^^and with that, I both agree, and hate that you're probably right.^I guess I was just hoping for a little bit of an explanation. Hell, you're probably right too, that will most likely be all we get. "They're where they are supposed to be. " What a cop-out.[Edited on February 2, 2010 at 11:49 PM. Reason : science schmience]

also, nuclear bombs emit an emp, which could have triggered the time jump? maybe?

I think I remember seeing some promotional thing about Hurley going to Australia for a Chicken recipe or something to do with his restaurant. Or maybe I'm just completely making that up.

Ah, possiblyStrange that some people were so different (Locke, Hurley) and some seemed the exact same (Kate, Charlie, Jack)[Edited on February 2, 2010 at 11:57 PM. Reason : Bizarro Charlie also said he was supposed to die, I think]

does anyone know what Juliette said when she was uncovered from the rubble and was still sort of out of it, right before she asked Sawyer to kiss her, sounded something like "we should get some coffee" or something like that, maybe she was experiencing both timelines at once.
2/3/2010 12:04:07 AM
So along the lines of the whole desmond/alternate timelines/constant theory - Jack is the only person that we know of (besides Libby but she's not a main character) that met Desmond before he got on the plane. Maybe that explains why Jack was the only one to interact with him on the plane? Only one that can see him perhaps?

Next week's episode: "What Kate Does" (that's not a fucking spoiler)Obvious play on "What Kate Did", but I hope it's not hinting towards spending a lot of time on the alternate timeline[Edited on February 3, 2010 at 12:13 AM. Reason : ]
2/3/2010 12:13:23 AM
i think we'll see a lot of the "alternate time line", it will essentially be the new flashback/flashforward as someone mentioned.
2/3/2010 12:16:12 AM
ah, i was wondering about this line

holy shit ernie at least put the disclaimer BEFORE the spoiler and not after jeeze. Also, it was very pleasant watching the start of the show tonight when juliet was alive with knowledge that she was certainly going to die floating around in the back of my head. thanks ratsoup. Great show tonight. Full of answers. I knew this guy was the smoke monster. I wonder what "nice to see you richard without the chains" was a reference to. can't wait to find out. He's a security system for the island? I wonder if they'll stick with that and ultimately tell us how he came about.I would love a full history lesson on the island and its egyptian roots. What is special about Sayid? I wonder what role jack's dad will play. I'm thinking non-crash jack will meet up with his dad and get informed. first it was flashbacksthen it was flashforwardsnow its flash across

^i'm leaning that way too. Since MiB retained all of Locke's memories then it's very possible the same will happen with Jacob and Sayid and everyone will think it's just Sayid back from the dead until a Jacob/MiB showdown.
2/3/2010 8:22:46 AM
I still think Locke went on the walk about...and I still think Shannon was not on the plane. Think about what Boone said to locke:I can't find the exact quote but he says, "I was in australia trying to save my sister from a horrible relationship....see how that worked out"meaning she did not get on the plane with him...also, notice how desmond disappears AFTER he saves charlie.. that is not coincidence IMO
2/3/2010 8:27:52 AM
No one said Shannon was on the plane
2/3/2010 8:30:29 AM
I understand that, but someone earlier said the writers just didn't show her b/c she had a disagreement and couldn't be on the plane.if that were the case, they could have come up with a better like for boone, ie. she is in the bathroom being sick...
2/3/2010 8:32:57 AM
so apparently ash keeps the smoke monster away from you.at the beginning when they were carrying locke's body to jacob's hut the bigger guy told everyone to look at the ash. it had been broken.when the same guy confronted "locke" beneath the statue he spread what i'm assuming is ash around him on the floor. the smoke monster couldn't get to him until was knocked out of the circle by the falling boulders.at the end when the people at the temple thought the smoke monster was coming because jacob was dead they surrounded the fort in what looked like the same substance.
2/3/2010 8:47:07 AM
So apparently Jack is a doctor

Ok so I haven't read the thread, but my friend last night brought up an interesting pointSo I'm sorry if this has already been statedThat statue looks like the Egyptian god for fertility... Do you think its destruction is what caused the women to not be able to have children on the island? Also, sorry if anyone said this as well.. I think Sayid is really Jacob coming back to battle Fake(Smoke)Locke! Yay for Sayid staying on the show Oh, and I, too, was confused by Hurley being the luckiest guy...[Edited on February 3, 2010 at 9:45 AM. Reason : .]

man, last night was rough. My wife (who hasnt watched the show since season 1 or 2) sat in the bedroom and watched the 2nd episode with me last night. She didnt know what the hell was going on, and I guess I kinda watched the show from her perspective a little bit and realized just how crazy this shit has gotten.I love the show, and I think last night laid the groundwork for what is to come this season. I have a feeling that throughout the season we're going to see/hear things that will make us all go back and re-watch the first episode again and have an "ohhh" momentwith that said, I thought the two episodes last night were pretty weak, and once again created wayyy more questions than answers. oh well
2/3/2010 9:42:23 AM
Why does everybody say Sol Star?Yeah, I watched Deadwood too, but now and hence forth, I call him Kenny Powers' brother

A few things.its definitely an alternate timeline and that is why hurley considers himself the luckiest guy in the world. this line was intended to be the big clue. IIRC hurley was in Australia to film commercials for his mr. cluck franchise or whatever.desmond was definitely there. jack recognized him from the stairs and that is that. he was never stuck on the island and as such could be on the plane.the destruction of the fertility statue did not stop the people from having babies on the island. i used to think this too, but eloise is doing just fine and the statue is destroyed in 1977 as well. Ethan was born post statue destruction. i believe the hydrogen bomb going off has more to do with it.overall i thought the episode was mediocre. there have definitely been better ones. we did get some good information but the substance just seemed thrown together. whats worse is we'll have a four week break for the olympics.
