The one day of the year I actually have something planned and it affects my plans for the next week and this shit decides to happen. Looks like I will continue to pay for an empty new apartment as I highly doubt time warner or furniture delivery will take place on saturday as planned.

^^When should you not stock up on wine and steak?

*****ALERT*****From our guy this morning. Looks like...we might actually...get some accumulation? /
1/28/2010 8:52:55 AM
I'm still holding out hope it'll shift a bit North so we get more up in WV. It's looking like 4-8" up there total, but I'm sure that'll be locally higher on the mountain.I'd say it's pretty certain Greensboro gets nailed and Raleigh gets at least ice covered by a fair amount of snow...^ I think that is VERY overly optimistic, but we'll see.
1/28/2010 8:55:22 AM
Yeah, from what I have seen it looks like the northern part of Guilford County could see 8+ inches. I am down in the southeastern part of the county, and it looks like I could get 5-8". I can deal with the snow, I just hope the ice stays south. They are saying Asheboro could get an inch of ice, and that will no doubt kill the electricity down there for a couple days.[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 8:59 AM. Reason : a]

I havent looked around much but as of now what time are they thinking the wintry stuff will start tomorrow? Just trying to look into getting this shit taken care of before saturday now

^the evening commute is what i'm hearing (5p-6p)

The issues here are that model trends are continuing to get colder and colder. The freezing and ice situation has shifted much further south, with mainly a significant threat of sleet and snow in the Triangle area. The thermal profile is ridiculously out of norm...you never see one this conducive to a large amount (1-2") of sleet. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. The 2000 event began as a sleet event as well...and you saw how that evolved. But then again, this is a little different from that setup.
1/28/2010 9:10:25 AM
I love weather prediction. Wral says 6-10", abc 13 says 1-3" with ice. G105 weather says light rain for tomorrow night. I need to go become a meteorologist. That has to be the only job where you can basically tell everyone "I don't know what the hell is going to happen" and not be looking for a new job the next day.
1/28/2010 9:10:51 AM
Ah, the glorious 2000 event. My senior year of HS, out of school for 2 weeks in January -- but didn't have to make up any days at the end of the year cuz Graduation was already booked.

^^^If you're limiting yourself to TV mets, you'd be correct, sorta. Thankfully, they don't make up the majority.[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 9:22 AM. Reason : ]

I really don't see how WTVD and the local NBC-17 are both calling for wintry mix and maybe 1-3" based on ALL the models calling for roughly a foot.

Here is my latest accumulation forecast:[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 10:26 AM. Reason : .]

1/28/2010 10:56:21 AM
10" of snow on WRAL means we're going to end up getting 1" of freezing rain.
1/28/2010 11:05:16 AM
just once, when someone tells me i'm gonna get 10 inches, i'd really like to get 10 inches!!!!1

ain't no sorority houses on brent road...though now that I think about it, it was the Sigma Kappas that destroyed our functional 10' snow penis

I'm going to stop with the updates for sake of not getting people overly excited (even though I'm just reading and re-posting)... but it appears to be shifting slightly northward, which would mean less cold air in the Triangle. Take that for it's worth. The 9:00-10:00pm model updates should tell the whole story later today. I'll probably post again when those come out for the lazy who don't want to look at them.
1/28/2010 12:34:57 PM
it's fucking 60 degrees outside right nowi'm calling bullshit on the whole god damned storm
1/28/2010 12:35:49 PM

1/28/2010 12:37:06 PM
I'm gonna leave work early so I can lay out and work on my tan.
1/28/2010 12:41:37 PM

i'm saying with temps this high, the ground will warm up. and the warmer the ground is, the less likely the snow will be to stick.]
1/28/2010 12:43:15 PM
oh, you wait. you get this much snow in this time period, it's going to "stick."actually, would make it more difficult to travel with the refreezing of melting initial snow. going to be good times. Also, your soil temperatures are in the mid 30s. Not quite as warm as some would think.[Edited on January 28, 2010 at 12:47 PM. Reason : ]
1/28/2010 12:43:59 PM
oh, i'll wait.
1/28/2010 12:44:09 PM
ground temps are still only 36-39. six hours of air temps in the 60s arent going to change it that dramatically. still going to be plenty of chilling time before this gets here.
1/28/2010 12:48:21 PM

1/28/2010 1:03:03 PM
i dunno, 10 dollar bucks to the person who's rightif we get a dusting of snow and negligible ice -- I WINif we get a few inches of snow and/or significant ice -- YOU WIN]

1/28/2010 1:09:30 PM
