GPS fix is rolling out to captivate owners.

There's also a small update now available for the Fascinate. Doesn't really do much other than get rid of the nagging signal lost alert and make it where you can hit the search button without disconnecting a call. http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-update-pushing-out-now[quote] * Instant notification of Visual Voice Mail in the messaging bar. * Improved sync between phone and e-mail accounts. * Prompt notification when switching to airplane mode. * Faster switching from 3G to 1x RTT. * Search phone while on a call. * Improved Exchange password alerts. * No Service audio alert removed.[/quoteDroid 2 WEhttp://www.droid-life.com/2010/09/22/droid-2-global-benchmarks-and-system-info-hello-1-2ghz-processor/]

^^^thanks, I'll look at that.got 2.2 rooted on my DX!
9/22/2010 5:34:05 PM
i wanna root to get rid of the bloatware now, but im not confident in those procedures .. some people in the comments saying it doesn't work, etc (although they probably aren't doing it right)
9/22/2010 7:16:56 PM
http://rootzwiki.com/index.php/Smartphones/Motorola/Droid-X/Droid-X.htmlAre you using those instructions? That method is basically one-click root. The only thing in the comments I saw was people having issues SBF'ing back to 2.1 from the 2.2 leak.
9/22/2010 7:41:43 PM
is there a list of things that are safe to delete (bloat stuff)
9/22/2010 7:51:02 PM
Pretty much anything EXCEPT backup assistant is safe to remove. I'd advise moving it off the phone instead of straight deleting because it will cause problems with further OTA updates if they are gone (another reason not to use them).
9/22/2010 8:51:09 PM
^^I used these instructions: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/26/droid2-rooting-method-works-for-droidx-running-froyo/and had to add in adb kill-server after step # 12keep in mind that I had never done this/used SDK, etc.... a total n00b and moron at it and I got it to workas far as bloatware... I created this list for 2.1. I imagine it's nearly the same for 2.2. It's best just to rename from .apk to .bak then wait a day or so, make sure all functionality you need is there then copy them to the SD card or your PC. Don't delete. And there are many more items than just the backup that you can't delete.http://www.droidforums.net/forum/attachments/droid-x-hacks/14897d1283975672-how-remove-bloatware-stock_apps.zip[Edited on September 22, 2010 at 9:09 PM. I need to update that (^) list.Important info:Conversations.apk is text messaging!BlurEmail & BlurEmail Engine (and maybe another .apk) are related to gmaildon't rename those!
9/22/2010 10:12:51 PM
i tried that DoRoot thing and the DOS-y looking screen that popped up went through some code then said something like "please restart ADB on computer" or whatever it saidi just unplugged and im not sure what it did, phone works normal though
9/22/2010 10:58:05 PM
The fascinate update failed for me three times. Something about PREVIOUS_IP something or other. I'm rooted and have removed some of the bloat but judging from what I've read that shouldn't make much of a difference.sucks
9/22/2010 11:11:35 PM
My DX is not updating to 2.2! WHY?!
9/23/2010 12:41:40 AM
9/23/2010 8:28:48 AM
^^ what is the problem? Are you getting an error message or what?
9/23/2010 8:34:55 AM
It was just sitting at the "searching for updates" page. It is vanilla 2.1, with launcher pro on top.I pulled the battery and retried it this morning, it's working now
9/23/2010 10:52:49 AM
good. servers were probably just busy... as soon as word got out that it was already available, people were on it like crazy.
9/23/2010 10:59:10 AM
WTF: just installed the update and ran linpack benchmark, only went up to 12 MFLOPS from 7.I thought this thing was supposed to be like 6 times faster?
9/23/2010 12:34:22 PM
I used quadrant... went from ~900-1000 to ~1300-1500I never heard 7 times faster...
9/23/2010 12:41:39 PM
14 MFLOPS, 1Ghz Droid, Android 2.2^^Maybe you were thinking the JS engine?
9/23/2010 12:51:33 PM
This Fascinate update is pissing me off. I've put everything back to stock and keep getting the same error. W T F
9/23/2010 1:18:40 PM
Is there not a damn update.zip for the official update?I'm not fucking SBFing because I'm lazy. [Edited on September 23, 2010 at 1:20 PM. Reason : droid X]
9/23/2010 1:20:21 PM
Linpack doesn't do too well on any of the non-qualcomm chips.
9/23/2010 1:22:14 PM
updated stock apps/bloatware list for DX (the list started from 2.1 but I don't think there are many (if any) differences).(9/23/10) for future reference: check future posts for any updateshttp://www.droidforums.net/forum/attachments/droid-x-hacks/15776d1285264019-how-remove-bloatware-stock_apps.zip[Edited on September 23, 2010 at 1:53 PM. If you have the 2.2 leak do NOT try to install the OTA on top of it. dweedle, did you put the DoRoot files in the SDK's tools folder? The reason it wants you to do that is because that's where the adb.exe file is. If you did do that bring up a command prompt, navigate to that folder (the one with adb.exe) and type in the command "adb devices", this will start the adb daemon and should show your phone if the correct drivers have been installed. If it does show your phone you should be able to run the .bat file. If not, you need to install the right drivers so that it will show up. Also make sure you have USB debugging on, sometimes it only works in charge only mode.]

Hey,Has anyone with launcher pro had problems getting the Launcher Pro "contacts" (or maybe it's "people") to show any specialized list. ie, other than the entire list of contacts? I can't get it to show my favorites, or starred lists
9/23/2010 10:10:44 PM
I just tested it and I could make it display any group I wanted. Have you updated to the latest version?
9/24/2010 2:17:34 PM
i went back to htc sensei was experiencing lagginess and it kept restarting launcher pro just about every time i went back to the home screen - wasn't working out for me even though it looked nice. even my ROM dev has removed it from his ROM in the latest update yesterday (FreshROM) so i'm pretty sure i'm not the only one.and now that i'm not capped at 30fps, htc sense zips along on this 1ghz proc...it's beautiful.
9/24/2010 2:22:21 PM
Just got the Epic- I'm still letting the screen protector dry and the battery chargethis is my first android phone, so I'll be perusing this thread later tonight and trying to figure out everything cool on it. The screen is amazing!
9/24/2010 5:27:05 PM
can anyone recommend a good screen protector for the samsung fascinate? i have the generic verizon screen protector and it dulls the screen and it's hard to read out in the sunlight.. without the protector its a lot easier to see when it's bright.anyone know any top quality protectors for it that don't dull the screen?
9/24/2010 6:37:44 PM
Best phone security settings? Now that I realize how much of my life can be accessed through my phone I'm scarred in case some random friend picks it up and starts going through mint transactions or ' video' collection. Bast options to prevent fiddling and remote wipe in the event of theft?
9/24/2010 6:39:39 PM
Yeah, I have the verizon ones but they don't cover the whole front of the phone so I just ordered the Realook screen protectors for the Fascinate on Amazon.com. $10.99 including shipping for 2 protectors and some miscellaneous stuff to apply them with. Should be here sometime next week.

^ thanks, just set it up - there's no remote wipe
9/25/2010 7:15:11 AM
I've been using Wavesecure for a while now and it's nice. Gives you the option to remote lock, wipe and sound this annoying as shit alarm. You can also remotely back up contacts, call logs, sms and photos. I got it for free while it was still in beta but it's a little pricey now at $19.90/yr. And they're being bought out by McAfee so I'm sure it's about to go to shit. https://www.wavesecure.com/
9/25/2010 10:35:23 AM
jaZon, if you really want the 2.2 OTA (which I don't know why you would) you'll have to SBF back to the .604 build and then upgrade from there. Or you can just get the 2.3.15 from Team Black Hat which is the same thing but pre-rooted and deodexed and without the signature/keys change.

But Blur sucks. And I thought remote wipes only applied to phones hooked up to exchange or do you get an actual web interface that you can go to and control it? ]
9/25/2010 5:00:16 PM
you go to motorola's blur page and as long as your phone has a signal you can wipe it, locate it, etc.
9/25/2010 6:34:01 PM
Can you send a text from another phone to lock and/or wipe it?
9/25/2010 7:02:47 PM
