Well NK just threatened to strike Guam.
8/8/2017 8:14:10 PM
^^^ Because he has a long and storied history of blustery bullshitery.
8/8/2017 8:47:57 PM
he has a short history of being the President of the United Statesstakes is high
8/8/2017 8:50:42 PM
He has made all sorts of threats with no intention on executing, this one included, and even if he did, the generals he obviously respects greatly wouldn't let him.[Edited on August 8, 2017 at 8:56 PM. Reason : This is classic Trump, just a more sensitive subject matter than normal.][Edited on August 8, 2017 at 8:57 PM. Reason : v he's not going to make the unilateral decision to strike against the advisement of his generals. Step off the ledge.]]
8/8/2017 8:55:12 PM
That's not how chain of command works
8/8/2017 8:55:53 PM
those generals don't have the codes
8/8/2017 8:57:49 PM
Dudes all bluster. Can't believe you people are taking him seriously for once.
8/8/2017 8:58:49 PM
He doesn't need the codes for nk to launch a nuke...
8/8/2017 8:59:30 PM
Except they know what would happen if they did that.[Edited on August 8, 2017 at 9:00 PM. Reason : Those idiots just want a seat at the table.]

You certainly have a high risk tolerance and lack of appreciation for how most conflict has erupted in the past.

He can do whatever Obama did when Syria crossed the "red line"
8/8/2017 10:15:39 PM
the two situations are nothing alike
8/8/2017 10:29:29 PM
Only because Syria doesn't have nukes...though, we're not quite sure how operational NKs are at this point.[Edited on August 8, 2017 at 11:07 PM. Reason : Other than that they're both threats with nothing behind them ]
8/8/2017 11:06:54 PM
has Syria sent missiles towards us and openly cheered for our destruction?

8/9/2017 12:35:53 AM
Except they're both empty threats.]
8/9/2017 12:44:25 AM
Are you saying Obama and Trump's threats are both empty? Or NK and Syria's? Or Trump and NK's?There are a lot of threats going around.
8/9/2017 4:37:29 AM
Yeah, NK is most likely all talk. I don't know if Trump is though, which is terrifying.
8/9/2017 8:10:44 AM
Relax guys, it's all bluster, Trump and Jong-Un know what they're doing. Don't worry be happy!
8/9/2017 9:11:25 AM
8/9/2017 9:30:52 AM
apparently he didn't let his generals know he was going to threaten North Korea he also blatantly lied about our nuclear arsenal this morningso not only did he needlessly bring up nukes, he totally lied about what he's done to improve them
8/9/2017 9:52:50 AM
Wait, isn't the upgrade in the 2018 appropriations bill? It's not entirely impossible he actually believes him saying he upgraded our nuclear arsenal means it happened.[Edited on August 9, 2017 at 10:18 AM. Reason : iPhone shitty typos]

Regardless of how legitimate of a threat Trump's comments were yesterday (I certainly didn't lose any sleep over them), I think it's pretty sad that even the notion of a possible nuclear war with NK is now on the table. I know some people are just itching to go to war because 'Murrica and all that, but for fuck's sake, this is pretty pathetic.
8/9/2017 11:00:57 AM
so the FBI raided Manafort's home the morning before he was supposed to testify before the Senate Judiciary committee. It's interesting that the media is just finding out about this 2 weeks later.
8/9/2017 11:27:24 AM
I mean if you don't think the timing of these 'threats' about NK, along with information coming out about the FBI investigation aren't awfully coincidental, I don't know what to tell you. His entire administration has been operating this way since the beginning. Here's the basic formula:"bad press" comes out about X issue, Trump says/does something outrageous to either divert attention from issue X or stoke fears about issue Y to distract everyone. When all else fails, he just pivots to the "fake news"/ "everyone it against me!" talking points. Either that, or he resorts to bragging about 'beating' HRC in the EC.He's been trying to run DC under a corporate model where he's the big scary CEO that keeps everyone on their toes by threatening them 24/7. It's beyond predictable at this point.[Edited on August 9, 2017 at 11:46 AM. Reason : .]

^I think the reference is to people who are tired of our policy of appeasement over the past 30 years with countries like Iran/Pakistan/Iraq/North Korea as it relates to us going back and forth to get them to promise to be nice.
8/9/2017 12:52:16 PM
Uncle Sam needs to put a boot up their asses!
8/9/2017 1:10:33 PM
^^ yepYou can also throw in the same type of people who long for the 1950s post-war after glow where everyone is super happy to just be alive and have their "boys" home (ie. Boomers who grew up with white picket fences and doting parents). While we're at it, let's include the people who think wars are great for the economy (hint: this tends to happen when you win AND produce all the crap needed to fight the war- Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan don't apply here)[Edited on August 9, 2017 at 2:21 PM. Well if you guys stumble across a column or something advocating for an attack against NK from someone who isn't a complete idiot pass it along here. I'd be interested in reading what they think would happen to Seoul if we were to attack NK...
8/9/2017 2:35:34 PM
Most rational people would agree, that yes, attacking NK would be a terrible idea, so I don't think you'll find a lot of respected journalists gunning for the idea. Baiting NK into attacking us first would be a much better 'sell' to the public though, so my money would be on that happening instead. Then again, look who our fucking president is...
8/9/2017 2:42:01 PM
LOL. Mitch McConnell has me agreeing with Trump. Christ. I mean McConnell never ever had a viable repeal and replace plan. But to say the president had "excessive expectations" lol you dumbass.
8/10/2017 11:30:52 AM
those adults in the room sure are doing a fantastic job of keeping the bombast down
8/10/2017 3:37:50 PM
I think people are overreacting to Trump's comments on NK. He's not really saying anything much different than what's always been our stance-- he's just saying it in a dumber way. We've always threatened military action on NK if they keep pursuing their program or attack anyone. Is the essence of what Trump says different than what Obama is saying with this statement?
8/11/2017 12:35:59 AM
The thing is I'm sure Obama's statement was coordinated with the pentagon, his NSC, and our foreign allies.Trump's statement reportedly didn't run his "fire and fury" statement by any advisers or the state department, according to both NYT and Politico. I doubt he spoke to Japan/South Korea/China, either.
8/11/2017 8:38:42 AM
i don't know how to have a conversation with someone who can't tell the difference between Trump's sword rattling and Obama's restrained statement
8/11/2017 8:40:59 AM
Donald the Dove out there threatening military action in Venezuela.I should be used to it by now but it's still hard to remember that the POTUS words aren't to be listened to.
8/11/2017 7:51:13 PM

The "condemnation" speech he just gave...Is this not rock bottom?
