Making fun of the kid and calling him a goofy white dude before he comes here?
3/23/2009 1:02:22 AM
Werner isn't goofy lookingAnd I'm 10000000000% sure that people calling him goofy on the internet had nothing to do with him de-committing.
3/23/2009 1:04:11 AM
Well I didn't think so either but supposedly his father didn't like comments he read on message boards or something to that effect.
3/23/2009 1:05:15 AM
Oh I remember that threadWith the 3 > 2 shirtThat was a pretty stupid shirt
3/23/2009 1:08:34 AM
werner sucks anyway
3/23/2009 1:23:09 AM
Mr. Grace, i was just saying that costner wasnt good enogh for the ewing theory to apply. that was a light hearted comment. if you'd read ANYTHING else i wrote you'd see that im disappointed that he's leaving and think we will be a worse team because of it. read![Edited on March 23, 2009 at 7:46 AM. I can't believe Trevor's not coming back. I'm not upset because this opens up a scholly for Sid to go grab a solid recruit. But I totally didn't see this coming. Good luck Fergie!

What's up with this Josh Davis that I'm hearing about?^ Werner didn't have enough stars to go beside his name for Duke to recruit him.

who else are you hearing about gunzz

3/23/2009 1:39:19 PM
so with Ferguson and Costner gone, do we take two more recruits this year?
3/23/2009 3:03:02 PM
nope, probably a huge year next year.
3/23/2009 3:17:23 PM
i still think we try to sign a 5 man class this year
3/23/2009 3:53:56 PM
josh davis of athens drive just committed to usthere were talks he was going to walk on next year earlier IIRC...so read from that what you will
3/23/2009 4:18:10 PM
what do you mean "read from that what you will" are you trying to say he doesn't deserve the scholly? He averaged 25 points his senior year and was a good rebounder. At this point i'm really just kind of excited to have a guy who said its been his dream since seeing his first state game to play here. He sounds like a high energy athlete who can rebound and defend....cool with me.
3/23/2009 4:25:06 PM
Welcome aboard Josh!Certainly not an impact signing, but more depth doesn't hurt in this league...[Edited on March 23, 2009 at 4:28 PM. Reason : really hoping Spurlock gives us a look...]

well you never know what'll happen when guys get into college. There were a lot of 2* combo guards running around owning the ACC this year so who knows with Josh. He has put up numbers in HS, though those can always be tricky. I just figured there would be a lot of people questioning this commitment, especially since it kind of came out of nowhereI agree that's its nice to see a guy who's always wanted to play for State coming here
3/23/2009 4:33:19 PM
3/23/2009 4:34:02 PM
Well, obviously his offer list doesn't scream ACC-elite all over it, but I see no point shitting on a kid who wants to run with our team...** Would a less touted Paul Harris be a good comparison?[Edited on March 23, 2009 at 4:40 PM. Reason : x]
3/23/2009 4:34:35 PM

I don't think anyone is shitting on the kid, just the decision to use a scholarship on him. Although I think that says more about the state of our program than anything else.
3/23/2009 4:41:43 PM
Nah, I think he can contribute...just not sure what the overall reaction would be. The staff has been keeping an eye on him for a while, and I guess with the confirmation that both Costner and Ferg were out, felt the spot opened up for him. He's a SF/PF tweener that can defend a bunch of different types of players. I think that's a spot we didn't really have filled on the roster and he can help there. Though I think it eliminates any talk of Spurlock
3/23/2009 4:43:34 PM
that N&O link says he's a center.

3/23/2009 4:46:51 PM
i assume this means we won't be taking a point guard (wall) this class since we need a big man to finish the class up. i was actually hoping early today that we'd get another guy to fill the 3 spot so hopefully this guy can ball.
3/23/2009 4:49:40 PM
3/23/2009 4:50:13 PM
^^^^ there's some early speculation he might play the 4 in a small line-up but he's not an undersized post guy (ie a shorter tracy smith). He's not a guy who'll knock down 3s but his range is more than 8 feet[Edited on March 23, 2009 at 4:52 PM. Reason : also he's said to be 6'6 200 now. So probably 6'5 and a couple tenths]

http://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=927426Costner, Ferguson depart basketball programNC State men's basketball coach Sidney Lowe has announced that redshirt juniors Brandon Costner and Trevor Ferguson will forego their final year of eligibility, and not return to the Wolfpack in 2009-10. Costner will earn a degree in communications in May, while Ferguson plans to earn a degree in science, technology and society in the summer."Brandon has enjoyed a great career at NC State, and now is going to prepare himself to go through the NBA Draft process," said Lowe. "Trevor feels like it was his time to move on, and we will continue to help him in his pursuit of his degree."After sitting out most of the 2005-06 season with a stress fracture, Costner has been a constant in the Pack lineup for the last three seasons. He played in 110 career games with 84 starts averaging 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds during his career. This season, he became the 41st player in school history to score 1,000 career points, and ended his career with 1,273 (27th most in NCSU history). In 2008-09, Costner led the Pack in scoring (13.6) and was second in both rebounding (6.1) and in assists (71).Costner was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and was also a third-team All-ACC selection as a redshirt freshman in 2006-07. He was just the seventh freshman in ACC history to lead his team in both scoring (16.8) and rebounding (7.3) his rookie season."I really want to thank the coaches, the fans and everybody at NC State for the time I have spent here," said Costner. "So many people have helped me while I was a member of the Wolfpack, I just feel like it is time to move on and pursue my dreams of playing professionally."Ferguson transferred to NC State after signing a letter of intent with Pittsburgh, and sat out the 2005-06 season. He played in 52 career games, with his eight starts all coming this past season. For his career, Ferguson averaged 3.7 points in 15.5 minutes of action, hitting 37.4 percent (43-115) of his career three-point attempts."I enjoyed my time here at NC State, and am proud to have been a member of the Wolfpack family," said Ferguson. "Playing in the ACC was something I enjoyed, and now I look forward to moving on in my life."

yeah, we're going to suck. no slam on this guy but good grief people, there is no silver lining here.all the people(not talking about anyone specifically) that condemned going after the top tier/one and done talent and wanted to settle for "4 year players" are now getting their wish. Now we will probably have two schollys in this class wrapped up in two guys that will ride the bench for 4 years. grats![Edited on March 23, 2009 at 5:02 PM. Reason : ]

3/23/2009 5:04:08 PM
wait, so now it's ok to slam recruits b/c it's a last ditch Lowe effort?gotcha
3/23/2009 5:05:03 PM
I'm not slamming the kid, I have no clue about him other than what Scout tells me.I just can tell you to not expect him to be a ALL-ACC performer.
3/23/2009 5:06:18 PM
^^^^in other words, this kid is a project. he's not ready to make an impact right away. with that height he better develop that outside shot pretty quick. we just don't need anymore role players. we need guys that make an impact.[Edited on March 23, 2009 at 5:08 PM. Reason : ]
