Yeah, but we're talking about moving ocean water. Not controlled experiments in a lab.

Who knows what the conditions would be with pooling flood waters. Also, salinity might go up with the soil mixing.

Point is, it would've been a really messed up situation with water THAT cold. Pretty much if you get wet, you'd be dead.

Well, if we're talking about stupid hypotheticals lets stop and reflect on how awful it would have been if the tsunami had been on fire when it struck land.

i had a test on freezing pt depression and boiling pt elevation this morning so lets figure this out right now!

freezing/melting points are directly proportional to movement, all kinetics.

for example, take pure water that freezes at 0°C. you freeze it to that point and then apply force to make flow and move (in nature). when you take the temperature of the water again it will not 0°C anymore, it will have risen.
therefore, it is impossible to have flowing 0°C water.
so claiming that nature can change the freezing point of a water is invalid.

so....when you convert the F (water freezes at 32°F which is 0°C and -2°F is about -18°C). this is a depression of 18°C. 0.9 g of NaCl causes a depression of .52 and by proportionality 31 g of NaCl will cause a depression of 18°C (per 100 mL).
so if the salt water has a sodium chloride equivalent of 31%, then yes farenheit is completely plausible.

GAME SET MATCH BITCHES (i hope i did that math right cause if i didnt imma feel dumb)

sea water is 3.56wt% salt...but it also has other minerals and shit

your solution is 23wt% salt (100g water + 31g salt)

^thats why i used the term "NaCl equivalent"
im not using wt/wt %....im using wt/volume%.

I'm sure either way is fine, wt/vol comes out to ~3.7%, I was just thinking that ocean water generally has a lot less salt than that

^maybe its a medical thing, but % wt/volumes are out of 100 mL, not per mL.
(but if you are talking about ml, then it would be .317%....how are you getting 3.7%?)

I was saying 3.56wt% = 3.56g NaCl w/ 96.44g water (total wt 100g, 3.56g/100g = 3.56wt%), 3.56g/96.44mL = 0.0369g/mL = ~3.7wt/vol%

With 31g NaCl per 100mL, 31g/100mL = 0.31g/mL = 31wt/vol%

Though that's all per mL, I suppose per 100mL would be different

I'm just sayin that to get that high freezing temp depression it seems its a shit ton more salt than is already in the ocean, since based on your calcs the water would need a lot of salt to get that low in Fahrenheit.

What was the original question again?

Alright so I think its supposed to be °C afterall though seawater would probably freeze at -2 to -6 F

Yeah, it takes me back to the good ol' days

This article makes me pretty hard

http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFLDE72G00Y20110317?sp=true

Quote :
"Japan a robot power everywhere except at nuclear plant

TOKYO, March 17 (Reuters) - Japan may build robots to play the violin, run marathons and preside over weddings, but it has not deployed any of the machines to help repair its crippled reactors.

While robots are commonplace in the nuclear power industry, with EU engineers building one that can climb walls through radioactive fields, the electric power company running Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi plant has not deployed any for the nuclear emergency.

Instead, its skeleton team has been given the unenviable and perhaps deadly task of cooling reactors and spent nuclear fuel on their own, only taking breaks to avoid over-exposure.

A science ministry official said a robot used to detect radiation levels is at the site of the accident in Fukushima, north of Tokyo, but nuclear safety agency official Hidehiko Nishiyama said: "We have no reports of any robots being used."

That robot would have come in handy early on Thursday when workers monitoring radiation had to back away from the plant because it was becoming too hot.

I mean, of all the shit to report on, you go for fuckin' robot use?

Actually, that article is right.

Out of all applications for robots, this would probably be in the top ten most useful scenarios to build and deploy robots.

Our company had a team that did an internals removal of the Fukushima 4 reactor.

They were there on high ground when the wave hit. They saw all the tanks get carried out to see. They had to make there way to Tokyo to get out through all the craziness that ensued.

NUTS
