12 would be accurate with Lacey. He's an All-ACC guy. So we would have lost Turner and replaced him with Henderson...then bring everybody back with a year of experience while losing one big man who wasn't getting a lot of burn. We were a sweet 16 team. 12 would have been perfect.

We lost our top scorer and back-up PG.
Our offense the last 2 years has revolved around having one player dominate the ISO game, which has worked because we've had 2 great scorers to do that with, but now we don't have a proven scorer.
We lost depth inside and didn't really bring in a big to replace Washington.
We don't have a true back-up PG and Barber has had some injury(concussion) issues in the past.

I'm not surprised ESPN is sleeping on us, I was actually more surprised that Lunardi put us that high. If we can find some consistent scoring options(Henderson, Matin, Rowan, etc.) and Barber/Abu continue to trend in the right direction like the end of last season, we'll be in good shape to land a tournament bid.

We have a lot of good pieces, just have to see how they mesh. But on paper right now not sure why anyone would think we're borderline top 25 or a lock for the tournament.

Yeah the fact that the WPC is funding it and that 51% of the residents must be non-athletes doesn't give that UNC fan at IC any real ground to stand on. Sounds like KU & UK have done something similar in recent years.

Should give us a recruiting advantage to be able to show recruits this as opposed to College Inn (which was already pretty nice to begin with). Would assume this will go in the parking lot next to Reynolds once the Reynolds renovation comes to a close.

Yep. Oklahoma built one for football.

Even though the money is coming from the WPC, the University will run it, so the N&O won't have to worry about trying to go after it like they did College Inn when the WPC managed it. Funding source and the athlete/non-athlete percentage gives us the green light.

It's a good thing, then, that both Cat Barber and Henderson are primed to emerge as a tremendous complimentary perimeter duo. Barber, who of course boasts impressive quickness and agility, has begun to flesh out his all-around game. And that spells trouble for anyone who has to defend him. A good distributor, Barber loves to run and push tempo, and can get to the rim in order to score and to open up opportunities for his buddies. Last season, Barber sank 27 triples at a 38% clip - a huge improvement from the paltry 12 made and 26% from his sophomore year. His entire shooting line improved markedly, in fact; the 44/38/73% line he posted reflected Barber's increasing comfort level running the Pack and his improvement as a jump shooter. With continued improvement - and reports are that Barber has honed his jumper all summer - Barber should emerge as the type of elite lead guard who can get his shot and make it, whenever he wants. Henderson is a proven deep threat, and begins his homecoming with a 39% career mark from downtown. With NC St trying to absorb the loss of Lacey and Turner, plus Barber's ability to penetrate and kick out, Henderson should have one of the greenest lights in the ACC. During his transfer year off, Henderson worked on his handle and will look to become more effective driving to the goal; he had already begun to display that skill as a real threat during the second half of his last year in Morgantown. Twins Caleb and Cody Martin return for their sophomore seasons, and the former 4-star prospects are now poised to play a starring role. Caleb made the more immediate impact last season, and is the team's second-leading returning perimeter shootist. Cody is better around the basket, while Caleb should join Henderson in letting fly often from deep. Caleb played 17 minutes per game, but scored in double figures just three times last year, and both brothers were inconsistent overall. And yet, there were oh-so-tantalizing flashes; exhibit A being the night they played a vital role in forcing #8 Notre Dame into overtime with a combined 22 points, 10 boards, 6 helpers, and 4 steals (with Caleb sinking four triples). Now that there are minutes and shots available, the brothers should emerge as major scoring options for the Wolfpack. Up front, Gottfried returns the burly and very talented triumvirate of BeeJay Anya, Lennard Freeman and Abdul-Malik Abu. In a perfect world, there would also be Kyle Washington, but in the crunch for minutes, Washington chose to transfer to Cincinnati. The worst bit of losing Washington is that he brought a different dimension to the NC St frontcourt as a big who could step out and make deep jump shots - he canned 7 of 13 triple tries last year. The returnees can devastate with their size, strength, and ridiculous wing spans, though. The trio combined to pull down 329 boards and blocked 116 shots last season, and will share the 80 minutes per night at the 4 and 5 spots for Gottfried. Abu stands to become the most improved of the trio, with his versatile inside scoring ability and athleticism. Off the court, Abu became known to the nation last season in the wake of the outrageous murders of a trio of Muslim students on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. Abu had known two of the murdered students - a husband and wife. At their wedding reception, Abu even promised to beat both Duke and UNC in a toast to the couple. Playing through the pain which Abu endured with public eloquence, the freshman forward delivered on his promise - both as a player and by keeping his word - immediately. Abu put up 10 points and 14 boards combined in NC St's wins over Duke and at North Carolina last year. In the Wolfpack's final four games last season, Abu posted 39 points and 25 rebounds, and his huge 13 and 12 double-double against Villanova played a major role in helping NC St upset the #1 seeded Wildcats. And this season, with NCAA Tournament experience on his side and hopefully a less emotionally-taxing year ahead, Abu is poised to further deliver on his elite talent. He's got quick-jump ability and is a mobile big guy who can get up and down the court. With good hands and touch around the rim, Abu should become a bigger scoring threat this year. And this summer he's added the three point shot to his arsenal: his sharpshooting video clips have received more than a bit of attention on social media. Abu is poised to become the centerpiece of Gottfried's frontcourt this year, and should grow into a consistent double double threat. Anya is a 6'9", wrecking ball with a 7'4 wingspan and, each of his summers with NC St, Anya has worked to get in better and better shape. Last year he was more effective running the floor, and he's capable of finishing around the rim. Defensively, Anya is one of the nations premier shot blockers. If things begin to click for Anya offensively, he could swiftly grow into a major every-game force for the Wolfpack. Freeman is not an above-the-rim player, yet has the power and attitude to finish around the rim and get all over the glass. Freeman wasn't able to take an expected step forward offensively last season, but this year, as the team's first big guy off the bench, he'll have another chance to become a reliable scoring option. He led the team with 70 offensive boards last season, and grabbed 11 or more boards in a game five times last season. And, like Abu, his double double against Villanova helped the Pack to a huge upset which they hope to parlay into even bigger success in 2015-16. Freeman is recovering from offseason surgery on his leg but should be good to go by the start of the regular season. The only freshmen joining Gottfried's roster this year are wings Rowan and Shaun Kirk. Rowan is going to have the chance to fill a major role immediately. At one time, Rowan was committed to Pitt, but he reopened his commitment as his stock rose during the past year, and NC St has benefited from that decision. Rowan is not a spectacular athlete, but boasts great length, tremendous shooting ability, and rapidly improving passing skills. A couple of years ago, Rowan was mostly considered a one-dimensional shooter. He's become a good ballhandler who can create plays now, and while he isn't a major threat to finish at the rim he has shown a better handle and willingness to work inside. If the Martin brothers aren't ready to improve, Rowan could definitely take some minutes from them on the wing. Kirk is a less-polished version of wing player, but he nonetheless gives Gottfried lineup flexibility and brings defensive potential to the lineup. He's athletic and will excel in transition, but his jump shot is not yet a finished product and Kirk will have to find consistency to push ahead in the crunch for minutes. This is a team that is, in many ways, very similar to the past couple of NC St teams. They are replacing enough key pieces to sap away some of the momentum from last season's strong finish; there has been transfer attrition and Gottfried is depending a lot upon some new faces; and of course, the ACC is very strong, and every game in conference play will be a battle for NC St. And yet, the core of this team has a good bit of postseason experience now. They have nationally-heralded talent and athleticism, and they've proven then can win big games against other great teams full of elite talents. It's very simple, really: the Wolfpack know that they are capable of becoming a great team. Will they put it all together? That's the big question. If Abu steps into a lead role, Henderson fits in with Barber, and the young wings provide plenty of scoring, NC St is going to be a Top 25 team. And if the kids can learn to be as good in the postseason as their veteran teammates, spring should continue to be the happiest season of the year for folks in Raleigh. "
