What the SEC has accused Musk of is the same shit he pulled with Dogecoin (it’s apt they named their new gov department after a crypto scam.) and it’s the reason all of his companies are drastically overvalued. Take a position, then start hyping it very publicly, and then profit as the fanbois flood into buy. It can be pump and dump or insider trading/frontrunning depending on the exact scheme, but it’s also not always illegal either as I understand.

The result of the SEC’s case against Musk isn’t so important to me, what I do think is importantly is that people start to recognize this exact scam in the Trump administration. For the next 4 years the administration is going to make big announcements (25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada!1!1!1), almost always on social media first (triggers algorithmic traders), that will obviously produce winners and losers and will send traders scrambling to get into position. You need to understand that insiders in the administration will have already taken positions by the time you hear and digest the new policy. Some significant portion of these announcements aren’t even under serious consideration, they just create movement and volatility in the markets.

My main recommendation is to just roll your eyes whenever a big administration decree gets blasted out on social media. It’s bait.

I think it's important to understand where this support comes from. Who doesn’t acknowledge it? In the USA at least Obama literally ran in 2008 on securing the border while trying to open up the pathways to legal immigration. He was called the deporter in chief remember? They were trying to stabilize relations with Cuba which would have eventually lead to better relationship with Venezuela, which means the migrant crisis from Venezuela would never have happened

The problem was that republicans never played ball and still aren’t. Trump if anything enflamed instability throughout central and South America and made refugee problems even worse. Europe is facing issues because of similar foolish policies in their neighboring countries.

The problem isn’t that liberal politicians aren’t addressing the problem, the problem is that rightwing politicians are picking the low hanging fruit of racial populism.

It’s definitely fair to call the politicians pushing this rhetoric racist, and musk is 100% a white supremacist, but the people voting for them usually have simpler motivations.

^ In your lifetime is quite a bit different than 20,000 migrants showing up in a town of 60,000 in a single year. Such a town isn't going to have the capacity for the new student influx. The teachers they do have certainly are not trained to handle the different cultural environment and language barriers. The poor kids now have to compete for time with the migrants for time. The rich kids get ported out to private schools.

what I'd like to see on both sides of the aisle is to acknowledge such situations as real challenges (that can be solved) without giving up on the idea that America embracing immigration is both a moral and economic net good. if our civilization is as exceptional as we claim we are, then we should be more than capable of welcoming many more millions of freedom-seeking humans. after all, the US is only a few percent of the global population, and we won't remain competitive if we turn away people who want to play for our team.

Dealing with refugees and migrants is a longstanding core function of government

Republicans tied the issue to white identity politics, and then states and towns started saying they would reject and immigrants. So this leaves fewer places to keep them. It’s a government failure for that 1 area, but trump made the problem worse at multiple levels of policy.
