Let me know when this thing you want me to pay for doesn't crash...or when the server lets me play at all.[Edited on September 28, 2010 at 7:06 PM. Reason : Also, let me know when they fix the graphics.]

saturnine... please post when ram upgrade is done
9/28/2010 7:16:29 PM
^ to explain that to everyone elseServer just went down like 10 minutes for hardware upgrades. SMC ask for a whitelist with your character and you can get on. Server otherwise has been relativly stable and should be better after this upgrade.
9/28/2010 7:19:11 PM
Server is back online. Should have plenty of RAM overhead now. Still spitting out funny errors, but I think it's related to multi-core cpus and time sync. Shouldn't be an issue.Let me know if lag persists. If it does I'll need to call Chuck Norris in.
9/28/2010 7:28:32 PM
Don't let smc in. He already griefed the map back when I was hosting.
9/28/2010 7:32:05 PM
I don't get it... what's the appeal of this game?is it like virtual legos or what?
9/28/2010 7:34:17 PM
^The single player mode is more like a survival RPG.You start with nothing, have to tear apart some trees with your hands to build yourself a workbench and tools, and try to construct or find a shelter before monsters start spawning at night. It just goes from there on its own. Only once your have mastered your own territory do you start to do big construction projects or explore the world. For a more in-depth look from the perspective of someone playing for the first time, read these:http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/tag/mine-the-gap/The multiplayer is less survival-ish, because damage (among other things) doesn't work yet in multiplayer.[Edited on September 28, 2010 at 7:49 PM. Reason : damn it is minecraft.net down again?]
9/28/2010 7:39:03 PM
Hahaha I love you guys so much. By the way, I'm already on the whitelist, but thanks for offering.
9/28/2010 7:57:29 PM
...offering what?
9/28/2010 8:34:00 PM
I seem to get a lot of crashes playing on the TWW multiplayer server.
9/29/2010 12:24:46 AM
...did the TWW server just go down?Or is this just another round of maintenance?
9/29/2010 12:39:32 AM
Yeah it's down again. Par for the course. I left you guys a present underground though.
9/29/2010 1:02:12 AM
Another question:
9/29/2010 7:40:09 AM
it's not much of an issue when you have a castle. i generally build an outer wall and then light it up with torches so i can build through the night.
9/29/2010 8:11:30 AM
They should ramp that shit up. Have a black death that sweeps through every now and again.
9/29/2010 9:50:45 AM
ok, I still need build/destory access: yfeah
9/29/2010 11:34:53 AM
9/29/2010 12:05:37 PM
I'm still cautious at night. Monsters can really come from any angle and can spawn anyway it's dark, so I've gotten sneak-attacked before. And Notch (creator) has already said that it's going to get ramped up. Some of the new features will be that monsters come in waves that increase over time. It'll be like a Zombie Survival gamemode, and they just siege the hell out of you every night until you break. Stuff like that. It's planned and it's possible, so I"m pretty confident we'll see the option for the 'OH GOD THEY TOOK JIM' gameplay.
9/29/2010 12:10:25 PM
You also can run unto monsters in underground caves and caverns while you are exploring/mining
9/29/2010 1:27:59 PM
Russolbrien Field/Stadium underway...
9/29/2010 2:22:42 PM
I was wondering what you were doing there.
9/29/2010 2:27:26 PM
^^ Nice dude. Need some red blocks somehow and we can do the block S. Ill march on it ^ SecondedSo we building the rest of the stadium now? Thad be a project to do. Hows the server been for you all today? Its been lagging for me a bit today on multiple machines ive been logging on with.
9/29/2010 2:29:25 PM
Yeah when I get to building/designing the stadium I'd definitely welcome help...prolly won't start on it today though...planning on doing some finishing touches on the field/goalposts etc, get some brick from a mod to do the block S, and then get the stadium built later this week/weekend.
9/29/2010 2:35:37 PM
Laggy as fuck. Seems to get worse the longer I'm logged in. I don't know if someone is placing stairs or tracks or something but it gets to be unplayable and then I have to relog and it happens all over again.
9/29/2010 2:44:41 PM
^ part of the longer you are on is your machine and all the memory leaks.Watch your memory on the javaw or java program in task manager sometime. I had a gig running just for this last night after like and hr and it keeps going up. For this being run in java normally which handles memory and garbage collection quite well this is bad.
9/29/2010 2:48:21 PM
I have 8GB 1666 memory so I really hope it's not just memory leaks.
9/29/2010 3:03:44 PM
So.. I can only play for like 3 mins then the lag freezes me.Is it really because I setup a bunch of switches??
9/29/2010 3:12:15 PM
I've been trying to figure out the lag myself. The problem is I only see two places it could be coming from; the connection, or the memory.I usually check the server when it gets laggy/populated to see if i can nail it down, but there's nothing that should be causing it. There's no way we're capping out a 100Mb connection, and there is a huge amount of memory overhead.I'm going to look into some options for reducing or eliminating it; starting with two daily restarts. I will set these to happen at non-peak times, and make sure to have the server give ample warning. I'm probably going to have it back-up the map during this time-frame as well. Downtime should be no more than 2 minutes for each restart. On top of this I might end up just restarting the whole box once every couple of days.I've also seen some suggestions regarding the way the server threading is set up. It might be better off limiting the server to one or two processor cores.I can also revert back to Java 1.6 and see if that helps at all. In any case, I'm working on it.
9/29/2010 3:17:23 PM
I haven't tried multiplayer yet but may join the TWW server in a few minutes.
9/29/2010 3:52:30 PM
nevermind. i need to be placed on a whitelist, whatever that is.
9/29/2010 3:53:42 PM
^ Give me your name to put on the whitelist/group.Server is up again. Downgraded the java, seems to be using less resources/running quicker. Give it a try, and let me know how the lag is.
9/29/2010 3:54:53 PM
yo thanks for handling this stuff, satit's been fun for sure
9/29/2010 4:07:09 PM
Great idea on making the stadium, but the field looks small. How about A 1:1 scale? Either soon or a future projectMaybe it is scale and I just need a reference guess the yardline thickness is throwing me off [Edited on September 29, 2010 at 4:11 PM. Reason : .]
9/29/2010 4:07:26 PM
It's in meters not yards
9/29/2010 4:18:19 PM
9/29/2010 4:20:05 PM
^ done, join the server and someone can give you build access.
9/29/2010 4:47:47 PM
Why on earth would anyone try to develop a game on platform as greedy and shitty as java?[Edited on September 29, 2010 at 4:59 PM. Reason : Doom ran better than this on cpus 150 times less powerful 20 years ago. Pathetic.]
9/29/2010 4:50:19 PM
^^^^^ It is about half scale, which for the speed the guys move at felt about right to me (~8 seconds to go 40 "yards" on the field). Plus the magnitude of work of a full scale stadium is nuts - you'd have to start by leveling at least 25,000 or so square blocks.[Edited on September 29, 2010 at 5:02 PM. Reason : .]
9/29/2010 4:58:50 PM
^^ First logical thing smc has said in ITT.
9/29/2010 5:08:57 PM
First the belltower, now the football fieldI'm going to have to start acting quicker on my ideas
9/29/2010 5:58:24 PM
smc, stop trolling or you're out.
9/29/2010 6:03:27 PM
9/29/2010 6:11:39 PM
^i posted how he did that earlier. It was fake. He imported the blueprints.
9/29/2010 6:26:33 PM
wheres the belltower at? I havnt seen it.
9/29/2010 6:32:29 PM
straight ahead past the visitor center. could be bigger.
9/29/2010 6:37:15 PM
thinking about dicking around on this, do i need a mouse or will a laptop touchpad suffice?ps. aside from the monsters, what's the difference in this and just building something in solidworks or autocad? [Edited on September 29, 2010 at 6:42 PM. Reason : .]
9/29/2010 6:41:09 PM
I've used the trackpad on mine a little bit. It's not horrible, but obviously a mouse is preferred..
