^ The reason is that apparently Haynes is a much better pass blocker. I just saw something on PP (I think) where Greene even said that he never really did any blocking in HS.
11/4/2010 9:32:42 PM
greene is responsible for getting RW/black jesus trucked by the defense on several occasions[Edited on November 4, 2010 at 9:39 PM. Reason : we dont want an injured black jesus]
11/4/2010 9:38:39 PM
then put Haynes in on pass plays. put Greene in to run. neither of these have to happen 100% of the time. however, my point remains that Haynes gets too many carries. do you have a reason for that?
11/4/2010 9:42:19 PM
I am going to the game but is anyone else a little cautious besides myself? I am going in thinking we will lose close.
11/4/2010 9:42:53 PM
a majority of us are at least nervous about it i would think. clemson has a way of killing us off that seems hard to get around. here's hopin.

i'm proposing that *gasp* the better running back be the starting running back. it's that simple. i didn't say he should be the only one on the field, and i clearly stated that they should be in simply for the sake of the game situation. greene should be the #1 back, and should get a higher majority of the carries.
11/4/2010 10:34:22 PM
awesome big guy, i see the point you are trying to make.
11/4/2010 10:43:20 PM
If they're both productive, and get close to the same amount of carries, what does it matter if one is listed as the starter and one isn't. It's just a title. It's like in hockey where the veteran gets the C on his jersey, but the younger star player gets the A on his. Both are essential for their team's success, but play different roles. The older player just gets the benefit of the doubt for being named captain due to the time he's put in, while the younger players gets the assistant captain title.
11/4/2010 11:13:06 PM
well, except for the fact that haynes is a redshirt freshman and has been practicing as an RB for less time than greene with usand the "pass protection" BS is the same garbage the panthers used for years to keep playing deshaun foster over deangelo. it was trash then and its trash now. im not saying haynes is as relatively shit to his competition as foster was, but it is painfully obvious that he is inferior to greene

Haynes was RB on the scout team last year right?
11/4/2010 11:34:18 PM
Mustafa needs to get as many carries as he can handle. Haynes obviously has some value or else he wouldn't be out there but Greene is clearly the star.[Edited on November 4, 2010 at 11:38 PM. Reason : Maybe Haynes can be the 3rd down back since it sounds like he's the better blocker.]
11/4/2010 11:37:07 PM
Depending on how healthy he is, it'd be nice to see Washington get some carries too. You can only have so many guy carry the ball though; especially when you have a weapon like Russell.
11/4/2010 11:41:07 PM
after watching Washington get trucksticked by a blitzing linebacker against Florida State, I'm not sure we need him in the backfield ever.
11/5/2010 12:08:25 AM
Just put glue on Haynes gloves prior to the Clemson game, problem solved!
11/5/2010 12:17:40 AM
You guys ever think that maybe Greene has been so good because he is fresh and we are using him right as a true freshman? Haynes is fine....like its been pointed out he has only fumbled one time more than Mustafa. We don't want Greene to turn into another T.A. out there.

If Mustafa sucks so much at blocking why don't we just have him run a route everytime he's in on passing plays? He has been pretty dynamic catching the ball out of the backfield anyway.
11/5/2010 6:32:24 AM
Needed some shutting of the bed on page 8
11/5/2010 6:50:37 AM
Since Washington has come back he has played more on passing downs than Haynes or Greene. He has pretty good hands and looks like the best receiver of all of them (all though Greene is better after the catch). When we lose a chunk of our receiving corps, I wonder if he stays at 3rd down back or plays more wideout.
11/5/2010 6:53:12 AM
^we have had several underclassmen make some key catches this year, I think we will be fine at the WR position for the next several years.

If he got run over, then he did pick up the blitz, didn't he? Running backs are gonna get run over sometimes tryna block a LB they're giving up 30 or 40 pounds on, esp. when the LB has a running start. The important thing is to stay in front of the guy and if you get knocked over, slow him down.On Ponder's first fumble (9 minutes to go in the 3rd), Jermaine Thomas whiffed on Cole. Cole and Mageo hit Ponder and caused the fumble. That's failing to pick up the blitz.
11/5/2010 10:20:51 AM
^ I understand what you're saying, but on the play in question, Washington was bulldozed so effectively and completely, it was just as if he completely whiffed on the block.
11/5/2010 10:25:18 AM
Yeah, it resulted in a sack on 3rd down.
11/5/2010 10:34:50 AM
in all fairness to Washington, there were so many guys coming that the guy he decided to pickup had already gotten to the line and Washington never got a chance to set his feet. But he was certainly bulldozed, pile-drived, de-cleated, whatever u wanna call it and the guy still was in on the sack on RW.
11/5/2010 10:35:58 AM
That sack probably wasn't preventable. There were several missed assignments and more pass rushers than blockers.I like the RB situation we have. But I would like to see someone get 100+ yards in a game this year. With the renewed focus on the run, I think its possible. Especially against Wake.[Edited on November 5, 2010 at 10:52 AM. Reason : they're all players]

In the ACC it appears, after Virginia Tech's win last night, that they are running away with the Coastal Division. Although they still have 3 conference games left, two of which are AT UNC and AT Miami. And they both only have 2 conference losses. So the Coastal is still open.So this weekend in the ACC, outside of our game, I'll be pulling for:Miami over Maryland - to help distance ourselves at the top of the division. With 3 away games left on our schedule, I think a loss is inevitable. Since we're still tied with Maryland in the division, any loss for the Terps helps us at this point.FSU over UNC - even though a FSU loss helps us, the UNC-CHeating assholes have no business winning ANY games for the rest of the season. Not to mention a UNC win makes them bowl-eligible. I'd rather FSU suffer an ACC loss against someone else.BC/Wake and Duke/UVA - who cares? Both games have no bearing on hardly anything
11/5/2010 11:07:04 AM
unc has never beaten fsu at fsu according to my knowledge...i think unc has a very small chance of winning.
11/5/2010 11:13:56 AM

^ I thought the same thing. But I see what he is getting at, that VT is running away with it, but two of the games they have remaining are tough games. I think VT wins out though, goes to ACC Champ game with no conference losses.
11/5/2010 11:25:52 AM
VT is 5-0. They just eliminated GT from the race last night. It appears that they are heading to Charlotte; however, Miami and UNC, both with only 2 ACC losses, both get a crack at VT at home. Two-loss teams have made it to the ACCCG before, so it's not out of the question.
