I know this might sound crazy but I think that the algorithms for Pandora will not be as good as last.fm specifically for rap music. Pandora looks up music base don music, melody, whatever whatever, but that can be really bad for finding rap music that one would like. I think the community based approach is better for rap music, at least this is my theory and I will put this to the test.

is this stuff that will be available in mango?
4/13/2011 1:44:23 PM
^Yep. Developer tools for Mango will be out next month, which include a BUNCH of new developer capabilities. The emulator gets an additional tools pane to simulate the accelerometer and gestures, as well as location services.Memory and Performance profiling will be built into the Free Phone tools (this is HUGE, it's currently one of the main features of the $10k VS Ultimate)Silverlight 4 will be the Mango version

i'm really excited about the things i read so far about mango

I think VS's profiling tools are mountains better than Instruments, because #1 you're dealing with managed .NET code (for Windows Phone anyway) and as a result, profiling results can get you a LOT closer to the actual problem (they demoed being able to go from Profiling results directly to the offending code block). Also a lot easier to separate system from app calls than iOS.

installing NoDo on my Samsung Focus
4/19/2011 3:30:49 PM
dang...still "No update found" on mine.
4/19/2011 4:52:33 PM
did you check through the Zune software or just on the phone?my phone notification didn't appear until I already installed it only took like 8 minutes to install
4/19/2011 5:03:55 PM
update spotted
4/19/2011 5:46:26 PM
Update is waiting for me.Just need a few minutes to sit down and let that sweet sweet copy and pasting magic wash all over me.
4/19/2011 7:46:07 PM
i didn't think i would use cut/paste, but since the update i've used it at least a dozen times

NoDo came baked into my Arrive.WHAT

These will be the first great WP7 phones. Only they won't look like this because Nokia has been given permission to modify the look and feel of WP7.I want a W7 (on the left) NOW. It'll probably come out in the fall.|[Edited on April 20, 2011 at 1:10 AM. Reason : 2]

i really dont like that simple interface. i like having wholly customized appearance through widgets and stuff. JMO
4/20/2011 1:47:33 AM
NoDo's installed, but apparently none of the actual functionality comes until the next update. ^^, My Focus is pretty great.
4/20/2011 8:53:35 AM
^^i like it, but mango is going to give developers more access to live tiles and let live tiles link to specific parts of apps which i think will make it more "widget like." it will never be as customizable as android but i think a lot of people like the simple interface, i think its the most attractive interface available.
4/20/2011 9:03:22 AM
I love the interface. I have a focus btw

I'm 100% stoked to see nokia building hardware for WP7. I've always regarded their stuff as the pinnacle of phone design paired with ruggedness.
4/25/2011 3:57:19 PM
What this phone needs is a 'shelf' feature. Well they kinda already have one for games - just click the XBL tile and all of your games are located there and they are not making your overall app list any longer. you should be able to make custom 'shelves' for example if you make a science 'shelf' you can put your periodic table, chemistry reference, medical manual apps there in its own aggregated listed and only have one entry in your overall app list. Barnes and Noble added this feature to the Nook and it's pretty awesome.

yeah i saw that one, but it never worked well on my android so i'm hesitant to spend $10 to try it out on this phonehas anyone tried the police scanner app? there is no trial version so im hesitant to spend the money without knowing how well it works around here.

Krashlander is a pretty cool free game. Looks similar to Angry Birds (which I have only played once) but instead of a slingshot, you are controlling a downhill skier and the goal is to crash into targets.

HTC Trophy appeared on BestBuy's website so VZW launch seems imminent (supposedly announced 5/3, available 5/5).

not sure why they don't advertise this more heavily, but you can find or wipe your device remotely through windowsphone.live.com
5/1/2011 9:16:55 PM
I dunno. I have thought about the same thing. Anyone who is nerdy enough to buy a WP7 probably knows about it anyway.

i think windows phone is less nerdy than android

I want a way to turn off notifications for email after a certain hour, someone make that happen.
5/9/2011 10:51:32 PM
is there not a way to turn down the volume of the keypad when dialing a number? i don't really need the entire office hear me every time i dial a phone number.

but i need the main volume up so that i can hear my ringer and my alarm. currently i have to turn it down every time i dial, and then turn it back up after the call... which is terribly annoying. most other phones i've ever used had more than two volume groups, this phone could benefit from that.
5/20/2011 10:00:25 AM
turn off the play a sound for key press option? i assume you don't really need the entire office hearing you press keys at all[Edited on May 20, 2011 at 10:31 AM. Reason : .]

but i want the key press option for everything else. hell i want it for dialing too, just not loud enough for the office to hear. does microsoft lock down volume and notifications stuff or is it open to developers? because i really want something to automatically turn off email alerts between certain times and turn down the volume during dialing.also, so far the only thing i don't like about WP7 is finding people. My favorite feature about previous versions, and one of the reasons i put up with it despite everything else, was how when you just started pressing numbers it started narrowing down your contacts. now you have to go to people, and then hit search for the same thing. Or hold the windows key down for a second and say "call so and so". Works great for me.Wait, you're starting to type the number of a person whose number you already know and you want it to pull up a contact for that person? I'm sure that's not what you meant, right?^^LOL, it was genuine. I hadn't seen that feature because I don't care if other people hear me dialing.[Edited on May 20, 2011 at 3:27 PM. Reason : .]
5/20/2011 3:26:31 PM
no on old windows you just started pushing the number keys to spell their name and it narrowed down the contact list similar to how the search works (and it would include numbers to). the awesome part was that you didn't have to click into contacts and hit search, it just happened as soon as you started typing.
