Nice! Let us know what you think. I've contemplated a Sinn for a while now.

Spotted a "slightly worn, but nowhere near worn out" Victorinox ladies watch in a box of cheap watches at the thrift store. For $5 how could I not? It is sized for little kids and anorexics though. I suspect my 4 year old goddaughter will be wearing it next month. After a quick search I think it's one of these, but will do a little more research when I get a chance.http://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-Womens-241368/dp/B002IOTGDS[Edited on February 8, 2012 at 6:40 PM. Daaaaaaamn. Now you can swim in the deep end.
2/23/2012 12:44:01 AM
meh... if i was buying a diving watch, i personally wouldn't get one that was waterproof to at least 8 km (they do exist)
2/23/2012 8:30:29 AM
could someone suggest a nice sports watch for me?budget: $100-$200

What are people's opinions on leather bands vs. steel bands? One better for another occasion than another or more just personal preference? I'm looking at getting a nicer watch here in the future and can't decide which style band I should get. Currently leaning towards leather though.
2/23/2012 10:42:35 AM
have one of each (steel, leather, sports) atleast.
2/23/2012 10:56:18 AM
^^ALWAYS get the bracelet over leather strap. The reason is bracelet is much more expensive if you get them separately. You could always buy after-market strap for much cheaper.
2/24/2012 11:17:14 PM
GF bought me this! love her!!!
2/25/2012 7:07:24 PM
^ i have been eyeing that in amazon, for 2 reasons:1) it is gorgeous2) it is purported to be the most accurate quartz watch, and also the second hand moves continuously, like that of an automatic. is this true (about the accuracy)?

seiko 5 with green dial and green fabric strap for $72 on amazonhttp://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LTAY1U/ref=pe_56980_22888270_pe_vfe_dt2i got mine for $93 just a month ago.anyway, for those of you who have it, how much power does it hold?mine runs for 40 hours. some reviews on amazon said it lasted only 8 to 12 hours... i guess those people got a bad one. damn, tough luck. i would be pissed to hell if mine only lasted that much.

the seiko 5 is a great watch for the price. I have one for about 2 years now and it works great. Start up every time.

40 winds is thpically a full charge but dont worry most modern mechanical watches can not be over- wound.

Panerai 177
3/17/2012 10:45:39 AM
I found a Citizen Eco-Drive on the sidewalk and use that as my "formal watch". My everyday watch is a women's Timex Ironman. It's stayed alive in open water, showers, and regularly in the pool, and has survived so far,so I'm good. If I was in a profession that demanded nice watches, I might think differently.

4/3/2012 7:19:58 AM
I know what we are talking about. A mechanical watch can also be wound by the crown. You can not over wind a mechanical watch either wearing it or manually winding it.
4/3/2012 11:07:20 AM
Forgot, Mr. Joshua that 177 looked sweet. Now im thinking I like the titanium look on Panerai's.QTPie I am excited for the new NH location. Neil sent me a letter.[Edited on April 3, 2012 at 11:16 AM. Reason : Gh]

^ You telling me I can wind my self-winding automatics manually? I did not know that. Thanks for the info. I will try once I get home. I just got my first ever automatics (2 at the same time) 3 months ago, so I am still learning.
4/4/2012 5:46:48 AM
OEPII1 That is correct. Also, the placement of the watch will change the time the piece keeps. Meaning...laying it on its case back, on the crystal or on it's side (crown down or up). Try it and you should see some difference. What do you have? I am sure it is in this Thread...
4/4/2012 12:27:26 PM
^ 1) what kind of differences would i notice based on placement? are they immediate differences, or differences in power reserve?2) i tried manually winding my 2 automatics, but it didn't work.3) go to top of page, and look at 3rd and 4th pics from top. those are my watches. (seiko and orient)4) do you know anything about the brand Akribos XXIV? they make stunning looking pieces... look on amazon for a sampling or look here: http://akribosxxiv.com . many (most?) are skeleton mechanicals/automatics, and i have a weakness for skeleton watches. but quality is highly variable, according to reviews (i guess they use chinese movements?). they don't even say where the company is from, but looking at the original website, it seems it is an american brand. really tempted to buy a couple, but don't know if i will end up with a lemon which will stop working after a few days/weeks. they typically cost $500 to $1,000 but are on amazon for $50 to $200 (deep discounts, as on Invictas). totally in love with this unique one: http://www.amazon.com/Akribos-XXIV-AKR478SS-Mechanical-Skeleton/dp/B005MK7ASS
4/5/2012 7:27:18 PM
^turn the crown when pushed in completely. These don't look like they have screw down crowns, especially the skeleton one.Gravity will have a influence on your time piece. Crown up, crown down, dial up, and dial down. You would see the time either slow or speed up. These movements aren't COSC certified (-4/+6 sec a day). The reserve should not be altered with placement. The only thing to change that would be if it is fully wound or not. A $10 timed will keep better time than a mechanical one.I do not know about that brand. If you like it that is all that matters. Not brand or cost etc.

I don't like gold plated. Makes me think old people.

hey you know that thing you just bought and are really excited about? i think it sucks. didn't think it was fair for you to not know.
4/11/2012 3:46:00 PM
I personally love the black/gold/silver look.

I want a Citizen Eco Drive. I really like the new ones with Eco-Drive, perpetual calendar, atomic radio, and sapphire crystal. I already have a gun metal watch so I'm thinking one of these two:http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-AT4010-50E-Perpetual-Chrono-Watch/dp/B005BS2ENC'http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-AT4008-51E-Perpetual-Chrono-Watch/dp/B005BSEOXK/ref=pd_sbs_watch_1Both are essentially the same watch except the top one is the titanium version (found it cheaper else ware btw). Is titanium really worth it? I could care less about the weight of stainless steal.
4/15/2012 4:46:20 PM
Don't steal wares.
4/15/2012 5:27:27 PM
woops steel.
4/15/2012 5:31:28 PM
and elsewhere, not else ware anyway, did you read the reviews? some flaws mentioned by some of the reviewers.also, it is available in like 10 other colors/materials.
4/15/2012 5:42:35 PM
Yeah I read all the reviews on Amazon. Quality sounds like it's in line with most Citizen watches. I'm not a huge fan of the gold, already have a gunmetal/darker watch, and want a metal band. That leaves me with the two I mentioned (titanium or stainless steel). Or this one:http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-AT4025-01E-Perpetual-Limited-Edition/dp/B005BSXU8U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_topThe regular stainless steel one I can find online for close to $330 (Newegg/Jacob) so I'm leaning towards that one. I also like a heavier watch. I do really like the darker one and I found it online for $324:http://www.jacobtime.com/osc/product_info.php?products_id=18659But my Victorinox is gunmetal...[Edited on April 15, 2012 at 5:57 PM. ^ I just got that watch (the big picture) this weekend as a wedding present from my now wife. Absolutely love it looks great.
4/16/2012 9:16:54 AM
So did datman. He likes it. Might try to find it in a store this week and check out the different versions. Still can't decide between that one and the stainless steel.
4/16/2012 9:28:31 AM
that line of watch you posted looks nice, but it's pretty cheap in person. plastic bezel if you want an eco drive, go for the signature series.
4/16/2012 1:08:27 PM
I went and played with one today. Didn't seem cheap at all. Bezel's weren't plastic as far as I can remember. Very nice watch. Still going check out the stainless steel version and see which one I like better. Signature collection looks alright but it doesn't look like they have any with radio/atomic feature although I haven't looked extensively.[Edited on April 16, 2012 at 2:56 PM. Reason : also I'm not trying to spend more than $500]

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f305/video-review-citizen-eco-drive-world-perpetual-t-638460.html$220 at Cosco.http://slickdeals.net/f/4248490-Citizen-Men-s-Eco-Drive-World-Perpetual-A-T-Watch-for-220-tax-at-Costco-YMMVBasically the same as the ones we've been discussing but without Chronograph.
4/25/2012 2:42:26 PM
do you all actually go to a store to get the battery changed?
4/25/2012 2:43:51 PM
no battery on dat eco-drive son!
4/25/2012 5:28:42 PM
Ok I might have to go pick one of those up. Not a bad deal for $220 if you want an Eco-Drive plus Atomic and Perpetual calendar. Plus Sapphire Crystal on a $220 watch is a deal.
