I kind of see the Hulk question as being answered by multiple hulks from the comic. I think if he changes involuntarily you get the "savage hulk" whereas if he does it intentionally you get something more akin to the current version of the hulk, which retains at least some of Banner's intelligence and personality.

5/10/2012 2:04:13 PM
yeah it's one of those things in the comics that has been retconned a few times, so nobody's really sure.i think, though, for the movie's purposes, he does heal faster... i mean he DID survive being frozen in ice for almost 75 years.
5/10/2012 2:06:33 PM
here's a quick size comparison from the 2 Hulk movies:http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2428153856/tt0800080http://i.imgur.com/CDOc5.jpgassuming blonsky and hawkeye are approximately the same size, hulk may be SLIGHTLY smaller in Avengers. he's also more hunched over though, so it's hard to tell.

He also mentioned in the Captain America movie that he can't get drunk, similar to Wolverine.
5/10/2012 2:54:50 PM
I think Wolverine can get drunk. He just recovers quickly.

so because he can fly, has heat vision and is strong he therefore has every power... I'm not a huge Superman fan but I've read enough DC comics where he's been beaten pretty badly by several repeat villains.Lex has beaten his ass so many times that I've lost count. His only "ability" is genius level intelligence.[Edited on May 10, 2012 at 3:20 PM. Reason : .]

If I'm not mistaken, there's a somewhat clear connection to Wolverine in the Avenger's movie series... First, the most obvious, is when Thunderbolt Ross in the Incredible Hulk talks about the two Canadians failing to bring Hulk to justice. He doesn't give names, but it could be pre-conflict Wolverine and another from the Weapon X program.Second, the Super Soldier program that Cap was part of is talked about as also being similar to "what the Canadians were working on," leading me to believe this too could be the Weapon X program. Finally, and it's iffy, is the whole "what is captain america's shield made from?" Now, in the comics it's been long-known that it's Vibranium. However, in the movies, they've left this sort of thing open. All we know is that the shield is made from the same element that Tony Stark's IM2 chest piece is made from, and that Howard Stark was the one who discovered it. It's never said that it's vibranium, but at the same time, it's also never said that it's not adamantium. So who knows.I'd love for Marvel to shell out some of that Avengers money to buy back the X-Men/Wolverine franchise.

"Can I help?" "Are you a beer?" HA!
5/10/2012 3:45:00 PM
5/10/2012 4:11:39 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong but the main thing about the shield being made from vibranium is that it absorbs all kinetic energy, right? Hence why Thor can hit the shield with all of his might and Captain America not even be pushed into the ground. In contrast, adamantium is just a super strong metal?(although I guess that doesn't make sense with bullets bouncing off the shield)
5/10/2012 4:15:24 PM
Yeah its description is that it absorbs all kinetic energy but often it's more like it reflects all kinetic energy back the way it came while absorbing none of it.It it did what it claimed it would drop immediately after he hit somethign with a shield throw.

haven't seen this yetbut its at 93% on Rottentomatoes.comis that really really high, or do new movies often get great ratings and eventually go down?

I'm sure you'll download it regardless

i'm looking forward to watching it, just didnt know if the RT rating was super high or common among new releases

thought cap's shield was a mix of vibranium and adamantium
5/10/2012 5:38:33 PM
In the comics I'm pretty sure it's a Vibranium/Steel alloy that has never been duplicated and is harder than Adamantium.

via the wiki this is what his comic shield is made of:

Saw it yesterday and loved it. I had one small stupid nitpicky problem with a line though...spoiler!!I love one liners as much as the next guy, but the one after Coulson shoots Loki "so that's what it does" could have, and should have, totally been left out. The line just bothered me. Why out of the whole movie does THAT stick out? I dunno. But as soon as he said it I wished he hadn't. /rantend spoiler[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 8:30 AM. Reason : Oops]
5/11/2012 8:28:18 AM
^ There were a couple they could have left out...but yeah, that one was probably the worst.I liked the one-liners, I just think they could have taken out 1/4 of them. It almost made it feel like a 1/2 comedy, 1/2 action film.
5/11/2012 8:38:05 AM
What in the hell is your problem with that line? I thought the movie had the perfect balance of comedy and action. That's one of its strengths!
5/11/2012 9:15:20 AM
you guys nitpick THE DUMBEST SHITever read a comic book before? one liners are all over comic books and many are far worse than that...
5/11/2012 9:18:21 AM
And I agree with you. Good balance. Loved all the other one liners. I was chuckling more than any of the other folks in the theatre when I saw it yesterday (and I was the ONLY one to stay for the second credit scene--more chuckles!). That one was the only one that I didn't like. To me, it was better to see him get blasted across the room and cut to the next scene than have that line. To me. I said it was nitpicky. I know that. I don't think I'd be able to explain it any better than acknowledging that i know it's nitpicky and that I just didn't like that one line. And yes I've read a comic book...the comedy and action is what makes them so great. I just didn't like that one...and now that's all imma say about that. Great movie...would see again [Edited on May 11, 2012 at 9:23 AM. Reason : ]

To me, it tied into his extremely recent "I don't even know what it does" line when he was threatening Loki with it before he got stabbed. And given that Coulson was inches from death it not only was funny but poignant and completely within his slightly snarky, even-toned character.
5/11/2012 9:26:08 AM
Cool.

Regarding the powers or Captain america:Remember this incarnation of the avengers is based on the Ultimate marvel universe. In the ultimate universe Cap's powers are way more than in the normal marvel universe. He is stronger faster and has better senses. I believe he even tangles with the Hulk successfully in the ultimates. Basically except for the X-mutants in the ultimate universe just about everyone's powers are related to the super soldier program somehow. That may be an exaggeration but is not too far off. If anything Cap was underpowered in his movie and the avengers.
5/11/2012 10:07:06 AM
Ultimate Yawn
5/11/2012 10:09:58 AM
What's the universe where Iron Man is an authoritative douche that takes it upon himself to enforce some no secret identity law? I picked up a couple of books in that universe and it's pretty lame. Not X-Men teenage WB drama lame, but lame nonetheless.

this thread is starting to derail...
5/11/2012 11:54:48 AM
^^ are you talking about the superhero registration act? that was the normal marvel universe. seems like there were hints of it in that final news sequence.
5/11/2012 12:03:37 PM
saw this last night... i'm not a comic book person, but I absolutely loved this movie (and have been impressed with the web of movies and tie-ins building up to this... i have a man-crush on robert downy jr's Tony Stark)I too was confused about how the hulk suddenly got control... My best guess is that Bruce Banner had gained more control of it than he let on, except for the part when loki's staff seemed to be artificially creating anger between everyone on the heli-carrier thing.[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 12:35 PM. it'd be kinda cool to do civil war, but you'd need the whole marvel universe, including the portions that fox owns the rights too.
