Except this is not about supporting a sin. It's about legal rights. Especially since marriage is a legal action, which endows certain rights in this country. For example, if I thought homosexuality was sinful, but suddenly it was passed into law and gay marriage is allowed, is the action suddenly less sinful because the state has mandated legal action. No, sinful nature of the action does not change because the world says something different about it. The simple fact of the matter is, you cannot and never will be able to bring people to Christ by conforming the world to Biblical standards. Seeing as you have control over your own actions, you can set a standard for your lifestyle based on Christ, but you cannot change the world into Christ's image. And if you believe in Revelation you know that the final judgement occurs after the world has completely fallen into it's most sinful state (as it was before Noah and the flood). So while you can attempt to prolong the morality of the world (which barely applies here, because it does not arguably decrease the amount of homosexuality), you will never be able to conform the world to the image of Christ. And any world that is not the exact image of Christ, and thus sinless is not good enough to escape final judgement.

^ This. They had a preacher on NPR this morning saying that voting for this amendment is supporting a lifestyle of disease and death. You simply cannot have a logical, reasonable discussion with someone like that.

4/25/2012 9:33:46 PM
it's really embarrassing that not only do we have to vote against this, but that this amendment isn't to overturn the laws against gay marriage already on the books. We're going two steps in the wrong direction.

Still waiting on LeonIsPro to let us know which god is doing the judging.Anybody else think its odd that the christian god loves you unconditionally (under the condition you love his son) but Lucifer accepts anyone?Anyway, vote against this amendment.

Where in the bible does it say that we are supposed to police sin? I thought the deal was I could choose to act out sin here in exchange for eternal damnation. Getting punished here and in eternity is unfair. Let us sin christians. PleaseI'm Krallum and I approved this message.

The third from the bottom is the one that's most perplexing to me. Most who are for this claim to be conservative christian republicans. How can they justify voting for a freakin' constitutional amendment for big government to intefere in americans' private lives? Once again, it boils down to "The government needs to be as small as possible, and shouldn't tread on me.... but if i agree with it, it can tread on others." it's so hypocritical.
4/26/2012 4:52:43 PM
^You do realize those are statements from people AGAINST amendment one, right?
4/26/2012 4:54:01 PM
yes i do. perhaps i didn't word it right, but i agree with that conservative republican. i find the conservative christian republicans who are against it perplexing because they should be against big government, no matter which side asks for it.
4/26/2012 4:55:51 PM
Ah, okay. I agree with you then. I thought you found her sentiment perplexing.

A true conservative doesn't base law on religious beliefs, doesn't make laws to increase the size/power/scope of government, etc. Christian conservatives would do these things, thus christian conservative != real conservative. Sure, their bubbles overlap on a venn diagram, but there are clear distinctions.

Did anyone every figure out what the amendment will actually say? What was passed in the legislature or what's going to be on the ballot?

Here's the text:
4/27/2012 8:56:04 AM
haha, yeh, so? I'm sure there are plenty of people who see clear differences between the groups. A lot of my conservative friends are Christians. Most disagree with the amendment, so I'm inclined to differentiate those friends who agree with the amendment; this also extends beyond this issue, but this is a good example.
4/27/2012 8:56:22 AM
well my only reservation is that it's rather blanketed in it's approach.there's so many subsets of conservatism that simply separating "christian conservative" from "real conservative" doesn't really do the ideological framework justice.
4/27/2012 8:59:37 AM
There are Christian conservatives, and then there are "conservatives" who seek to create a Christian state with "conservative" measures like Amendment One. Two pretty different things.]
4/27/2012 9:02:35 AM
^^well yeh, but there are labels that do define groups. In reality, no single label accurately describes any group of people; everyone is a bit different. You have to draw lines somewhere. To say it's a blanketed approach or doesn't do justice applies to any general description of any group of people. Just calling right-leaning people conservatives is a blanketed approach that doesn't do justice. My take on conservative politics is very different than a pastor's take on conservative politics; why are we lumped together as conservatives?[Edited on April 27, 2012 at 9:06 AM. Reason : .]
