for a second, sounded like the entire house was being ripped apart. And I'm in the tri cities, we don't get tornadoes here!
4/28/2011 1:41:32 AM
Wow, the death toll in Alabama just keeps rising.
4/28/2011 1:52:32 AM
Glad you're safe, Kiwi!!^ Yeah... I have been hearing ambulance sirens ever since the tornado left Bham. They closed off a lot of the roads near me to have a straight shot to UAB's hospital for the ambulancesOk guys... I'm going to attempt to be productive now. :\ (8 hours later......) Goodnight, and if anyone is in this thing's path still... stay safe![Edited on April 28, 2011 at 1:54 AM. Reason : .]
4/28/2011 1:54:15 AM
Thanks Samwise. We hear sirens too. Random houses are without power. It's dark so I don't know what's going on but our neighbor told us a tree is down on their house. There's already a growing death toll here too. I was really freaked for a second with the sounds, sounded like a damn train and hail like bullets.Watch out Raleigh.

CNN says 45 dead in Alabama currently and the number is expected to rise.Total storm deaths from neighboring states brings the total somewhere near or above 60.
