Breaking news from four years ago: People are now saying Pelosi should go.More breaking news: Democrat Jon "Handel Beat My" Ossoff called for campaign finance reform during the most expensively futile congressional campaign defeat ever (emphasis on congressional, as another wonan beat his ossoff for most expensively futile campaign defeat ever, generally).Q1: Did he want to lose by an even larger margin?Q2: Would a larger defeat mean an even larger moral victory?
6/22/2017 12:25:24 AM
Pelosi is very intelligent and experienced. She not a particularly great communicator however. When she talks voters hear charlie brown teacher voice. Dems need people in senior positions that can cut through white noise.

She's a bad communicator because she's slippin'

what is this even about?
7/14/2017 8:27:34 AM
The guy who was the subject of a WSJ article about a GOP operative that said he tried to work with Russia to get Clinton's emails killed himself.
7/14/2017 8:31:48 AM
Russia typically poisons you or pushes you out of a hotel window. I chalk this up to a suicide, especially considering he left shit for WSJ behind. You'd think a killer would have grabbed that shit.Actually, there was an article (or series of articles?) that I think dtownral posted somewhere that went through all of the suspected assassinations in England due to Russian intelligence where like two or three were poisonings and the rest were literally "suicide by falling out of a hotel window."
7/14/2017 9:21:08 AM
"A Better Deal?" Why isn't it the "Best Deal, huh?" Think about it. Why aren't they enacting [insert your pie-in-the-sky preferred policy agenda here] RIGHT FUCKING NOW HUH? Gahhhhh, just typical Conservadems head faking us with their double speak.
7/24/2017 1:50:26 PM
Annnnnnnnddddddddddd..................They totally proved the above right. I expected the actual legislation to be incremental, not the "overall vision." They're really sticking their necks out on this one.
7/24/2017 3:04:51 PM
^^needless scarcasm aside, this is exactly what i'd like to see from Dems. but my skepticism isn't going away.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/24/opinion/chuck-schumer-employment-democrats.html
7/24/2017 3:07:31 PM
Really? Is this not just more incrementalism? Is it the tone that people are liking?Well I had planned to parade "A Better Deal" around and point out how progressive it is, rub your face in it the best I could, but I really don't think they stick their necks out at all on this. The actual proposed points:Infrastructure plan/spending - yea yea yea, we all agree we need this. Even 1/2 the GOP presidential field had some kind of infrastructure plan.Lower cost of prescriptions - Dems literally had a chance to move bills like this out of congress earlier this year and failed, and it was mostly a handful of Dem's fault. Not to mention this is the definition of incrementalism when it comes to tackling our problems in healthcare.Bust up Monopolies - Ok, this one is actually legitimately huge and I'll give significant credit to the Dems for this one. That being said I'm not sure this one plays well with the average voter, that may not make the connection that monopolies are helping fuel inequality.Tax credits to employers for job training - this is about the biggest "meh" proposal they could ever produce.Every single point in this either was a plank in Hillary's platform or was along the same lines as one. Hell Hillary used the exact words "A Better Deal" in several of her stump speeches.

^^ yes, tone is importanttone is important because 1) you have to win first and 2) if you have a message that people support and believe in you can move policy more and more towards those ideals as people believe in it more and more and extreme things become more normal. the right understands this, the left does not yet but maybe they are figuring it out.
7/25/2017 8:24:38 AM
I would add that a drift away from identity politics is a refreshing change as well. That doesn't mean they can no longer be a voice and agent of change for those who need it most but it is a much-needed shift. It's almost hard to fathom it took losing to a crazy person to figure it out.

Support your local DSA chapter if you're tired of waiting for Democrats to stop being the party of their corporate sponsorshttp://www.dsausa.org/

Right when the democratic party indicates a move away from focusing on identity politics first, the GOP via Trump makes sure they have to stay with a hot button identity politics issue
7/26/2017 10:38:40 AM
They should (key word) be able to strongly rebuke it while not allowing it to overshadow other parts of the platform. Of course we've been down this road before..

I wonder if the sheepdog KNOWS he is the sheepdog? It's an organized chaos, designed to give liberal/progressives the belief they have a say in deciding who their candidate is going to be (ex: Superdelegates). On the right, it was similar in 2012 with the Ron Paul movement, of which I supported. How many right-leaning people in 2012 voted for someone other than $Rmoney? How many left-leaving people in 2016 voted for someone other than Clinton? The only real difference is The Trump Phenomenon. His twitter campaign and attack on the right and left had the establishment (politicians and the media) believing:1) He wouldn't win the Republican Nomination (Krauthammer, Cristol, etc.), and/or2) He wouldn't win the General (everybody)So...did Trump, as crazy as he is sometimes, help beat back the establishment?I think it's hard to say.Imagine Clinton had won the General. I think her administration would be as mired in investigations as Trump's is.The only difference would be the media would be doing just the opposite they are now: Instead of playing up the "crises," they would be playing down.Regardless, Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party (DNC, DCCC, etc.) believed they would have a permanent majority for the foreseeable future and didn't invest at all into grooming, mentoring, and developing young Democrats to build the party. So when Trump did the unthinkable and trounced Clinton (and excited people who were sick of Washington politics), with a similar result in both houses, the Democrats were left a leaderless, bi-coastal party with no real identity and no way forward. And as horrible a job the Republicans in Congress have done since January, the Democrats are STILL lost in the woods. The only question is which party will come around first? My bet? The Republicans.Trump is going to continue to micro-aggravate the liberals, progressives, socialists, and media on the left and keep them paralyzed.
