I must be getting old, I think the wheels look horrible, and besides it's an automatic!
5/6/2011 4:34:12 PM
but cheap
5/6/2011 5:08:56 PM
those rims would look good on the original lexus ls400.and that mode year 911 has an ugly mug.but none of that matters i guess... cuz it is a porsche
5/6/2011 6:30:46 PM
Tiptronic = no deal.
5/7/2011 12:40:34 AM
Wow the 996 turbo 6 speed weighs 88lbs more than my legacy So 2 more cylinders 1 more turbo and a beefy awd system = worth it996 is still dry sump right ?
5/7/2011 3:26:28 AM
Only the Turbo, GT3, and GT2 are dry sumps. All other 996 models have what Porsche calls an "integrated dry sump". The oil is still separated from the crank case in some way (I forget how), but there definitely isn't an external oil reservoir gathering oil via scavenge pump.

Top Gear drove the new 991 911 (unveiling in Sep at Frankfurt) back in Feb!Here are their impressions:http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/new-porsche-011-991-driven-review

porsche released a teaser video of a semi-camouflaged 991.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mSjtFcIk24some people noticed this in the video:
7/20/2011 8:29:42 PM
It's been said for months that the new 911 would have a 7 speed. Cool pic, but not new news. Sadly I don't think this is enough to offset the increased "softening up" of the 911
7/21/2011 8:34:03 AM
if the gears aren't spaced in a useful manner who cares how many it has. If my subaru 5 speed was as bullet proof as the six speed i'd never swap it out because the six speed ratios are too close to be useful. If you put a ppg 1-4 set in the 6 speed 4th and 5th are the same gear ratio. When i do put the six speed in i'd like to get one that was broken and put the legacy gt spec be ratios in it (much longer gearing could theoretically hit 200+ mph rather than the 160s/170s of the STI)all i'm saying is paddle shifting through 7 clicks isn't bad but rowing an extra gear... they better damned well make sure its worth it and not just another annoying gear.
7/21/2011 9:14:39 AM
I'm pretty sure 7th gear will be the highway cruising mileage gear. Also I'm kinda ticked off that they made the car longer, AGAIN and did away with the hand brake. Now it's got one of those gay electronic parking brakes
7/21/2011 9:16:17 AM
yeah but what's 6th?i guess I'm just worried that if one needs 7/8 gears in a car to make it fast the car probably has a peaky power band and you're going to be working damned hard to keep it there. I guess I'm just used to turbo cars where you have 3-4000 rpm of consistent power to work with
7/21/2011 12:19:47 PM
This will help the car get better fuel mileage. I'd say that's the main goal as we know the 911's flat 6 engine is not peaky.

it was on auto blog, of course OEP was gonna post it.he's like an autoblog proxy
7/22/2011 8:28:25 AM
I'm surprised he hasn't posted about the Lamborghini computer mouse!
7/22/2011 8:53:08 AM
eh mouses, laptops, pens, furniture, etc have come and gone by several automakers over the years.this is something an automaker has ventured into for the first time, so i found it unusual (and it is an unusual niche product in the first place anyway).
7/22/2011 7:00:45 PM
I'm not gonna lie. A 996 Turbo tempts me.
7/23/2011 12:14:11 AM
Oh cool more who gives a fuck
7/23/2011 1:05:23 AM
Leaked photos of brand new 2012 911 (internal code 991)Slightly larger than the 997, but lighter. I'm a fan of the looks!
8/18/2011 1:09:54 PM
Not 100% sure on the rear (taillights look strangely Aston-Martinish for some reason). Side is fantastic though. It's been a long time since I thought a plain 911 was really just a sexy car aesthetically. This one does it though.
8/18/2011 2:54:23 PM
How much lighter, link please! Kudos to Porsche for keeping the cars light. I suppose Corvette deserves credit here as well, those two and the Nissan 370z are practically the only cars I can think of getting lighter for newer models. I hope that catches on...Certainly becoming a more grown up car. I wish they'd make it smaller. :/
8/18/2011 3:03:53 PM
^^I agree on the Aston Martin comment. I've seen other people mention that online.^not too sure, maybe 80 lbs. But I wholeheartedly agree with you Ahmet, they need to STOP making it bigger! If people want a large Porsche coupe they should reboot the 928 and build it off the Panamera chassis.
8/18/2011 3:17:47 PM
is that rear roof line improved or just my imagination?
8/18/2011 7:02:43 PM
Wait, is this a hatchback? What's with the cutline 12-18" up the rear of the roof?
8/18/2011 7:44:54 PM
Here's a comparison;

8/19/2011 1:33:34 AM
^^is that a 996 turbo with the side vents photoshopped out?
8/19/2011 10:08:22 AM
I would guess 996 C4S.
8/19/2011 10:17:41 AM
HE LIVES!1It's indeed a Carrera 4S, you know, exactly like the one I had. :'(
8/19/2011 10:22:35 AM
^^^nevermind the whale tail is also missing, with the intercoolers it covers.
8/19/2011 11:19:44 AM
991 lops 13 seconds off of the nurburgring time of the 997... now as fast as the 997 GT3
9/21/2011 9:04:37 PM
9/21/2011 9:14:33 PM
I'm all for car porn.
9/21/2011 9:21:36 PM
Good point. But even on the newer turbos the spoiler is still fixed so my point kinda stands
9/21/2011 10:56:35 PM
This is a 997, but the placement of the intercooler is identical to the 996. Notice that the fender opening is the inlet for the charge cooling air and the bumper slots are the outlet. The engine air intake is through the engine lid.
9/22/2011 2:51:36 AM
I find it incredible how tight and efficient space is utilized in these cars... Well done Porsche.
9/22/2011 7:39:17 AM
^^cool pic, but I'm not sure what point you're making by posting that?[Edited on September 22, 2011 at 8:56 AM. Reason : what i was implying in my previous post is that the spoiler is permanently fixed on turbos]
9/22/2011 8:55:40 AM

You said:
9/22/2011 12:10:47 PM
and in my previous comment I wasn't disagreeing. I said my point was partially correct. Any fool would realize the "part" i was talking about was the FIXED tail/wing. [Edited on September 22, 2011 at 12:38 PM. Reason : also, did you not read my edit comment?]
9/22/2011 12:38:38 PM
TKE;
9/22/2011 3:10:50 PM
Jesus Christ people, we're splitting hairs here but...it's pretty clear I already conceded to Ahmet's point. But that has nothing to do with the fact that a turbo has a large FIXED wing on the back.
9/22/2011 3:34:54 PM
It looks more like a Whale Tail spoiler than a "wing" buddy [Edited on September 22, 2011 at 5:33 PM. Reason : more love, less homo.]
