id rather get some CBS games than watch Mike Hogewood waddle and sweat while Brooks and Dunn provide the telecast's intro music

Adding A&M means that SEC games would be inserted into the Houston area market more with regional coverage. That's the driving force. More tvs set to watch SEC games and less to Big 12 games as ESPN sets which households have access to which games. I just don't know that VT would effect the DC regional allocation that much. I'm assuming the DC region is set to ACC via Maryland and UVA not so much VT. How much more regional share did the ACC pull from the Big East when VT joined the ACC in the DC market?
8/13/2011 1:15:09 PM
I would say that VT has as strong if not stronger following in the DC market than any other school, including Maryland. Their support is rabid.
8/13/2011 1:18:37 PM
^^^you have to be good to be on CBS.]
8/13/2011 1:18:42 PM
I guess my point is that, if the choice is between adding a school that's in a large TV market or adding a school that has passionate fans and good teams, you're better off taking the latter regardless of where they're located. We added two schools that while in large TV markets, don't have passionate fans or consistent teams, and I think the conference has suffered. That being said, VT has great fans and good teams, and would be a great fit for the SEC. Just saying that it's because of those traits, not necessarily because of proximity to DC...
8/13/2011 1:21:37 PM
nevertheless
8/13/2011 1:22:16 PM
8/13/2011 1:26:32 PM
Clemson fits in perfectly.
8/13/2011 1:27:43 PM
How? So they can get the rest of South Carolina's ginormous market?
8/13/2011 1:37:23 PM
I have a feeling that the SEC and Texas A&M are dead serious about this move, but I just remember how many rumors there were about super conferences a year or so ago, and the only move that happened was Nebraska to the Big Tenif the SEC does expand, I see it going to 14 teams, not 16]
8/13/2011 1:38:38 PM
Clemson can't win more than 7 games a year in the ACC, despite being preseason darlings every single timeThey're a football fanbase, though, and by far the worst basketball school in the conferenceThey wouldn't win a lot in the SEC, but it's certainly more their style[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 1:40 PM. Reason : ^ Pac 12, bro]
8/13/2011 1:39:22 PM
fuck the west coast
8/13/2011 1:40:20 PM
It'll be interesting to see who the SEC actually takes. I only wish NC State was being seriously considered.
8/13/2011 1:41:20 PM
State moving to the SEC would mean 2 wins a year for the next 10+ seasonsI don't see why anyone would be in favor of thatMaybe we'd end up in the top of half of the basketball standings, but that's not much of an accomplishment
8/13/2011 1:42:36 PM
Not necessarily. I'd be willing to take our lumps in the SEC is that means that we have to fully commit to athletics, especially football. More money and exposure would put this state on lockdown for football talent. And NC produces a good amount of talent.
8/13/2011 1:45:37 PM
^^ I disagree. I think it would help them eventually. NC has a LOT of talent and State would get more of it than they do now probably from just being in the SEC. I see them being at least on par with Ole Miss, South Carolina (typical South Carolina, not the SC of the last 2 years). They would be better than Vandy and Kentucky^ hahaha, they are pretty committed [Edited on August 13, 2011 at 1:48 PM. Reason : D]
8/13/2011 1:46:53 PM
In what way is the school not currently fully committed to athletics?[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 1:48 PM. Reason : We're a basketball school!!]
8/13/2011 1:47:02 PM
there's a faux live wolf on the sidelines, not a real live wolf
8/13/2011 1:48:06 PM
^academic requirements
8/13/2011 1:50:55 PM
road trips would be unfathomably better
8/13/2011 1:51:28 PM
Well I happen to think NC State is making more of a commitment now, but when Fowler was at the wheel mediocrity was ok. We'll see how Yow handles things. But if you look at the financial breakdown of the money that SEC schools spend and make in comparison with ACC schools, it's not even close. That includes things like indoor practice facilities, coach's and assistant coach's salaries, etc. I think we are on par with Mississippi State and Kentucky, but that's about it. The other SEC schools blow us away.
8/13/2011 1:53:32 PM
if state joined the SEC, then that opens up random winnable out-of-conference games against the ACC
8/13/2011 1:55:04 PM
http://www2.indystar.com/NCAA_financial_reports/Auburn: $40m in, $24m outNCSU: $16m in, $9m outThem ratios are pretty equal
8/13/2011 1:57:38 PM
8/13/2011 2:00:48 PM
The only way I would support a move to the SEC would be if we were in the same division as Ole Miss. Just so I could go to the grove every other year.
8/13/2011 2:01:03 PM
packboozie ftw
8/13/2011 2:02:08 PM
Second place in the ACC gets you a #1 seed, second place in the SEC gets you a #4 seedPriorities, people[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:05 PM. Reason : Like we would ever finish 5th in the SEC]
8/13/2011 2:03:04 PM
now that im thinking about the road trips makes me want to leave even moreeven though i more than likely wont be anywhere near the southeast when i get a job lol
8/13/2011 2:05:39 PM
Yeah and we haven't even made the NCAA tournament in 5 years and some people were okay with that and wanted to keep Sidney Lowe. What does that tell you about priorities?
8/13/2011 2:06:12 PM
^^^^ truth. even though i would join the SEC if offered.^ you motherfucker, bringing that up in this thread.[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:07 PM. Reason : .]
8/13/2011 2:06:48 PM
8/13/2011 2:07:44 PM
so much easier to make the tournament in the SEC though.
8/13/2011 2:07:58 PM
When do expect NC State to earn a #2 spot in the ACC basketball? State should start reprioritizing dog.
8/13/2011 2:08:10 PM
ya'll postin in a Lowe thread now
8/13/2011 2:08:39 PM
Herb Sendek would want to stay in the ACC
8/13/2011 2:09:12 PM
The difference in SEC football and ACC football is much greater than SEC basketball and ACC basketball. Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee are regulars in the NCAA and Florida has recently won back to back titles. No ACC football team has even sniffed a title in the last 5 years.Plus I would much rather lose to LSU, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, instead of losing to fucking Boston College. Come on.
8/13/2011 2:09:19 PM
also the good football players that can't get in at alabama might come here to still play against their foes and in the same league they are used to.
8/13/2011 2:10:56 PM
8/13/2011 2:11:29 PM
get more Gameday appearances in Raleigh I'd think
8/13/2011 2:11:39 PM
Clemson went through a 20 year stretch with like one ACCT win[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:12 PM. Reason : lol @ UT being an NCAAT regular]
8/13/2011 2:12:04 PM
Clemson should leave, then get real good at bball, then go to chapel hill and get a win there and never go back
8/13/2011 2:13:10 PM
if we moved to the SEC, I would fear some serious competition from Ole Miss in bass fishing
8/13/2011 2:15:13 PM
If you want NCSU to join the SEC b/c of better gameday parties (on the road) and to be in a weaker basketball conference, then go ahead & pull for us to move to the SECIf you don't want 6-6 to be considered a good season in football for State, then you should pull against us moving to the SEC. Also, I'd bank on us getting put on probation within the first 5 years of joining the SEC
8/13/2011 2:16:32 PM
8/13/2011 2:17:50 PM
8/13/2011 2:19:51 PM
they sure were a powerhouse before Pearland now that he's gone, they'll be sure to remain a powerhouse
8/13/2011 2:20:32 PM
8/13/2011 2:21:13 PM
You guys against it need look no farther than South Carolina. Compare them pre-SEC and now and write back. Probably not going to happen anyway, but I don't see how you could be against it.
8/13/2011 2:24:10 PM
guess we will see... they werent going this year even with Pearl, lost way too much. But we will see about the future.
8/13/2011 2:24:49 PM
shit, compare SC in 2008 and 2011night and daythat doesnt mean they didn't suck from 1990 to 2005]
