http://obsweatherguy.blogspot.com/2011/09/katias-future-look-to-japan.htmlInteresting read, says that the strength of a tropical storm near Japan (Talas) should have a trickle down effect on whether Katia will hit the east coast or veer out to seaweak Talas --> Katia makes landfallstrong Talas --> Katia steers away from coast

THE HORROR
9/4/2011 6:36:03 PM
listening to npr today and they were talking about thishttp://ipwatchdog.com/2009/07/13/bill-gates-seeks-patent-on-hurricane-prevention/id=4576/this article doesn't actually go into what the devices physically are but it would be basically 100's of giant tubes suspended vertically in the ocean with the lip at the very edge of the water. as the waves crash over the lip the warm water would be forced down into the depths of the ocean displacing the cold water and forcing it up. sounded pretty interesting
9/6/2011 7:59:01 PM
I don't think he should do that....he is ruining our opportunities for hurricane parties and hurricane days at work.
9/6/2011 8:31:17 PM
disaster cleanup companies will be devastated if his invention works
9/6/2011 8:45:31 PM
theres gotta be some sort of environmental repercussion, thats a pretty massive affect to the climate
9/6/2011 8:47:52 PM
Yeah...I mean damn...just let weather happen.
9/6/2011 8:49:45 PM
why you gotta be all fucking with the weather and shit
9/6/2011 8:51:59 PM
Yea Greg Fischel was talking about how important hurricanes were for heat displacement between the poles. Or some shit like that.
9/6/2011 8:54:14 PM
that (the hurricane tube thing) was in a book i read. super freakonomics maybe? idk. lemme search a bityes, it was super freakonomics. the guy whose idea it was is Nathan Myhrvold. iirc, it was initially his idea, not bill gates' idea.[Edited on September 6, 2011 at 8:59 PM. Reason : ]
