How many people have you had to shoot? Kill?

I just want to say that I appreciate your (and other officers') work and that I'm glad this thread exists. Hopefully it continues to be active for a long time. I feel like there are a number of honest questions asked here and the reciprocal feedback is great ]
6/17/2012 12:47:33 PM
where do your opinions and actions fall within the spectrum of your fellow officers?
6/17/2012 12:55:07 PM
If you respond to a noise complaint due to a private party, how likely are cops going to want to enter the house if: 1) most everyone visible is obviously 21+2) there's nudity and fetish costumesAnd what would be their reasoning? And if a cop enters the house, the partiers don't have to put on clothes, do they?
6/17/2012 1:23:10 PM
what would be your reasoning for letting them in the house?
6/17/2012 1:27:57 PM
I ride a bike as my daily driver and I'd say it doesnt trip a good third of the stoplights i come to. I know most of the lights in Raleigh and at night when the likelihood of another car pulling up behind me is low i plan my route so as to avoid them where possible but I still end up running a good number of reds. I know there is some 3-minitiute law or something like that but at lights that i KNOW through experience will not change I'll run it almost immediately if there is noone around. How lenient are most officers with motorcyclists running reds?[Edited on June 17, 2012 at 1:38 PM. Reason : sorry for terrible writing this phone makes long passages difficult]
6/17/2012 1:32:39 PM
We wouldn't want them to enter but sometimes someone answers the door who doesn't know how to say "no" if the cop asks to come in.

One more than one occasion, I have debated kidnapping paerabol, and Sanduskying him in an abandoned shed out in the woods. Do you have any advice on how not to get caught?
6/17/2012 1:37:58 PM
^^then those ignorant people shouldn't be on your "invite" list.^You can't take paerabol, he's a limited resource, and his disappearance would most certainly go noticed.]

You assume, by use of the term "kidnap," that I would not take part in this adventure willingly. You ought not be so presumptuous, sir. Also, related bike question:Ive been pulled for speeding probably 8-10 times over my time riding but only one has ended up in a ticket. Usually it's just a quick "License and registration? This thing ain't stolen? Any warrants? Aight man slow down and be safe." Now, knock on wood, I'm not complaining and I appreciate the humanism but what's going on here?
6/17/2012 1:51:00 PM
^^, ^^^ Who?
6/17/2012 1:51:21 PM
Sex parties aren't illegal, right?Like say if a cop asks to come in and you say "I would prefer you didn't because there is sex and nudity happening"....Or would that just make the cop just want to come in more to take a peek a kinky fuckery occurring?

But is that ever enforced? Unmarried people have sex all the time...it would be pretty rude to enforce it just because multiple people are having sex with each other.
6/17/2012 2:20:20 PM
^ ^^ I thought that law was declared unconstitutional or something? Is there really as much hostility and loathing of IA amongst regular cops as portrayed in TV shows, or is it bull.
6/17/2012 2:47:35 PM

What if you're at a red light that doesn't allow right turns and you've sat there for 5 min without it changing, obviously there is a sensor that won't trip and it's not going to change. This has happened to me and I actually considered calling the police station.

When the renter of the apartment is asking to have the other removed can you remove that person? I'm not sure if I'm following. I think you're saying that most of these calls are made where someone is not legally trespassing. Is that correct?Granted, I don't think the non-resident would stick around long enough for the police to get there, although this would still serve a public good since they wouldn't have left without the imminent threat of police.
6/18/2012 2:40:43 PM
If you're at an intersection of two one way streets can you turn left on red?

If you guys are working an 11-7 shift do you ever pull behind people and turn on your lights for no reason other than to see how they respond? I was once driving home from work after a false burglar alarm at my office at about 1:30 am on a week night, saw a cop just sitting on a side street while I was driving down a main thoroughfare, he pulls out behind me and turns his lights on (I wasn't speeding or anything), so I pull over to the side of the road, which didn't have a shoulder so I pulled over the best I could, then he just flew on right past me and shortly ahead turned off his lights. I suppose he could've been going to a call, but I don't know why he would've turned his lights off after I pulled over.]
6/18/2012 7:49:23 PM
ever pull over someone in a drive thru? like you're catching a quick meal and you notice the car in front of you is missing a tail light/expired tags something of that nature, would you pull him? I can see the taco bell drive thru form my bedroom and would love to see someone pulled over in the drive thru but nothing
6/18/2012 7:52:18 PM
are you any less likely to pull over a car with a permanent license plate? like a state (or county) owned vehicle...
6/18/2012 8:21:51 PM
^And on that note, if you clock a car speeding but notice it is a recent model Crown Vic or Charger, are you less likely to pull them over in case it is a LEO in an unmarked cruiser? What happens if you inadvertently try to pull over a fellow officer from a different agency in an unmarked, or would they be able to get on their radio and call you off?If a cop in a vehicle with full markings outside their jurisdiction was doing something seemingly unsafe (like say a sheriff's deputy from Forsyth county was doing 90 on the beltline in their squad car) would they be likely to get pulled over, or is it assumed that the average officer can handle their vehicle well enough for it to not be an issue?

if you run a plate on an out of state car, how much information comes up?can you then run the driver's name to see warrants/probation status/ccw/etc?

Does the speed limit for a road begin after the sign, or when you see it? For example, when I get on Wade from the belt line theres a section where it's 40-45 or so and then when it merges with 40 West it says 60. Can I accelerate to 60 because I can see it at the light or do I technically have to wait until my car physically passes the sign? How often do you pull sports bikes for speeding? Do they often try to get away, and how successful are they? I had been under the impression cops didn't like pulling them because of the liklihood to get away.On that same note, are there times when cars/bike evade where the speed they reach is so unsafe that you call off the chase rather than risk a major crash for you or them?
6/19/2012 5:37:35 PM
why do some stretches of interstates have 65 mph speed limits while others are 70? and do you find that most people adjust their speed accordingly when it drops to 65? because i definitely do not adjust my speed...just wondering what the norm is. (i'm guessing the 65 pmh vs 70 mph limits are based on many factors...# of lanes, if the road is straight or a little curved, urban areas with more traffic vs rural areas with less, etc)
6/19/2012 6:25:51 PM
6/19/2012 6:32:57 PM
^yeah i figured the DOT controlled all that, i just didn't know if you knew of any reasoning.
6/19/2012 6:40:29 PM
Ugh, there was a slow as hell state trooper on 264 today going ~65 and traffic was, of course, lined up behind him.Apparently I was the only one that had enough balls to just pass the guy and go on my way./random tuff guy story[Edited on June 19, 2012 at 6:49 PM. Reason : ]
