Reese Havens. If he can ever stay healthy.
6/27/2010 1:44:55 AM
Impressive run through the AL.Swept the teams we are better than, took the series against teams that are challenging for first place and split with the supposed best team in baseball. Now back to the real business. Lots of important divisional games coming up and we're tied for first (losses).
6/27/2010 4:47:05 PM
So who is going to the bench for you guys when Beltran returns in a week or two? I assume Franceour and his 720 OPS. He played better in June, but holy God he was unbelievably bad in May (<600 OPS )
7/1/2010 10:51:40 PM
^^too bad we can't beat the basement of our own division
7/2/2010 9:22:58 AM
^^ Beltran won't be playing 7 days a week right off the bat so you'll see each one of the three (Frenchy, Pagan and Beltran) getting 4 starts a week likely in the two positions.Ideally, the outfield would be Bay, Beltran and Pagan in my mind because they are all more consistent than Francoeur.
7/2/2010 9:30:58 AM
They should do a straight platoon of Pagan and Francouer in right once Beltran gets back to playing every dayCareer splits are almost mirror imagesPagan vs RHP: .302/.360/.458Pagan vs LHP: .255/.296/.412 Francouer vs LHP: .302/.345/.485 Francouer vs RHP: .258/.298/.408 Of course, that probably makes too much sense and they'll fuck it up somehow
7/2/2010 9:37:05 AM
Who from the Mets do you think will be going to the All Star Game? Wright is a given, but what about Pelfrey? 3rd in wins with a damn good ERA...should definitely get to go IMO but he might not.
7/3/2010 1:09:37 AM
hey o k-rod
7/3/2010 7:48:38 PM
Beltran officially back first game after the AS break.ReyesPaganWrightBeltranDavisBayBarajasTejada/Cora/CastilloThat is an American League 1-6 and I really like Tejada in the 8 hole. Hopefully Castillo has a "setback" on his rehab as bad as that is to say.And congrats to Jose and David for making the AS team. DW absolutely deserves it and may very well be the MVP in the NL as of right now. Reyes probably is a stretch but given he missed nearly a full year and had ZERO spring training his last two months have been fantastic.[Edited on July 4, 2010 at 8:56 PM. Reason : x]
7/4/2010 8:55:44 PM
Pelfrey should be on that list over some of the other starters.
7/5/2010 5:48:06 PM
Wow, Pelfrey imploded after two bizarre calls... the 0-1 pitch to Stubbs was one of the most awful non-strike calls I've ever seen in my life. Knee high right down the middle. Ball 1.
7/5/2010 8:56:29 PM
You really like a guy who is hitting .217 with an OBP under .300?I'm not a Luis Castillo fan by any means, and I curse his name daily, but last year he got on base nearly 39 percent of the time. Because neither one will ever hit the ball out of Citi Field, their ability to get on base is really the sole indicator of their offensive worth, and Tejada isn't getting on nearly enough to be the superior option if and when Castillo gets healthy.
7/6/2010 10:09:56 AM
You're obviously right, Slave but I just don't like Castillo... and Tejada plays a much, much better second base at this point.Watching the game tonight and Johan looks so much sharper. Sitting at 91-92 instead of 88-89 and locating his change a lot better. Good signs for a guy who has ALWAYS been a second half pitcher.
7/6/2010 7:33:41 PM
lol JohanStill can't get any run supportOnly run of the night is his own solo homer[Edited on July 6, 2010 at 8:38 PM. Reason : present tense!!]
7/6/2010 8:35:14 PM
we needed a performance like this after k-rod and pelf both crumbled this week
7/6/2010 8:37:07 PM
Wow there is so much dead air on this Reds broadcastI usually wish announcers would shut up and talk less, but there are like 3 minute stretches hear with no dialogue
7/6/2010 9:15:50 PM
Oh, don't you worry about dead air tonight. The trio of death on ESPN tonight doing the Mets game. Chris Berman, Joe Morgan and Bobby Valentine. Might as well hire Rob Dibble and Hawk Harrelson and complete my absolute misery of a broadcast team.
7/7/2010 9:28:26 AM
Fortunately, we're in the Reds "market" (as well as the Braves, O's and Nationals) here in Charlotte, so I will once again get the FSN Ohio broadcast, if I'm able to see any broadcast at all

7/10/2010 5:49:27 PM
Johan salvaged the first half. It would have been crushing to go 6 out and fall behind Philly in the last week of a very good first half. Johan is a second half pitcher and still one of the Top Five in the game. Awesome finish to the first half for him and it came right when every one of the smartass Yankee loving New York sportswriters write him off...And amazingly, Jerry has made a good decision. Beltran will be in CF come Thursday and Angel Pagan will be our starting RF. Second half should be better than the first.[Edited on July 11, 2010 at 5:36 PM. Reason : x]
7/11/2010 5:35:57 PM
this has been a miserable week
7/18/2010 11:09:10 AM
I hope Johan murders you, K-Rod. You fucking piece of shit.
7/18/2010 6:48:43 PM
Horrible call on that 9th inning play at the plate. Dude was clearly safe. Mets got bailed out. Adam Laroche, I mean Ike Davis, continues to impress.
7/18/2010 10:08:36 PM
besides the fact that they are lefty and play first base...are there really any other valid comparisions between ike and ladouche?i mean if you're gonna troll, at least put forth the effort
7/18/2010 10:18:47 PM
^^ Did you miss the inexplicable foul ball call on the third out? Or the awful missed strike call on the AB that Ishikawa got the basehit? There were three horrible calls in that inning -- 2 that helped the Giants, 1 that helped the Mets. Each turned the inning from what it could have been, to what it was.
7/19/2010 7:38:02 AM
^^ If you do not see similarities between LaRoche and Davis then you are blind and have never watched either play. Similar stance, look, swing, swagger, defense, and so far similar offensize production. I'm in no way a LaRoche fan, but he has always been a .270 type hitter that got a lot of doubles and HRs and could drive in 80-90 runs a season. Basically that is what Davis is doing right now. Davis may become a better hitter as he gets older, but right now, he and LaRoche are very similar IMO.
7/19/2010 1:27:04 PM
I would say that's a pretty nice comparison but I think Ike is, at 23, what LaRoche is in his prime.Aside from one year in Atlanta, LaRoche was more of a 20-25 HR guy and Ike is already on pace for 27 over 162 games as a 23 year old rookie and I think as he develops he'll be a 30+ guy. His power off the bat is much different than LaRoche. When he hits one it goes a long, long way. The ball comes off his bat much like it does Ryan Howard (not comparing them as hitters because Ike will never have a .300 year). Also, he's a slicker defensive 1B...
7/19/2010 2:23:25 PM
Howard goes oppo for a lot of his homeruns too, which Davis doesn'tThis could very well be a product of home ballpark, since CBP is a bandbox and its nearly impossible for a lefty to hit it over the The Great Wall of Flushing
7/19/2010 2:29:00 PM
He has three or four opposite field doubles off the big wall at Citi Field already and a handful of warning track shots as well. All would be HRs in CBP.He is more of a pull hitter than Howard certainly but, like you said, at Citi you have to be since opposite field HRs are so rare. I was more talking about the kind of power though. His HRs aren't wall scrapers. They aren't even 10 rows back. They are all monsters...
7/19/2010 3:00:16 PM
Right, look at Howard's bombs this yearThe 4 under 400 feet to left field are all outs at Citi, and probably a few of the ones to left center. Now DavisNothing left of center...if he was on Philly, his 13 bombs would be closer to 20.[Edited on July 19, 2010 at 3:05 PM. Reason : x]
7/19/2010 3:04:59 PM
7/19/2010 3:14:27 PM
The comparison is validBut LaRoche is a terrible defensive first baseman
7/19/2010 3:17:14 PM

For the first time in over 13 months, we're whole. No major injuries to speak of. Tonight's lineup looks fucking fantastic.SS ReyesRF Pagan3B WrightCF Beltran1B DavisLF BayC Barajas2B CastilloP PelfreyWhat a beautiful sight. Time to win some damn games now.
7/19/2010 7:52:22 PM
fuck this team
7/19/2010 10:03:22 PM
Hey you guys think that dream lineup will get butt raped again tonight
7/20/2010 9:21:16 PM
At least you guys are only 3.5 out of the wild card
7/21/2010 12:43:39 PM
I don't really get it. I mean we SHOULD be better offensively. No reason not to be. It's just not clicking right now for whatever reason and it's getting close to danger time...[Edited on July 21, 2010 at 1:05 PM. Reason : and thx for the double post -- good looking out so we'd see it]
7/21/2010 1:04:53 PM
Pay me until 2035
7/21/2010 1:10:43 PM
7/23/2010 8:56:10 AM
The Mets offense right now reminds me of the Braves offense earlier this season. Everyone struggling at the same time, guys pressing to do too much, guys not working the starting pitcher enough so that he can go deep into the games, etc. Clearly this is a talented lineup.
7/23/2010 9:04:09 AM
offense came together tonight, wtg bay on awesome catch and great bases loaded hit.btw, no way castillo was out on the close call
7/24/2010 2:07:42 AM
So, yeah, Santana is 4-1 with a 0.76 ERA. 3 earned in 5 starts. Please to have some other starters win some games now. As wretched as we've been we're still only 4 out of the wild card and have tons of games left against second division teams...
7/24/2010 9:55:18 AM
just dont get your hopes up
7/24/2010 11:16:20 AM
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/the_deadbeat_doc_FPPVugtFwCEPHFkQ1VKxeOWhat a piece of fucking shit. I hope the Mets just induct Straw and not this asshole next week. Straw seems to be making a concerted effort to straighten himself out despite his many inner demons.Doc is just a cocksucker who never learns...
7/24/2010 5:00:59 PM
haha Mike Hessman to the rescue!http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/7502/hessman-coming-coaches-staying
7/26/2010 11:34:00 PM
For all the bitching all year long from Braves fans on here about how many home games the Mets have played, they have now played 7 games fewer at home than on the road. Gotta piece together a 5-1 homestand this week and pray they can get hot in Philly/Atlanta next week.We have so many games against Pittsburgh, Houston, Milwaukee, Chicago and Arizona left in August/September that if we can push back to 3-4 out of the wildcard by August 10th or so we still have a good chance.Anyway, great to see Beltran looking a bit better and at least exorcising a few demons with Wainwright last night...
7/28/2010 8:00:30 AM
7/28/2010 8:05:47 AM
The problem now is with Wright. When he was hot, the Mets were hot. He's looked miserable this past week and look what it has done to the team. I don't know if Beltran being back has anything to do with it, but there is for sure a difference in Wright.
