strange, i don't get directed there with either my personal or work account. what kind of 365 account do you have?
10/29/2014 11:42:37 AM
not sure, one of the most basic ones that doesn't come with Office365. It's like $6.99 or $7.99 a month.
10/29/2014 11:45:26 AM
will skydrive.live.com redirect you to the same page?
10/29/2014 11:51:40 AM
skydrive.live.com redirects to onedrive.live.com before I even get the chance to loginNot a huge deal for me, I have Dropbox and multiple GMail accounts with Google Drive. I might look into it further in the future though.
10/29/2014 11:57:22 AM
I have signed up for the $9.99 Office 365 Home for right now, but apparently if you do the free trial for the first month, you do not get the 1TB/Unlimited OneDrive. Boo. I really would like to start getting my 1.7 TB photo library onto a 4th backup point.

^Any idea on how long to rollout for unlimited? Also I went on and got a subscription to Office 365 Home, but do you think it will be a pain in the ass to switch to a free account when that gets rolled out to university staff in a few months?
11/1/2014 11:05:32 AM
^There isn't really a "free" account. And I'm not sure how the University plans work, whether they will act like personal account or you will be rolled into a university organizational (business) account. If it's the latter, chances are you won't be getting unlimited OneDrive.I just saw the unlimited bit today and checked my OneDrive storage cap.... apparently I now have 10.6TB of storage LOL. So I guess it's already rolling out (I didn't even opt in).
11/1/2014 9:12:26 PM
^^^thanks

^^Actually yes, it sort of is.http://slickdeals.net/f/7217080-office-365-for-students-and-teachers-free-select-edu-emailsIf you are an employee of a university that has Office 365, then you can use Office 365 at home for free.As for unlimited, here is the info:https://blog.onedrive.com/office-365-onedrive-unlimited-storage/So according to Chris Jones, University accounts will get unlimited data. And if I am a university employee at a participating university, I can use my .edu account for Office 365 Home at no cost and get the unlimited Onedrive storage.

Microsoft has been doing awesome things lately.
2/3/2015 11:01:54 AM
I don't know when exactly it happened, but Windows 8 runs pretty well now on the atom powered tablets our service guys use. I'm excited for Windows 10 but hope that it doesn't slow down low-power devices.
2/3/2015 11:07:57 AM
windows 10 is going to run on the raspberry pi 2, so I wouldn't be too worried that it wouldn't run fine on a tablet

maybe i'm in the minority here, but i only use IE when i have to...while everything since 10 has been less shitty, i really can't think of anything that IE does better than chrome or firefox (except memory management, of course, but with 16GB of memory, i've never noticed)i'm looking forward to trident's long-awaited death and looking forward to the spartan fork: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8932/internet-explorer-project-spartan-shows-large-performance-gains

^ The last stupid big purchase during Ballmer's twilight years is now out. Ballmer threw away 12 billion dollars between Nokia and aQuantive. I haven't had a Windows Phone since the Lumia Icon (went back to an iPhone 6+ which I love). But considering Microsoft makes the best email client for iOS, and every single MS App I use has great iOS and Android support (Office, OneDrive, Lync, Skype OneNote) yeah I'm still pretty damn happy with the direction of the company. And apparently Wall Street is too, being that the writedown has had zero impact on the stockprice or outlook.

10/6/2015 12:13:11 PM
the microsoft band still looks dumb, and i'm not convinced hololens will ever be used for gaming even though they keep showing it (i think it will be more useful for engineering/design/academia), the productivity of the new Windows 10 phones is awesome but I can't justify switching to that ecosystem until app developers show interest in universal appsbut the Surface 4 and Surface Book are awesome. [Edited on October 6, 2015 at 12:24 PM. Reason : Now I wish that I needed a new computer, I want that damn Surface Book badly]
10/6/2015 12:23:06 PM
http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/06/microsofts-surface-book-is-its-first-and-ultimate-laptop/Yeah I really want one. Best parts of a Surface with a discrete video card and more in a laptop form factor. If they can truly pull off the 12 hours of battery life then that would be awesome.
10/6/2015 5:16:54 PM
so it fits in the surface dock ... which I assume means it loses the benefits of the discrete vid card.... that seems like it'd suck a bit?
10/7/2015 11:08:02 AM
Yes - although the Surface dock isn't anything special. You can plug a USB 3.0 dock into the Surface Book with one usb cable and get dual display, audio, network, more usbs, etc and keep the keyboard dock (and the GPU). Microsoft should release a USB 3.0 dock like Dell or various other 3rd party vendors have.
10/7/2015 11:32:40 AM
^^ I don't understand this comment. the Surface Book is a laptop with a removable screen that works by itself without the GPU. If you want GPU graphics in tablet form you can still do that by turning over the screen and closing the laptop, you'll just have the extra weight of the rest of the body vs. using it with screen alone
10/7/2015 11:37:30 AM
I think the comment said that if the screen fits in the surface dock then someone might want to use it on the go as a tablet then toss it in the dock for a desktop replacement. Doing this however would limit the functionality of the Surface Book as it wouldn't have the GPU in the keyboard. My solution was just to use a standard USB 3.0 dock as the only benefit to the Surface Dock is it acts as a stand as well. AS a dock it's actually quite limited as it only has one display out. If you want to run dual monitors out of a device you'd have to run one displayport out on the dock and one displayport out from the laptop (if the port is even accessible in the dock). Most non-Microsoft USB 3.0 docks have dual display out.--Looks like the displayport on the Surface Pro 3 is at least accessible when it's docked so you can run two monitors if you want:
10/7/2015 11:53:30 AM
The dock has 2 mini-display ports
10/7/2015 12:00:59 PM
I spoke too soon Microsoft did release a Surface Dock with two display ports: http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/accessories/surface-dock^Yeah I realized that after I made my comment. I didn't see the new Surface Dock. I thought the comment was about the old Surface Dock not the new one. --Also on that note why would it lose the benefit of the GPU when it's plugged into the new Surface Dock? Why not just plug it in with the keyboard attached to it? [Edited on October 7, 2015 at 12:10 PM. Reason : s]
