Well, it's not a spotlight, it's an illuminated drum head. He sounds like fucking Val Kilmer doing a Jim Morrison impression.

LOL. Skip to the 2:00 mark.

Ed Schrader is punk as hell. This is it; wild-eyed Ed with Devlin Rice on bass screaming through most of a set of music in under 10 minutes. No jokes (almost), no banter, just the raucous poetry of Ed Schrader's Music Beat.

Got a question for those who went -

How does a man become a dog?

Furthermore, how does a dog get around?

Pretty much. I saw them at King's and was astonished at how bad it was, yet people were still at least pretending to dig it. They might be rad dudes, but the dude has no idea how to play drums (or keep a remotely consistent tempo). Sloppiness aside, the music is just not good.

The good thing is that his set is 2 cigs and a beer.

I'm not sure of the actual length but it sure felt like it went a good 30-40 minutes.

And they make whoever they open for sound MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

Not that Future Islands needs that at all, but coming on after ESMB and not killing it is probably pretty hard to do with the bar set so low.

Yeah, his set actually did serve as a great buffer while I took care of some business outside.

How was Lonnie Walker?

Don't feel bad missing Ed Schrader's Music Bea(s)t--seen'em before and wasn't impressed.

Stupidly mad I missed the concert--but oh well. Fucking illnesses.

The girl who won Work of Art on BRAVO created the album artwork for In Evening Air. She's originally from Durham.

KYMIA NAWABI Y'ALL

She also did all the covers for that era of FI records (Feathers & Hallways, Undressed EP, etc.), and she used to be in the band when they were Art Lord.

I think the more I listen to On the Water, the more I like it, the more I regret not getting it on 180g, and the more I'd put it in an end of the year top ten list.

i listen to other music that is overtly emotional and it does nothing to me

if anything this stuff should turn me off because it is so overt and i tend to like subtlety

this shit is special

The Thrill Jockey store has a few copies of the 180 gram LP for anyone who cares.

They also have cassette versions of On the Water and In Evening Air (limited to 300). Cassettes are $6 each (cheap).

I bought all three of these things. SCORE.

I needed to replace my Tears for Fears cassette tape in my car player.

The second worst hangover of my life was after a Future Islands Berkeley Cafe show. 2009, was it? Maybe '10? I dunno.
