From a trip this summer...unfortunately I didn't have my D40 with me so I was using my Canon A570IS PnS.I put the white balance on incandescent for this shot to turn the sunset bluish...These were the actual colors...[Edited on November 1, 2008 at 12:34 AM. Reason : ]

A few underwater shots from my A570IS. I can't remember if I've posted these or not, just smack me if I have. These were from the inaugural dunking of that camera and it's housing. These were taking on a recent cave diving trip to northern Florida. Specifically these were taken at the Devil's Ear entrance to the Devil's cave system in High Springs, FL. The entrance to the spring is situated right next to the Santa Fe River -- the tannic river water (reddish color) mixes with the crystal clear water coming out of the spring to produce the interesting colors. My two teammates...one of which has the reel clipped off to his butt d-ring so it looks like...well...you get the idea. A little lower...And one without any divers. This next shot was taken inside the cave system at Madison Blue, another place we were diving. Unfortunately I don't have any strobes and and onboard flash would have screwed up the shot (underwater, on-camera flash tends to result in lighting up the particles right in front of the camera). For this shot the shutter was open for 3/10th's for a second so it's pretty blurry. Still it should give you an idea of what the inside of the cave looks like...of course they are all different. It is very difficult to hold still while you are hovering underwater trying to not touch the ceiling (cave conservation) or the floor (stir up a huge silt cloud), while the water is pushing against you, and you are waiting for a team of idiots to get out of your way (the light behind the column in front of the camera).

I had ALOT of success shooting today, I am SO pleased with my growth.
11/2/2008 7:48:20 PM
Explain...
11/2/2008 8:32:55 PM
That picture wasn't necessarily one of the best, I just like the color range in it.My composition has improved along with rate of print-ready photos, I'm feeling more comfortable with the Manual mode, and overall had a good time!
11/2/2008 8:37:28 PM
What were you thinking when you took that picture? How/why did you decide to frame it like it is? What is supposed to be the focal point?Believe it or not, I am not trying to be a dick. I just am pretty sure that by now you can do better. In my opinion, that is a picture of nothing, "color range" or not.[Edited on November 2, 2008 at 8:40 PM. Reason : .]

11/2/2008 8:43:07 PM
Well, those trees are the focal point with the awesome branch and I kept it like that because of the blue/green hues in the background. Maybe it's not perfect but those colors appeal to me (maybe because I love beach views and those colors mainly exist there). Lets see if I can find a better one
11/2/2008 8:47:18 PM
If you'd have gotten closer to the trees and gotten rid of the distracting lines in the background, I think it'd be a lot better. If you're going to make the trees the focal point then be deliberate about it and find a way to make them stand out or be separate from the rest of the photo instead of just making sure they are in focus and hoping for the best. Also, what's with the tilted horizons? And what's the point of that photo?
11/2/2008 8:49:40 PM
Bah humbug

I'm having some kind of colorspace issue w/ Aperture and picasa. Before i was using Adobe RAW to process raws, export them, and in doing so the jpgs in picasa web albums looked pretty much like the raws. Now my Aperture outputs are seriously lacking in the reds/warmth. I'm a bit confused about color spaces. What do i need to check to make sure things are proper? the web is sRGB? I believe my camera is set to that as well or is that setting only for jpgs. I could google this, but thats no fun.
11/2/2008 9:17:00 PM
I love the fall colors.
11/2/2008 11:29:06 PM
I bought a Sony DSLR A300k, love it so farI went out with it, took a few shots to try to mess around with the settings and stuff, and here are a few shots that I took. These are all unedited so far, but all comments/suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

LOVE the turtles
11/2/2008 11:43:57 PM
yeah, they were pretty great. Not bad for day 1 with the dslr
11/3/2008 12:09:35 AM
I've determined that Picasa is somehow stripping out colorspace info or something. I can export to jpeg on my HD, open them in firefox, look great. upload to Picasa, view in firefox, look washed out.
