I'm actually not sure that point is as good as you think Science's whole thing is kinda questioning and investigating everything including known "truths"
1/27/2022 1:12:14 PM
^^ you seem to not understand a lot of things, namely hyperbole/sarcasm and the difference between describing an anecdote/personal experience vs. making/presenting claims of fact. Just so you're aware, that question was rhetorical/philosophical in nature, btw. "Knowing" is a perception/feeling, which is subjective, as opposed to objective/empirical (there is where science is supposed to help out!)I get that I can be sarcastic and dramatic, but if you really think I've been trying to make scientific claims about my own experiences, you may want to work a bit on your reading comprehension, and I mean that in a kind/encouraging way-- not being a dick.^ I'm glad your vision is good dawg. Yes, and not just saying "I experienced these symptoms, so I self-diagnosed that i must have ____". Some WebMD shit. I'm certain my cousin in the ICU has Covid because not only does he have the symptoms, he's been diagnosed by a scientifically-reviewed testing procedure. But if you asked him (if he could talk now), I bet he'd still swear that Covid isn't real and it's just pneumonia that's kept him in the hospital for over two weeks and caused him to go on a ventilator yesterday. (btw, I had another cousin that died in early Fall after being diagnosed and admitted to the ICU).I'm pretty sure both of my parents just had it after being pretty sick for two weeks. But they never got tested, so I can't be certain. And they're pretty certain it was just a "bad cold".Anyways, here's this:https://www.wral.com/hospital-patient-without-covid-shot-denied-heart-transplant/20100831/[Edited on January 27, 2022 at 1:37 PM. Ok. I'm done. Not going back to see how this "argument" unraveled, but to reiterate, I am not arguing you (or others) didn't have it. That was never my arugment And I feel sympathy for people who have/had it (partcilarly those who have taken measures to try to prevent it). I hate that my cousin died from it when he could have taken steps to prevent it. He wasn't very bright, but he was a nice guy and meant well. Now my other cousin, he's always been a dumb right-wing racist asshole, so I'm having trouble finding sympathy for him.

This is all justin's fault I am legitimately sad to hear your family has dealt with COVID this way; I can relate because I have family members that have behaved similarly and its torn my already screwed up family even farther apart. The fact that the virus has been politicized to this degree is a very, very bad sign for our society. Before catching omicron, I really struggled to have any empathy/sympathy for people who refuse the vaccine, but I think I actually have a bit of a better understanding of why so many people STILL refuse to take the disease seriously. I don't think they deserve a 'pass'-- especially if they're like Sara Palin and spreading it around like Typhoid Mary, but at least I can understand the mindset a bit more and it helps me to be less angry at them.

Prolly death. But at least someone less stupid's life can be extended with an available organ.
1/31/2022 6:03:29 PM
^^ there’s not much to it. He’ll die. He’s not willing to meet the criteria for the transplant. It’s sad. But it’s pretty standard practice. They don’t go around giving organs to people that aren’t up to date on their vaccines and are unwilling to meet the standard criteria
1/31/2022 6:17:31 PM
it was a rhetorical questionof course he’ll more than likely die
1/31/2022 7:16:05 PM
Help me understand this guy's reasoning:The vaccine may make me impotent, or sick, or maybe even kill me. So instead of taking it, I'll take my chances with my kidney that functions at 4% and will almost certainly die?
1/31/2022 8:13:41 PM
^You would never understand!
1/31/2022 8:15:52 PM
There’s no logic. It’s a matter of principle. It’s just a very dumb and entirely misinformed and misguided principle. It makes absolutely no sense that somebody would trust medical professionals to perform a kidney transplant on them but not trust their advice and knowledge when it comes to a vaccine. None of the anti-vax stuff is founded in any logic. [Edited on January 31, 2022 at 8:58 PM. Reason : A]

An apparently prevalent belief among anti-vaxxers is that the COVID vaccines are not only ineffective but actually cause vaccine recipients to become immunocompromised. My guess is that this is derived from studies in heavily vaccinated populations that found a higher rate of COVID hospitalizations and deaths among the vaccinated than among the unvaccinated, simply due to the sheer number of vaccinated individuals within those populations.
5/24/2022 9:59:49 AM
I though the rate of hospitalizations and deaths among the vaxxed is extremeley low. Like miniscule. Am I wrong? Anecdotally, I have not heard of single case of a vaxxed person having to be hospitalized or dying (but I am aware of at least 6 un-vaxxed people that died (two were immediate relatives, one was an old high school acquaintance, and two were immediate relatives of close friends).I ended up getting it a few months ago (not sure how/where). I had a fever and sore throat for a few days, and isolated in my room for five days. The cough/congestion lasted a few weeks, as did the tiredness, but it never got bad at all, and I'm pretty sure I don't have any lingering effects (fingers crossed).
5/24/2022 11:21:47 AM
The rate of hospitalizations and deaths among the vaccinated is low; however, it's possible that a population with an extremely high vaccinated population and an extremely low vaccinated population could be so disproportional that even this low rate could lead to more vaccinated hospitalizations than unvaccinated hospitalizations.I believe that vaccine opponents are using this phenomenon to argue that the vaccines are actually harmful.
5/24/2022 11:46:29 AM
Yes, I have a very close relative that constantly says that the vaccinated are more likely to get sick than the non-vaccinated. It's not even worth trying to discuss or figure out where she's getting her "information", so I usually don't say anything when she brings this up (which is fairly often).
