Nobody giving props to Tyler Lewis in this thread. Probably his best performance of the season and he kept us in it while Barber was busy being a freshman. I think you guys forget this last point sometimes.

Kept us in it = 10 point lead goes to 2 points

Doesn't take much of the sting out of this loss, but we are kind of in a fortunate position in that we have really shown improvement to the point that we can hang with a fairly strong club. Freshmen played like freshman and we got a little Ayers'ed, unfortunately. But I really didn't expect a tourney bid this year. I'm not changing that expectation.
12/29/2013 4:03:58 PM
I doubt we consistently play much better than we did yesterday, and we still lost at home to a team that will probably drop out of the top 25.
12/29/2013 4:12:00 PM
Lewis made some good plays and showed improved defensive footwork, but his inability to contest a pullup jumper due to a size mismatch resulted in a key 3 for Mizzou. Barber looked out of sync after sitting for foul trouble, but that doesn't mean you can take a victory lap for Lewis. There were positives and negatives for Lewis, much like everyone else on our time. If you can't see that you must not have watched the same game.

12/29/2013 5:13:58 PM
FYI, most of Warrens buckets in that game came off of drives from the 3 point line into the lane. Not to mention his assists when he broke down the defense. You are seeing what you want to see.The guy is elite at creating his own shot AND getting garbage points, and dumbass fans want to penalize him for that. It's not a beauty pageant -- all of his points don't have to be pretty. Why are we even talking about this like we shouldn't be getting him the ball on every possession? For being one of the most gifted scorers in school history it's fair to say he's not a great shot creator. He's more of a Matt Harpring type guy that just figures out a way to get 20 points efficiently without really forcing much. Which is exactly what any team should want. Focus on creating offense for your slightly less gifted scorers and then let him pick up 20 points off of rebounds, loose balls, defensive lapses, and small windows of opportunity that other players aren't skilled enough to take advantage of.He's got one of the lowest turnover ratios in the nation which is incredible for a guy who scores as much as he does. I think he's a very legitimate pro prospect, but i dont think it's a certainty that he's gone this year. His 3-pt shot is completely MIA this year, it's a deep draft, and he won't have much opportunity in the postseason to shine. NBAdraftnet has him going #14 in the 2015 draft, so he's not exactly burning up people's radars right now. Combine that with the fact that we look to be pretty damn good next season, and I think it's closer to 50/50 that he returns for his junior season.[Edited on December 29, 2013 at 5:55 PM. Reason : a]

warren won't make it in the nba until he has either a consistent 3ball, great ball handling or lockdown wing defense. If he leaves this year I'll be done with Gottfried.
12/29/2013 11:24:22 PM
We got a skokian, face, and e man post in a row. I don't know what to say but that I wish I could triforce.

tj is flying under the radar A LOT for how good he has been. i still see most places mocking glenn robinson iii ahead of him which is total bullshit. gr3 is more athletic than tj but he's also smaller and not as good. the only way we get tj back is if we stay out of the public eye all year which seems pretty unlikely given the number of games we have against syracuse, duke, unc and so onpeople will say thats all bullshit and the scouts will find you and thats right to an extent but hype still helps. it gets total scrubs like austin rivers drafted in the lottery. most of the guys who dont play on top teams that rise in the draft are athletic toolsheds or guys that project perfectly for a position who will look fantastic in pre-draft workouts. TJ doesnt really fit that, he needs a team to fall in love with his scoring. although i will say his on man defense is pretty solid compared to most of our recent nba prospects - the dumb habits he has on D will get coached out quick but it's harder to teach a guy to play man on D
12/30/2013 1:22:29 AM
Warren shoots too many 3s. He's by far our best player and we clearly need to get him as many looks as possible. But he's not a great 3 point shooter and that's not what we need him to be doing. And I'd be shocked if he doesn't go pro after this year. ^^^E Man, why would you be done with Gott if TJW goes pro? 12/30/2013 12:15:04 PM
lol at TJ Warren just "competing at the college level"....I'd say it's closer to him dominating at the college level.
12/30/2013 12:25:01 PM
Give TJ's mother a job and we can get him to stay
12/30/2013 12:27:51 PM
yeah his dominance has lead us to a 9-3 record. brown and leslie's dominance lead us to a 9 seed last year.theres no way last years team had a competent coach and 4 dominant players. +howell + wood + lewis as supporting cast.[Edited on December 30, 2013 at 12:32 PM. Reason : somethings got to give]
12/30/2013 12:32:01 PM
^ So who were our 4 dominant players if Howell was not one of them? CJL, Brown, and Warren = 3. Purvis was garbage. Also outside of Howell none of our "dominant" players were really that dominant consistently. CJL showed up like 1/3 of the time, Brown about half the time, and Warren was super efficient, but did not get enough looks.[Edited on December 30, 2013 at 4:34 PM. Reason : df]

Lol. CJ Leslie was the supporting cast last year. Guy was awful defensively and below average offensively.Howell was the only dominant player on the team.Lorenzo was a bit better than "supporting cast". And Wood was remarkably efficient so I'd classify him as better than supporting cast also even though his one dimensional nature might typically be seen as a supporting role.

face is right on this one.actually he's exaggerating the defense a bit cj wasnt a sieve he just had horrible discipline so he was slightly below average despite having the athleticism to be one of the best defenders in college
12/30/2013 10:16:07 PM
People also remember Calvin's turnovers on offense as a negative factor.
12/30/2013 10:19:43 PM

leslie was basically our mcadoo he had to go if he even wanted to get signedbrown was 4 years out of high school he had to go toopurvis being a headcase was a bigger problem. i guess gott figured he had to recruit him if he wanted to come but that really fucked us over

CJ Leslie made more in 6 weeks than anyone in this thread did the entire year. What are you talking about? It doesn't change the fact that he was nowhere close to dominant in college. 100 o-rating is AVERAGE and he was below that. Guy was downright terrible at times last year. I wouldn't even count his blocks as a positive because he missed so many goddam rebounds and box outs while going for those blocks. His steals were a positive but the guy was out of fucking position on so many plays who cares. How can anyone think he was a good defender when he routinely got abused against teams like Wake Forest? He was good at getting to the line but he didn't convert often enough for that to be a HUGE positive (though it certainly was a positive). He shot a pretty decent percentage. He was an okay rebounder. On the flip side he was a turnover princess, often out of position defensively, and lacked basic basketball savvy. No one would argue with any of this.Dominant? Are you kidding me. Grant Hill was dominant. Ty Lawson was dominant. CJ Leslie was a forgettable ACC player. Lot of hype, not a lot of substance.Jesus his freshman year he was nearly unplayable for god's sake. He had what a hot ten game stretch at the end of his sophomore season? That's not enough to consider someone dominant. And contrary to popular belief going back to school is usually a terrible option and it normally costs a player money. James Mcadoo has destroyed his career by coming back twice and has probably cost himself more money the last two years than he will make in his lifetime.[Edited on December 30, 2013 at 11:47 PM. yea mcadoo is an idiot I remember he was getting mocked at #7 after his freshman year. even if you say he falls to 15 the #15 draft pick in the nba gets a fully guaranteed contract for 1.5 mil/yr for 3 yearsSo he's already punted at least 3mil (the #7 is like 2.4m/yr) by staying in college for 2 years and when you consider when he does go pro he's probably going in either the back end of the first round which is like 900k a year or the 2nd round where if you get cut you get nothing unless you sign with the Knicks who are retards and partially guarantee rookie contracts (good job CJ) mcadoo is pretty much a total moron. no way even unc can pay that much. maybe uk could[Edited on December 31, 2013 at 10:02 AM. Reason : teams can actually go +/- 20% of the #s listed but youre less likely to get 120% on a non-lotto team]
12/31/2013 10:01:25 AM
face's last post was fucking money. Earl's last two posts resulted in a lower IQ for all who read them. Seriously Earl keeps bringing up guys leaving for the draft and Purvis being a selfish bitch as a reason to get rid of Gott. Not every coach is going to be Coach K and get all his talent to stick around for 3-4 years. CJL leaving last year was his best move and he got paid. Brown had no choice really as he was already 22 and knew he wasn't getting drafted with this monster class next year. Purvis can eat a dick for transferring when he would have gotten 25-30 mpg this season. Can't blame Gott for any of those losses. And you can't blame him when Warren leaves.
12/31/2013 11:16:23 AM
I'm amazed at how many people think you can only develop in college. If you go pro you can work on your game a lot more.
