Canes were playing for overtime, didn't play to try to win or put any pressure on the Bruins D. I knew Boston would score when they started to get timid and try to run the clock out.

What's the deal with not having Forslund being piped in during the replay of the Hurricanes goals? I really enjoyed it last year and haven't heard squat this year. If not Forslund, pipe in some Kaiton. Either way, BRING IT BACK.

we always manage to lose in the last few minutes of regulation so as not to even get the point.

Bet a buddy $50 we make the playoffs tongiht after the game. What do you think our chances are, 55-60%?

honestly, if we can stay healthy, yes, i think we're a playoff team - 7th or 8th seed, but in.

but we can't afford to lose any of our pivotal players - we saw that last night with faulk. Not that he single handedly wins games for us, but he does draw teams away from the net when he's next to the blue line, opening up better lanes for our snipers - and that's an asset that most of our other D men don't have.

Watched the highlights since I was locked up in the bowels of the arena last night and didnt get to catch any of it, but from what I saw...I'm glad I didn't. More terrible puck control by our D in our own zone. Cam still rusty, and on their 4th goal looked like he was just going through the motions, not actually playing at game speed. And going with a halfassed pad stack on the Horton goal? Man. No reason to not go with a veteran who's hot right now for the Ottawa game.

Our offensive kinks are being worked out early this season as expected, but there is lots to be optimistic about. The defense ain't just a kink, though. Surely ole Pimp Hand realizes we've got to make a deal soon.

Chad LaRose not at practice today and is swapped out as the guest tonight on Canes Corner with Justin Faulk.

I'd like to think that means JR is getting ready to deal him, but I know better than that.

EDIT: Apparently it was just an allergic reaction to something he ate this morning.

This is hilarious...so Patrice Bergeron went after Skinner last night because he thought Skinner slewfooted him. Here's the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=s4nCj-rSuq4

So today, Brad Marchand of all people, calls him out on it:

Quote :
"Skinner slew-foots all the time,” Marchand said Tuesday. “He’s always doing that to guys and I think Bergy just had enough of it. We even spoke about it before the game in the room. The guys were talking about how much he slew foots and you’ve got to watch out for him. You can see it’s very blatant. He kicks his legs out and throws him back."

I know Skinner has the reputation of a whiner (which is deserved sometimes), and there was the whole kicking incident last year, but this clearly was not a slew foot. Skinner is in clear pursuit of the puck behind the net, and Bergeron, who was in front of the goal line, skates back to take away the ice from Skinner. They get tangled up and both go down. I can understand how Bergeron maybe felt like he was slewfooted, but he was more to blame than anyone...could've been interference on him.

I can't say Skinner isn't building a reputation, but to call that a slew-foot is a fucking joke. Add it to the list of reasons to hate Boston and their fans. And fuck Marchand: http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=60&id=148388

Watching it once in real time, perhaps I could see where someone might find that to be a slew foot. But watching it again at a slower pace, it's not even close.

First off, Skinner dragging that one leg behind is not only an extremely common move of his (likely stemming from figure skating), but he's about to skate between two people, making it necessary. Second, Bergeron's stick is straight across Skinner's body, which takes what would have been a bump in a crowded area behind the net to dragging them both down.

I was thinking of saying the same thing.

Am I making up in my head that he and Sutter were good buddies? Maybe it'll work out for him there on a more permanent basis.

Today at work I went and looked at the 2008 draft for kicks and giggles. Our former boy Zach Boychuk was 14th overall. Other notables include

1. Steven Stamkos
2. Drew Doughty
3. Zach Bogosian
5. Luke Schenn
15. Erik Karlsson (doh!)
22. Jordan Eberle

I don't remember much about who we were going after in that draft, but you think JR would've had a hard on for Erik Karlsson.

JR hates drafting defense in the first round

Have we ever considered that as a goalie from a less defense-oriented era, JR feels his goaltending records are besmirched by a lack of defense, and is therefore angling for his own goalies to be similarly disadvantaged?!?!

[/except no one on facebook knows JR even played]

I think I read somewhere that we were actually going for Dalpe with our first rounder, and that we thought Boychuk would be off the board by then. In their eyes, Boychuk slid to them and they still got Dalpe in the second round, i bet there were mad bro hugs all around.

At least Dalpe is looking like a fit on the second line. Of course Karlsson or Eberle would be nasty

i've probably taken it at least 30 times (downtown route) since 2010, and it's been a solid experience 95% of the time

however this season has been rough for them starting out -- i always post up at raleigh times and see how many pbrs i can pound until it shows up.

didn't show up tonight -- or maybe was stupid early? I was upstairs but got down to street level with at least 10 minutes cushion. i was out there until 6:45.

i mean its free, so that's cool, but getting drunk in anticipation for taking the bus isn't conducive to then having to hurry up and drive to the arena.

that being said, I wrote a quick complaint to the service, and I just got back an apology and an offer for two free tickets to another game this season, as well as assurances that they'll get the logistics smoothed out.

my advice, if you want to take the bus, take the glenwood south bus to the game -- the driver has been the same person the few times ive taken it, and he's prompt. HOWEVER -- make sure you get on at an early stop on the glenwood bus, that shit gets full quick. we were standing in the front of the bus to the bruins game on Monday.

i'm gonna keep taking it, but i might switch to the glenwood bus until downtown gets its shit together. because there's nothing better than getting mega drunk with a free ride to the game. downtown bus was ROWDY for buffalo.

[Edited on February 1, 2013 at 8:08 PM. Reason : also added two unlisted stops on hillsborough, adds 15 minutes to the trip -- think they'll cut that]
