Anyone found any good deals on pre-orders? I see that Amazon now has a $10 Amazon credit promo. I know for BO they got up to a $20 credit. Anybody found a better deal?

Getting free double-XP bonuses for buying Pepsi products.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2011/09/28/modern-warfare-3s-pepsi-cross-promotion-steps-over-the-line/

Quote :
"I can understand a studio and a brand attempting to work together to figure out some sort of reasonable ad campaign for an upcoming game, as there’s nothing inherently wrong with that concept. Product placement or cross promotion is nothing new in the industry, but this new collaboration between Pepsi and Activision is nothing short of unholy.

The promotion is called “Rank Up XP,” and the long and short of it is that by buying certain Pepsi products, namely Mountain Dew and Doritos, players can redeem codes in the packaging for Double XP time in Modern Warfare 3. A 20 oz gets you 15 minutes, a 12 pack gets you 45, and so on.

Why is this a problem? Because XP is currency in these games, and whoever has more of it first is at a distinct advantage. More XP, especially when the game is new, means more weapons, more perks, more attachments, more killstreaks, and subsequently, usually more wins. Offering Double XP to someone who purchases Pepsi products is selling out about as much as you can, and for a franchise that’s already been accused of pushing the limits with “Elite” monthly membership and overpriced map packs, it goes to show that Activision will exploit its fans in any way they can.

I though the line was being drawn with pre-order bonuses promising weapons and attachments that couldn’t be found in the actual game, but to me, this is a new low for an industry that wants to keep digging. Many companies are guilty of trying to squeeze blood out of the stone, but Activision in particular appears to be more than OK with abusing its customer base for the sake of some quick advertising cash. I understand you want to maximize on a popular game’s appeal, but when your last title sells $360M worth of copies in 24 hours, and this new title is looking to beat that record haul, it seems more greedy than usual to roll out a tacky ad campaign like this."

Not like the people who would buy this just for COD XP won't be playing at 12:00:01 am on the release day or before anyway.

That said I may switch to Code Red for a week or two when it comes out .

dusted off MW2 (never got Black Ops) for about an hour yesterday afternoon to try and get ready for MW3. I havent played since around January of last year, got my shit pushed in the first few rounds of TDM, but finally started to even out my K/D ratio. I forgot how much fun this game is, cant wait for MW3

I only got through about half of the campaign on MW2 back when I first bought the game, is everyone planning on playing the campaign in MW3 or are you just going straight to multiplayer?

the campaigns are always so short, i usually play through it on regular difficulty and beat it in the first couple days, then gradually will beat it on Veteran intertwined with lots of multiplayer

plus I like playing through the campaign once just to get reacquainted with controls, get a slight feel for the maps, and any new weapons

AAHHHHHH!!!!!

Looks like Amazon is sold out of preorders for Hardened Edition & Gamestop isn't doing in-store preorders either.

I can still preorder from Gamestop, but delivery will be 1-2 days after 11/8.

TWW, Tell me where to get this on release day (delivered or in store)

i usually agree with you. but for this one ($100) it actually is a better deal than paying for a year's worth of COD Elite ($?) and the 3 map packs planned for release ($60) and the game ($60) all separately.

I just preordered with Best Buy, used some reward zone coupons to cancel out express shipping so i should have it on release day barring any fuck ups.

I am debating relying on Best Buy to ship it to me on release day or just swinging by Walmart/ToysRUs/Target/BestBuy the day of release and snagging one when the store opens.

I think I may hold out and count on stores having them in stock

im not convinced Elite is anything really, but one of the reasons I didn't really keep up with MW2 was I never bought the map packs. at least now i've paid for them up front.

i take it back. canceled my HE pre-order and went with the standard version from Amazon. free release date delivery, $20 credit.

$40 instead of $115 is much better to me.

He probably means that he had an existing credit that applied to that purchase.

Might need to get a few MW2 mounts in before the drop date, been a while since I played!

Truth be told, I'm kinda nervous about the lack of information that's been leaked on this game. There was all kinds of hype and pre-release vids for BLOPS 'cause they were so proud of it. I'm hoping this game isn't a giant $60 turd.

^correct, $20 credit from prior purchases.

I can't imagine a $60 turd. The only thing I worry about with all of these different streak rewards is matches that are so riddled with non-player controlled weaponry that the actual game of shooting other people is no longer the central focus

^that's what bothers me about the support killstreaks

in principle I like supporting team gameplay and objectives but if these guys can just keep building up points regardless of dying until they grab things like air support then the map might just end up flooded with that stuff.

We always make a habit of seeking out and putting down anyone who is getting close to anything good so its possible to mitigate that in MW2. In MW3 basically each team or even player will end up having to carry a launcher as their secondary almost all the time.
